Electric attics fans usually cause more problems than they solve. They create a low pressure inside the attic that will eventually pull conditioned air out of the home after the soffit vents get clogged. Eventually, if there is not enough air to "feed" the fans, it creates too much static pressure or "drag" on the motors and the motors will eventually burn out. If you are looking to cool down your attic simple install AtticFoil in your attic. It's far more effective. Just like it's better to park your car in the shade, then crack the windows. AtticFoil Radiant Barrier Foil Insulation is like "shade" from the heat even though it's installed INSIDE the attic. It's and easy DIY project that will SAVE you a ton of money and make your home MORE COMFORTABLE. Buy online DIRECT from the manufacturer: www.AtticFoil.com
I just spent 1.5M completely restoring my MCM architecture childhood home. After putting on new decking, a used a product called Polarium, under the black architectural shingles. I happen to have (on both attics) a massive architectural soffit, that mimic the roofline. I foamed the entire house and put in low E 366 double pained, Argon filled windows. My attics were still hotter than I liked them to be. So yesterday, I put in the Remington solar fans with power adapters. I kid you not, they used to be unbearable to go into and humid, ( just one problem with living in the South). I just went up to see how they felt and it was night and day difference. I’m ordering the Wifi sensors, so I can check on both the heat and humidity. All I can say is, WOW, what a difference and for 1k for two fans, two power adapters and install. I can tell you, it was worth every penny. I would recommend this set up to everyone. It isn’t about the money but how much better the spaces feel.
Polarium directly under shingles with no airspace is not a radiant barrier. It's in their fine print. Just a normal underlayment.
I have mid-roof vents and 2 solar fans. Just installed radiant barrier from you guys, of course leaving the vents open. Next step is bringing insulation up to snuff then my attic will be perfect.
Thank you so much for the business and installing www.AtticFoil.com. If you are inclined will you please consider writing a short Google review? g.page/r/Cf4BwSi-NV0qEB0/review
The reason I support this is what I did in a simple mobile home years ago,, I was poor and decided to put aluminum foil over cardboard and put in almost all windows , the foil rejected the sunlight's heat and the cardboard was insulation , it was like a ice box in there and reduced electric bill substantially
Thanks, yes www.AtticFoil.com works in windows too!
I put in two wind turbines in the roof over the living area and one in the roof of the garage when I had my roof redone. They work great, especially the garage which used to get up to 120F in the summer. Yes I do keep my soffit vents clean, I have the old screen-style ones made of heavy-duty wire that are easy to clean with a soft bristle brush. I wouldn't use a radiant barrier as I have antennas in the attic and all that foil will block the signals and screw up the reception.
We have had many customers install www.AtticFoil.com in an attic with antennas. Simply go around them or cut out the section over them. Or, run the AtticFoil below them. Leaving some spaces open will have minimal effect on the benefit of a radiant barrier.
Did someone install this for you?
I leave the attic door open in the garage and the garage door open a crack. Then it creates a nice draft into attic and comes out the vents
In regards to what you said about lack of air flow through the soffit vents causing excessive load on the attic fans, you are incorrect. A fan has less load when it is under a vacuum, because there is less air density for the blades to grab. That is why when you clog up the hose on a vacuum cleaner, you hear the motor speed increase. You may overheat the motor from lack of available airflow for cooling, but not because of increased load.
Yes, I said it changes the static pressure on the fan. Good comment!
You confirmed what my roofing contractor said. I was thinking fans and he suggested ridge vents.
Very true about those soffit vent holes being cut too small. A subcontractor tried to do that to me. I complained and the contractor made them do it right. If you bought a house with soffit vents, check to see if the holes are cut correctly.
Thanks for the comment. You are 100% right. At www.AtticFoil.com we've seen it countless times.
Agreed, around here there are tons of houses built in the late 90's that HAVE NO SOFFIT VENTS at all!
Most houses have vents from the rear of the house to the front like above the garage. A fan pulls the cooler air for the rear and vents it out the front or vise versa. This means the attic is cooler, the A/C works a little less because the ducting is cooler.
I'd disagree on this. MOST homes have soffit vents around the perimeter of the home. Not a gable style vent you mention.
I like the attic foil idea. I'm putting in a gable fan in the 1914 Craftsman bungalo on th east side. There's a window with screen on the west side and a louvered vent in the peak on the north side. I have a great deal of large Oak and Catulpa providing good shade except for the middle of he day. Sunny days with no wind need some help too pull that hot air out. The foil will be interesting to see about knocking down the radiant heat.
One convcern would be reflecting that radiant heat back up to the underside of the plywood decking, underlayment and shingles and causing excess heating of the roofing materials.
Don't worry about the roof temperature. Only goes up a few degrees when www.AtticFoil.com is installed. Complete info plus thermal image video here: atticfoil.com/index.php/knowledge-zone/knowledge-zone-learn-about-radiant-barrier/myth-or-truth-radiant-barrier-damages-roof-shingles/
@@AtticFoil Thanks. I'll check it out. I'm rewiring my whole house right now and working in the attic. I'll grab some and put it up and see what my new FLIR picks up.
I've got a 15 deg slope facing due south that gets direct sun between 11a and 1p this time of year.
I have Gable Vents and plan to install soffit vents and baffles.
