DOH theres a mistake in this video, a piece of another video which isnt meantg to be there, but I decided to leave it in because its so random and gives you a tease of the next video to come. Doh.
Nothing wrong with that mate , superb video I didn't realise that one had more to it although in bad shape . Well done to all for all your efforts really looking forward to the next one 👍👍👍👍
The armored box on wheels is to barricade the door, it is [was] filled with sand & weighs 34 Tons [imperial], hydraulic power was also added to move the armoured box to shut the door, traverse/elevate the guns & operate the shell & cartridge lifts. Around 1904 new 6" guns were fitted to the roof of Horse Sands & No Mans Land, the first lift may be for these. Rusty features 19:30 were fixed to the wall of victorian barracks above each soldiers bed to hold his kit, the hearth & flue were probanly for a free standing iron stove. Top of stairs, soot doors for putting sweeps brushes in to clean chimneys. 30:30 battery observation post containing range finder & the position finder. The recess with the pillar below contained another range finder. 1:03:27 these held the mantlets, heavy rope woven into a mat, these prevented rivets & shrapnel from the armour hitting the gun crew if the outside was hit by a shell, mantlets were thick enough to stop a Martini Henry bullet. 1:19:00 In 1886-7 the bolt passage around the outside wall was filled with sand & the outer ring of magazines with concrete to improve protection for the magazines
Had a shiver when you read out that stone chance metal label , my dad used to work for that company in crawley sussex , they made lighthouse stuff and boilers for the navy ships that turned salt water into drinking water , was originally called stone platt. 👍👍👍
Wow Matt, you must be the craziest explorer on UA-cam, but that’s why we all love you to bits!!! Amazing video, your presentation just brings it all to life, you are an absolute legend. Can’t wait to see the next one in the series, take care, Paul.
Thank you for bringing us this amazing content, coming from someone who loves the adventure and the style you film it truly makes me feel that I'm right there.
These are great explorations all the time. I always enjoy to watch the videos. I like to get informed about the historical background too. Thank you for sharing these great videos.... please never stop with your explorations Matthew.
Two of my mates worked on the one closet to ryde about 15years ago ,,,I had the opportunity to go and see the fort which I and another freind came with me was amazed at the sheer structure massive thick walls
I have sailed around these forts and seen the outside growing up. Great to see the insides, a completely different perspective on these magnificent structures.
It looks like the big metal box on wheels was for securing that main entrance by blocking the hole, those tracks in the floor look like they lead up to it. The large screws are for fixing that thick armored plate.
I think you will find those chimney holes are blast vents from the cartridge and shell rooms / handling areas. In case of an accidental explosion they would vent the blast to the outside instead of blowing the fort to bits. Just an educated guess.
I just can't get over how cool that place is, you do have the life though brother. I know you put in a lot of time and work to make all these awesome videos, it is definitely well worth it though brother. You enjoy it just as much as I enjoy watching them, that place was amazing thank you brother.
Brilliant, Just bloody brilliant, really enjoyed this explore, and a massive well done to kayleigh for retrieving the boat at the end, (braver than i am thats for sure), she also earned another subscriber for her efforts =)
Great video content! New subscriber! Those skies are completely pasted geo-engineering (chemtrails) . The technology to build such a thing is incredible! Much appreciated from upstate NY!
Adams still making good vids. So we've got the footage so you didn't die. Thats good. Downstairs, You called them bomb disposal helmets. they are for sand blasting and will have a clean air feed into them from the compressor. Thats why they are so solid. Awesome vid yet again. Ive subbed to Kayleigh too
Love to buy it and develop it into a hotel....BUT keep as much original history as possible. Restore into theme rooms as relevant eras representing its history from 1865 to WW2. People staying could dress as their chosen era and status ! The large item at the start was and armoured "Plug" for the fort entrance. Front part with screws would be armoured plate and the rear full of ballast. The "blue thing" is MDPE pipe for water from the well. If you noticed one of the toilets on that level was connected for use. Sand all piled up near entrance and the "bomb suits" are because lots of sandblasting has been going on .......hence plastic in doorways. Those two chutes are L for shells and R for charge bags. "Wobble" racks are for the charge bags. (more charge bags for farther distance) Hand winding used as electric could cause sparks in magazine rooms. The magazines are well below so protected and numbers reference the guns above.. The hollow walls are prob blast walls and sand left over from sand blasting ?
