@pancakewarriors7233 good but not great as the story was too underwhelming hopefully they fix that in 4 and actually write some good characters and an enjoyable plot.
solid take man. I got hyped like you at the start, but then when you went on to say that they may be biting more then they can chew, it made me realise that could also be true. Going to be interesting, regardless, i'm hyped!
I wouldn't mind if we had one big map per planet. Maybe instead of loading screens, we could drive through a canyon or a tunnel to a new environment on the planet. I just dont one big cicle with check points to mark off, e.g endan 6. I want a mixture of corridors fights and open areas
The most seamless game I've played that's similar-ish to Borderlands is Cyberpunk 2077, there are almost no loading screens at all and you can play all day without seeing one
If it is an MMO light, like Diablo 4, then I think this could be VERY cool. Diablo's portals can transport you both ways, and farming bosses is easily done. I would love this for B4 (or even the usual fps single player as usual). I'm excited for this!!
If bl4 is open world I don’t want it to be MMO that’s one thing borderlands needs to avoid imo I’m open to anything they add back into game pearls would be nice just for that omg factor when it drops.
I think the seamless hint might be the fact BL4 might be trying to leverage the fact that both current gen consoles have SSDs which allow for some really quick ass load times (when companies utilise em) I know BL3 had somewhat artificial load times on current gen cos they’re all 10-12s long probably for the splash screen and tips
I think the way you could incorporate the seamless open world with the visiting of different planets is pretty easy. Well, kinda easy. It’d be a lot of programming and coding but they could have each planet be their own open world area
I think 1 big open world is unlikely because gearbox will probably want to visit multiple planets again esp if we finally get the big (corpo) war they've been teasing for a while.
Elden Ring was the first thing that came to my mind. Random Gearbox intern: Holy moly! Elden Ring just dramatically shook up it's formula and sold 25 million copies......bruh Randy Pitchford: Eh that's no big deal. We could do that noooo problem Intern: Mr Pitchford.......bruh RP : You know what, I'll even raise em a live action movie! Hold my medieval times fake beer! Intern: Bruh.......nuuuuhhhhh
Honestly, it would be really cool to have an open world BL game, especially after the terrible optimization for older gen consoles, but its kinda of a "we wont know till we try" kinda thing. I'm optimistic for BL4, mostly because of the fixes they made on BL3 that made one of my favorite games ever.
I am so burnt out on open worlds in recent years, I just want Borderlands 4 to have strong art direction with unique looking areas like Borderlands 2 and TPS had. Borerlands 3's different planets were all very different but they always looked so samey in a vacuum and I think doing that in an open world would only make everything mix together in a bad way. Borderlands 2 took place all on Pandora and it had the most varied locales in the entire franchise, yknow?
I think his point was that there was a brief half second delay between the menu and being in game. You *might* be able to extrapolate that they are trying for even faster, literally "seamless" loading in the next game thanks to improvements in PC hardware.
Its like elden ring areas. I saw an early build. Dungeons can and do open up into large areas like a typical zone in borderlands 2 or BL3. Basically, its like Elden Ring.
Honestly ive been saying since march that 4 would most likely be an elden ring breath,of the wild style open world game lol. it sorta makes sense for a way to evolve the series lol
thats how it was for borderlands 2 and 3 to me, apart from spamming the dialogue button trying to skip past all the nonsensical sequences it got to the point where every single playthrough the go to strategy was just level up to TVHM, get the bee shield and then farm the captain scarlet DLC for the sandhawk. thats it, once you got those 2 it made every single boss in the game super easy. if there was some gradual exploration scaling added to bl4 where different items would spawn around different enemies at different times in the game, so not to just have hours of mindless farming just to go back and do it when your max level. giving us an incentive to actually go out and LOOK for loot. not just google "best borderlands legendaries" or get the grog nozzle and call it a day xD
i am mostly keeping out of the loop of most bl4 content, this subject was an exception because it would potentially be huge. I'm here for whatever they choose. I just got back into the game after a few years, and this time I have my son tagging along on his own computer.
