I had the pleasure of working with the late Jacob Miller as I was lead guitarist for the 'Everything Is Great' European tour. He and I became good friends and even talked at length about working together on some projects once the tour was over. He AND my wife Pauly Ortiz have been my greatest inspirations as a vocalist and I even used to sound check his mic for him as I was able to mimic his style to a point ... but only to a point lol ;-) What a performer and what a funny and nice man too. Missin' ya Jakes ... Joe 'Gitzy' Ortiz ....

Ras Roots No Ras ... I joined Inner Circle shortly after this. Went to Nassau Bahamas Compass Point Studios to record the Everything Is Great LP then toured with them for almost 2 years and played onthe New Age Music LP also. The greatest hits lp I am playing on at least seven of the songs - mostly the live stuff ;-)

Ras Roots I think the funeral was in Jamaica and I was back in NYC at the time. I did see his mom on a New York Subway train months later. We stared at each other for about 6 or 7 stops and when I went to get off the train - so did she ... she asked "you knew and worked with my son Jacob?" I remembered having a Christmas dinner with all band members at her house in Long Island ... we gave each other a massive but silent cuddle. Nothing more needed to be said ....