I got here in last 5minutes of premiere... That big block on rails at start would have been used as a door when Fort was under attack.... Dunno whats going on with audio, Im only a 20-ish minutes in & I keep hearing faint 'noise' in the recording- other equipment or something else glad to have visitors??? Now 30-odd minutes in & Im going to have to pause for a bit & watch later- unless I go sitting up all night again! ;v Thank you again Matt & crew- I love Palmerston Seaforts!
Great stuff!! I've stayed at the no man's land hotel fort. Great to see how it would have probably looked before they done it up by seeing the abandoned ones
Have to say, because I was watching through the lens, a few times I was expecting to fall through the floor, but on a wild suggestion, could the mask thing you see, do you think it could be a sand blasting breather and as the sand was fine with in the out skin, could they be possibly filling the outer gap with sand for a added protection? just a thought.
TheSecretVault , West brom central radio club used to have one on a trailer but it was sold on when we disbanded 8 years ago, we have a Sandwell Raynet Group but I left 5 years ago...too political, but we all have 4 skeds a week on air, by the way Matt cracking video , that young lady was pretty brave, I think Ill subscribe to her channel
If those were the chimney exits at the top of the spiral they may have been located there to be sheltered from the adverse conditions at sea. A conventional chimney pot exit would get wind down it all winter long. Just a thought. Does seem strange though.
Brilliant mate. Who needs regular tv when stuff like this is on youtube. Well done to Kayleigh. Wonder how cold the water was? Would it not be worth wearing a wet suit underneath your clothes in case for next time?
There is something called Illegal entry which is against the law. Its punishable. Its for trespassers like you that think "I'm not breaking and entering". It must be okay. - Having said that, thanks for the tour and keep up the good work!
In law the owners need to perform a discharge of duty. Public signage, that reads private property no trespassing. Then any form of entry is an illegal act.
I think that was Santa's Sleigh. There were always the Unsavoury types that would try and Spoil Christmas . At least that's what the cartoons said . They had backups . You found one .
If only the owner has invested in a private property no trespassing sign the act of trespassing would be a criminal offence. I’d like to explore the Taft muppets house when he is out using some of his non invasive entry' techniques. If any of these idiots suffered personal injury they would have the right to sue the owners. This country what a mess.
At the beginning of the video during the drone footage I kinda got a feeling-vibes that it is something out of the old film. Water-world I can just imagine people making it into a city - town like from the movie
They picked ones that couldn't swim away as if they were prisoners. No offense taken cause we did harsh things to our own american citizens. But i love to know
If this were a ww2 bunker on common land, you could state it was abandoned and make a video as you explore it. These forts are privately owned. Unless invites you have no right to be there. It’s trespass and hugely immoral. It’s like staring through a persons window of their house. Granted they are hugely interesting places, but the lack of permissions here leaves me feeling a sense of anger for the creators of this tripe.
Thumb print lol. Wouldn't do anyone any good having my thumb print. I've never been thumb printed therefore I'm not in "the system" by not doing anything wrong, I prevent the need to do so. I'll be keeping it that way also, there's enough problem with privacy invasion by government as is. Big Brother is watching 🤨
DOH theres a mistake in this video, a piece of another video which isnt meantg to be there, but I decided to leave it in because its so random and gives you a tease of the next video to come. Doh.
thats just madness leaving a video in a video just madness i say lol
Inception
hey matt did you go out to NAB TOWER off isle of white? as well??? jus seen it on google maps quite a way out
Nothing wrong with that mate , superb video I didn't realise that one had more to it although in bad shape . Well done to all for all your efforts really looking forward to the next one 👍👍👍👍
Did you say south sea or selsey?