As a console player that loves borderlands, farming is hell. Tiny tinas portal system was a big change and actually allowed me to farm in a fun way. BL4 with open map would be great but im not sure if the story would allow it because we need to be able to move through planets or vaults. Maybe the system seen in ratchet and clank could work where you teleport between places as a given mechanic for all characters
You know K6 you have been a content creator for a long time. Ive been playing since 2011. I went to UA-cam because I had no clue what I was doing . Watched guys like you ,Yotes,Jolts,Mak. You all had influence on the Game. There are things that need fixed things that need to be said before BL4 comes out. They have obviously forgotten who we are. For all of us kick down the door and make Them hear us all .
I really hope it's not... Open world to me just means big and empty in 90% of the games. I like the more linear mission areas we currently have now. If they do it well then I'm all for it, but any new game that comes out saying it's open world really sets off alarms in my brain unless it's from a studio known for good open worlds. Afaik, GB isn't one of those studios.
@@Ki11ersix Oh for sure, though I feel like having the separation between maps helps hide some of those big empty areas. I think if they did more areas like Eden 6 where it was a huge hub map with different linear locations attached it would be a good move. (I was actually listening to that part of the video when I was writing the comment haha, I still figured I’d give my two cents) Love the content btw, very excited for bl4 😎
I feel like he means no loading between zones. Maybe a cutscene the first time you go through a "gateway" but you could go from Covenant Pass to The Droughts to Ascension Bluff or Devil's Razor. Each planet would be one huge map broken into smaller sections, but you would only see the map for the area you are in. You are in the Droughts, that's the map that opens, but when you drive into Devil's Razor, that map opens, but you can have the ability to tab between maps to see where you want/need to go. The biggest challenge for them would be to make sure the maps line up and make sense now.
At this point the version of UR engine they choose to use should have very good loading in the background/"streaming" so they should be easily be able to have way less "click to load" areas; but with all the particles and visual noise, gearbox loves to cover your screen in, I'd be worried about memory issues and bugs (the number of times I have seen "Oakgame has crash" is too high). I have faith that shooting will be great, but I'd be worried if gearbox tried too many open world game design mechanics. BL4 just has to have a passable story so farming X for Y 100 times isn't like nails on a chalkboard.
I feel like it could work like the first descendant. Maybe it's open world but maybe it'll be open area with seamless loading like the first descendant where you phase into missions with other people on the land. There are many ideas they can approve upon
I would like a video of the new V.H.'s like your thoughts on what they would have as abilities. Would we get another gun based turret skill but instead they are mini tanks, will they're be another playable siren, will we get someone like Aurelia, or I don't know someone who turns into a creature? I'd love to know your thoughts and ideas.
Hm honestly I thought Randy's just commenting on the fact that the BL2 clip still has a flash of a loading screen. It is a very fast load for sure, but not entirely "seamless". It's not like you click "Continue" and the camera pans behind Axton and boom we're in the game with no transition. I mean I hope I eat my words and this was a 6head hint to BL4 but I really feel like people are reading *way* too much into this :D
They could potentially pull a Classic Gta move where parts of the map are locked off until you get to a specific point of the game, then a whole new Area unlocks, with the Classic progression being -Complete Story Mission to Unlock new SQs -Play SQs and defeat the Boss in them or Unlock extensions to the new unlocked Location for potential Chests to get better Loot -Have Raid Boss Arena's be visible but not Enterable until the SQ shows up Also if they did this Open World thing and had Areas that had nothing in them, that is Available Real-estate for future DLC content, like Survivals, Raid Bosses, Mob Areas for chests at the end of them all, and even new Side Quests to unlock more Arenas, or get great weapons, and they could even bring back weapons from the Early games like the Harrold or Wave Gun for Side Quest rewards or Raid Boss Loot Pools. If gone open world, BL4 could be the quintessential Borderlands game, combining everything from the old games with the new things. Also if Open world, make the OG Vault Hunters from Bl1-BL3 Available to play, as to make Big Lobbies feel more Diverse and Chaotic in the potentially MASSIVE Raid Bosses.
How awesome would it be if BL4’s farming system was equivalent to BL3’s Scraptrap nest? Kill Boss-leave area- come back- respawn. Rinse and repeat until too much gear on the ground causes your game to crash. Pretty Awesome!
open world seems like the logical evolution given that they also said they would heavily focus on this new planet in the teaser trailer. It certainly is much harder than designing individual levels and stringing them together with a loading screen. 😅
I personally really dislike the huge open world maps (one reason is the "large swaths of nothing" -types of areas you mentioned) so if they decide to go with the seamless map idea, I hope it is more Dark Souls 1 and less Elden Ring/Breath of The Wild when it comes to interconnectivity with the areas! I like my pseudo-linearity!
Yes. One thing that I actually hate about something like Fallout is that you can go anywhere and do almost everything without once moving the story forward. I like the pseudo linearity of Borderlands or Metro Exodus or Horizon where each area had enough stuff to do but you have to continue the main story to move to the next area.
I would personally love an open world Borderlands. But at the same time with it being a Looter Shooter how would you farm for weapons. I’m sure they could figure it out. Would probably just have to have like a “waypoint” to select beside the spot you’re trying to farm. Anyway looking forward to Borderlands 4 none the less… just bought Borderlands the Pandora’s box edition because I’ve played everything else on PlayStation 4 (which I don’t have anymore, have PC and Xbox now). Might just stick to just playing 3 until 4 comes out but also might go back and play the others. So if anyone wants to do a new playthough or first time playing, hit me up lmao. More people the better. I’ll be playing as Fl4k just a heads up.
Different doesn’t always equate to good…. At least in the eyes of the player base. You said it, 20 years in. Dudes def have expectations. If you change it, cool but it better not be a Bethesda or vanilla bl3 experience with being half cooked or there’s gonna be proverbial pitch forks and torches everywhere lol
I poersonnaly think that the different areas, with loading screens, are a part of the charm in Borderlands. Makes them feel unique. I prefer a more polished areas than a big bland open world. I also think that more open areas could lead to performance issues. And i want Borderlands 4 to run smooth.
it would be nice, a good social hub with lots of people would be cool as well. i would prefer the only loading screen to be the log in screen. i would also like to see them do 4 active skills at a time 3 small ones and one ultimate, so similar to wayfinder or the first descendent.
After BL2 i actually expected a Destiny style game. Large open areas, MMO style (no i dont want this, I just had a fear of it). I'm wondering if Randy is just referencing next gen fast loading and a game made for newer hardware ala Wonderlands like you pointed out.
I think it would be cool if they did something like they do in the new god of war games. What if with having an open world type game, you still keep everything slightly connected, writhing a drive distance, but have it be a claptrap or something if whatever planet your on be like “ hold on clearing access for player” and while they are clearing it, the new part of the world is spawning in
I am good with the Open World concept. I would rather have a third-person camera toggle option and more mobility options for our characters. And more Takedowns!!!! :)
I think an open world BL4 would be great, its finally something different (but not too different), and it gets rid of the "useless maps" issues of the previous games
I just want borderlands 4 to have the great war we were promised. The calypsos fell short of being any kind of challenge. Hordes of psychos is fun all, but we only got to fight one other corporate enemy. the guardians were in my opinion really lacking in story as well. Where is our war. i want it to play a campaign where choices actually matter and for my character to be in cutscenes.
If you want an open-world game structure for BL4 I'd recommend looking at Elden Ring. There's a ton you can do in that game before taking on any of the real bosses. There are also boss enemies in that game that can only spawn at night and special areas that can only be accessed with stone sword keys. All in all, I'd like to see the world(s) have more than one environment this time so they feel alive and real.
Yeah but the only problem with elden ring is it doesn't have seamless coop so its just a boring single player game... Add seamless coop in elden ring and me and my friend would have never stopped playing it.
Every time you bring in a summon to help with a boss the health scales in Elden Ring. They could do that but for the whole game based on your team size, like they did in BL2. It shouldn't be an issue to take the basic concepts of Elden Ring and translate them into a Borderlands game.
I agree, hopefully they take a piece of whats good out of each of the past games into this one. I still get those crashes on my ps4, sucks i gotta upgrade to a ps5 to play bl4 but itll be be worth it if everything is good especially if they make a special edition bl4 ps5 console that'll b tits
Sounds amazing as long as they don't have to compromise on the core pillars of Borderlands. I dont want another BL3 situation where they have to cut things like pearls because they were to ambitious in adding new things. As long as they can keep the soul of BL in tact im all for an open world game.