Wow you are the history man. Thanks for that, it really filled in the blanks.
Had a shiver when you read out that stone chance metal label , my dad used to work for that company in crawley sussex , they made lighthouse stuff and boilers for the navy ships that turned salt water into drinking water , was originally called stone platt. 👍👍👍
Awesome and TY for sharing!!♡
Great info...I was really wondering if the big armored box was to barricading the entrance.
This whole video was brilliant and kaleigh has proven herself to be a real explorer
It’s trespassing
Perhaps the boat that made a b line for them was exploring their abandoned boat?
12:12 that looks like a track on the ceiling. You might have been pulling on the wrong thing. 🤣😅 I wonder if that wall moved.
Smoooooth operator. Thank you, Matt, and crew.
I was praying for Katy till she landed inside the boat. Kudos Katie!!!♡
Thank you so much! X

Love these forts, much larger than you think! Great video fella really enjoyed it 👍
I think you will find those chimney holes are blast vents from the cartridge and shell rooms / handling areas. In case of an accidental explosion they would vent the blast to the outside instead of blowing the fort to bits. Just an educated guess.

Wow awesome that boat can shift thanks for showing us looking forward to the next one ☝️
I just can't get over how cool that place is, you do have the life though brother. I know you put in a lot of time and work to make all these awesome videos, it is definitely well worth it though brother. You enjoy it just as much as I enjoy watching them, that place was amazing thank you brother.
love the ending ✌🏼
Brilliant, Just bloody brilliant, really enjoyed this explore, and a massive well done to kayleigh for retrieving the boat at the end, (braver than i am thats for sure), she also earned another subscriber for her efforts =)
What next Buckingham palace? Try ''exploring' that? Is there nowhere in the valley he can trespass on?
Great video content! New subscriber! Those skies are completely pasted geo-engineering (chemtrails) . The technology to build such a thing is incredible! Much appreciated from upstate NY!
Go Kayleigh what a girl 👍🏻👍🏻

Would be an amazing hotel. Need to demolish the upper structures though super dangerous!
The other two hotels do not work. That’s why they are selling. Check out the trip advisor reviews. Looks so dated and neglected.
Great Video
wow another golden gem
I got here in last 5minutes of premiere...

Fairplay Matt another top video
nesting season for the gulls is over so that’s why there is any
those metal poles are called accrow props used to stabilized loose ceilings or walls
Those Tennamast masts cost quite a lot these days Matthew
Ouyr Ham radio club uses one mounted on a trailer.

Looks awesome to go with my breakfast
37:34 looks like helmets for grit blasting rust off stuff 👍🏼🇬🇬
If those were the chimney exits at the top of the spiral they may have been located there to be sheltered from the adverse conditions at sea. A conventional chimney pot exit would get wind down it all winter long. Just a thought. Does seem strange though.

Brilliant mate. Who needs regular tv when stuff like this is on youtube. Well done to Kayleigh. Wonder how cold the water was? Would it not be worth wearing a wet suit underneath your clothes in case for next time?

42:00 adam started focusing on his daly "less edited" channel "the daly woo" so he does more tourism ish stuff I do miss his adventures for me.
'Bomb disposal helmets' look like they are for use while sand-blasting - maybe for removing rust and paint from metal ceilings?
I'd live in these Forts and put my own Pirate Radio station there
Hey Matt Could that silt build up actually be a build up of Sea Salt from Ocean Spray ?
9:35 looks like the door
If only the owner has invested in a private property no trespassing sign the act of trespassing would be a criminal offence. Breaking and entering does not mean “breaking” something 😂😂 it means “breaking the boundaries” you silly man😂😂😂