I’ll be honest. I think being an open world would hinder level design. There’s already lots of content packed in these levels, the closest thing to an open world id ever want is just more levels. I’d rather have a more dynamic world than an open one. They should add things like rare-spawn events (I.E a side quest that can only be obtained from witnessing a rare encounter. Etc)
Cant wait for it to be a open world mmo rpg looter shooter with path of exile skill strees with 30 player raid bosses for a dedicated 0.001% drop pearl which is needed to enter endgame
My thought it that there will be instant fast travel through portals. Like what we saw it Ratchet N Clank Rift Apart. With the game on new consoles would be a possibility
Randy Pitchford out here trying to order food while everyone having Borderlands conspiracy theories Seriously though, do Borderlands gamers really want to spend hours waiting for a boss to pop out on maps if it is randomized and you need to go click on wanted posters to start the chance of a boss showing up...
the bl1 enhanced memory leak on PC never impacted me in any way and I dont even have a top tier PC, I would play for 2-3 hours straight and not notice any performance dips. Dont really know what the fuss about that is about.
Honestly, I hope not. Making the gameworld open world, let's say with 1 gigantic map per planet, would cause the maps to be truly HUMONGOUS just to not make it feel like everything is cramped together in a tiny area. The result of that is that we're going to be doing a LOT of driving which is one of the big downsides of BL1 (and 3, with the driving maps). After completing the story we would probably be able to fasttravel to multiple points in the same map like in Wonderlands, but the initial travel would probably suck.
Open world wouldn’t be the worst thing. Given how random the past games have been with spawns and items, I think it may suit borderlands really well, but it’ll need to be massive… like bigger than what anyone is currently envisioning in terms of size lol
Personally I don't care either way if it's level-based or openworld. I almost want BL4 to be server-based (privately hosted) so that buddies and I can be farming different items in different zones while playing together.
Idk about my fellow borderlands players, but I'm still wanting and answer to why they put that obelisk in the pre sequel 😱 we haven't had anything like it since... To my knowledge.. maybe we get to revisit it in BL4 🤔
I really do hope that GearBox will at least fix some issues that keep players away from bl3 and wonderlands. They have potential for wonderlands, all they have to do is fix a few things that make it suck. Bl3 is already amazing and that's because of all the fixing that they did with the game.
As long as the game is good. EDIT: Well come to think of it, besides open world there's 3 other things I would want to see. The 1st seeing the Grinder from Pre-Sequel make a return. The second is Dahl being the antagonist corporation like Atlas and Hyperion. And the third is being able to make your own characters but also having previous Vault Hunter classes to select from, similar to the Tiny Tina spin off game.
I would just be worried about performance… if the bosses can just respawn and you have a milk going and there is a bunch of loot on the ground, it might get bad
borderlands has always been somewhat open world, so I wouldn't be surprised if they just make one massive map with a ton of biomes. Weapon farming and parts, and legendaries as a whole needs a big overhaul in my opinion, dedicated farming is a bad system
hope it has fixed enemy levels if it’s open world at least, but open world as far as i can tell would really, really not mesh well with gearbox’s strengths
I’ve always hated the farming / reload of items. It’s cheese & makes the game too easy. Too many weapons. Too much money. No gun is actually worth keeping. It sucks. Open world, one time loot would be a game changer.
Xenoblade chronicles has a system in which once you beat a named enemy, they have a gravestone you can interact with that respawns the enemy so you can beat it over and over. Something like that in BL4 would be cool.
I was about to say something like that, a huge open map with Respawnables named enemies, fully explorable with no map towers and a LOT of RPG, I hope seamless loading and respawning comes to bl4
The games are already open world, restricting everything to one big map is just a way to cheap out on respecting/paying the map design team(s) (who've only gotten better every game)
All i care about is that the game is good
Same

3 is good, the story isn’t but they fixed every issue they have with BL 1 and 2 and more amazing features. Gameplay and the guns
@pancakewarriors7233 good but not great as the story was too underwhelming hopefully they fix that in 4 and actually write some good characters and an enjoyable plot.
i played early it’s better than 3
That would be so weird I think the different levels and stuff gives it character
As a story enjoyer I hope that if the game's open world that means more sidequest chains and hidden lore for the player to discover.
Open world would be interesting, but would that mean we would be on just this new planet the whole time? What about Elpis, or just other planets
I think they will still have other planets, maybe several different very large maps that fit the planets

Do we know when we'll be hearing anything about BL4 again??? Anything at all?
Nope
Isn’t it technically open world already, you can pretty much go wherever you want
The open world concept makes me nervous 😬
After BL2 i actually expected a Destiny style game. Large open areas, MMO style (no i dont want this, I just had a fear of it). I'm wondering if Randy is just referencing next gen fast loading and a game made for newer hardware ala Wonderlands like you pointed out.
probably just means no loading screens since the game isn't launching on old gen
I think it would be cool if they did something like they do in the new god of war games. What if with having an open world type game, you still keep everything slightly connected, writhing a drive distance, but have it be a claptrap or something if whatever planet your on be like “ hold on clearing access for player” and while they are clearing it, the new part of the world is spawning in
I dont really know how this would work tbh-
Maybe further out areas of the map are higher level than the closer areas?
Why not both?
I mean 3 is actually open world kinda..
they let us explore more than first and second game.
@@subzero308I wouldn’t say Elden Ring is a seamless boring game lmao 🤣
Bl4 needs to just have a story better than 3 and really good gameplay
Don’t need to change too much borderlands is already awesome
Time will tell, can’t wait 😜
I’ll be honest. I think being an open world would hinder level design. There’s already lots of content packed in these levels, the closest thing to an open world id ever want is just more levels.
I’d rather have a more dynamic world than an open one. They should add things like rare-spawn events (I.E a side quest that can only be obtained from witnessing a rare encounter. Etc)
2025 is loaded for gaming
An open world borderlands would be so cool
we might be seeing a acttual overworl map like in wonderlands but not as a sperate screen.
Randy Pitchford out here trying to order food while everyone having Borderlands conspiracy theories
Seriously though, do Borderlands gamers really want to spend hours waiting for a boss to pop out on maps if it is randomized and you need to go click on wanted posters to start the chance of a boss showing up...
It could be done , pretty similarly to no man’s sky
Multiple planets and use the “space travel “ as a loading time
Should be better than the movie at least
Open world would be cool if done right
I thought all Borderlands were open world, its just the there are multiple maps with load screens
the bl1 enhanced memory leak on PC never impacted me in any way and I dont even have a top tier PC, I would play for 2-3 hours straight and not notice any performance dips.
Good god I hope not.
I really do hope that GearBox will at least fix some issues that keep players away from bl3 and wonderlands. They have potential for wonderlands, all they have to do is fix a few things that make it suck. Bl3 is already amazing and that's because of all the fixing that they did with the game.
3:01 #roasted😮
As long as the game is good.
EDIT:
Well come to think of it, besides open world there's 3 other things I would want to see.
The 1st seeing the Grinder from Pre-Sequel make a return. The second is Dahl being the antagonist corporation like Atlas and Hyperion. And the third is being able to make your own characters but also having previous Vault Hunter classes to select from, similar to the Tiny Tina spin off game.
Agreed
i still got that map ^^
I would just be worried about performance… if the bosses can just respawn and you have a milk going and there is a bunch of loot on the ground, it might get bad
Not really, look at the Scraptrap farm in 3 right now..... you can gain like 20 levels before you need to think about save quitting to clear the area.
All i really care about is great vault hunters and great gameplay
borderlands has always been somewhat open world, so I wouldn't be surprised if they just make one massive map with a ton of biomes.
Open world would be finally a step in the right direction…but it needs to be done perfectly. Enough benchmarks out there…
The games are already open world, restricting everything to one big map is just a way to cheap out on respecting/paying the map design team(s) (who've only gotten better every game)
I hope they take the games on GeForce now ...
wait, they added pearlecent and pink drop?
I’m using mods. See description or my recent Overhaul Zane playthrough
add or swap TTWL itemization for the story (as long as the story is better then BL3, i'm good)