I think with the Gable Vents, the electric fan will work well in my case as those do not get clogs really.
Ideally, I'd do more but this foil stuff is kinda expensive for the area I'd need to cover...
Don't bother with soffit vents if you have gable vents. The fans will always pull from the path of least resistance which will be the gable vents. As for expense? www.AtticFoil.com is the best money you can spend if you live in a hot-sunny area.
I wish I had an attic but it doesn't exist in a mobile home. My next big project is going over the existing composition roof and get an air barrier and then insulation and finally a metal roof. We have to do something because we have been running 10 F above average temperatures. Just a few days ago I experimented with some old bubble wrap I had and screwed a sheet on the inside of my storage shed and I felt the difference. I am not recommending bubble wrap but just wanted to experiment and I could feel the difference. Working out the logistics of my big project for a DIY project is going to be put to a cooler time of the year. First we got flooded this winter and now we are baking in this hottest world heat wave on record. Wow, what a combination. By the way thank you for the information on the roof fan. Unfortunately I installed a small solar panel fan from Costco about 8 years ago and really haven't seen a difference. The section of the house where the solar fan is often is 10 degrees warmer and the side of the house that has the old fashioned roof fan is cooler by 10 degrees. I am not sure what exactly is happening but I have thermometers throughout the house and it is evident that the difference in the house temperatures are seen and felt.
Thanks for the comment. I'd look at a metal roof and install www.RoofingFoil.com will make a huge difference. Here is video showing the concept. ua-cam.com/video/OlYvkM_CHXU/v-deo.html
attic foil is great but youre moving in alot of moisture when you move in air! make sure you have enough exhaust so it can breathe
Explain further. Yes, you want both intake and exhaust vents.
My attic fan keeps my attick a steady 95 degrees. It starts around 11 am and shots off 9 pm most days. Im in sw Florida
A fan will work to keep the AIR cooler which is fine. This is like leaving the windows open in a car. Yes, the AIR temperature is lower but the leather seats in the sun are still 150 degrees. www.AtticFoil.com lowers the INSULATION TEMPERATURE which is really what drives heat into the home.
My south Florida roof is over 50 squares with standing room overhead height in the attic, and with a new architectural shingle roof. But this past summer the heat buildup was extraordinary. When I did the new roof I had the two electric fans taken out and had three passive goose neck exhausts put in, so I’m not sure if the increase in attic heat was due to the new exhaust system, the switch from cement tile to shingle, or that the world was burning up under a huge heat wave last summer. Now I’m not sure what I’m going to do because if next summer is anything like this past one I’m gonna be toast.
First, I would really check the intake vents to make sure air is getting INTO the attic. Second, sounds like a perfect application for www.AtticFoil.com Just staple up and be done with it. We sell a LOT in Florida. Partial coverage works, the more coverage the better. I'd recommend getting a single roll and testing on South side. You will be amazed the first sunny day. Just move from the part of the attic with the AtticFoil to the part without and you will FEEL the difference.
@@AtticFoil - Thanks for responding. I went to your website but did not see a list of approved or recommended contractors that could quote the job. I realize this is a DIY product but at my age I’m afraid it’s beyond my capabilities. Any suggestions?
Honestly, this is our biggest frustration right now. Work is abundant and most contractors would rather not work in attics. We get calls/emails everyday looking for installers for www.AtticFoil.com So, we don't have a "list" if you email us your zip code we can check if we have anyone close. Your best bet is probably hire a "handyman" type person. Or, a couple college age kids willing to work. Pay them well and it sill still be much less than hiring a professional contractor.
I have gable vents (very large vents) at both ends of my attic a attic fan will just move the air through my attic
You are correct. With gable vents, this is usually not a problem. However, combining www.AtticFoil.com with the gable vents/attic fan is the way to go to create both "shade" and "breeze".
What about an inline fan with an inlet from the bathroom and an open inlet in the attic exhausting out an existing vent. Its quiet and you can have it on a timer or automation. This helps exchange inside air as well as cool the attic.
You never want to dump warm-moist bathroom air into the attic. All bathroom vents should go past the attic to the outside. Especially during colder weather. Putting warm-moist air into a cold attic is recipe for condensation, mold etc.
It would seem to me that the attic foil is not an insulator and the fact that it’s inside the attic seems worthless. The heat is already in the shingled and conducting into the attic area. The foil is not an insulator but a reflector and as such won’t do much in the attic away from the sun. Finally look at all the work you need to do in the attic. It’s a nightmare to work around the roof trusses. I’d love to see some real comparison data before I’d try this.
As much as we try at www.AtticFoil.com some people cannot grasp the concept of "invisible" radiant heat the ability to reflect heat. Yet, they cover a turkey with foil to keep the skin from burning and say www.AtticFoil.com in attic does not work??? Here are a couple thousand reviews from happy customers if it helps: www.shopperapproved.com/reviews/AtticFoil.com
@hammer-r, the radiant barrier concept is totally legit. I used to work in pest control and every home’s attic that had a radiant barrier, was much cooler than the homes without it. There’s even a radiant barrier paint which can be applied to the underside of the roof decking, joists, etc., and which works similarly to a physical foil, but probably not quite as well.
1:13 is exactly how my roof looks but attic has no ventilation because turbines are too close to ridge vents, basically one becomes intake and the other exhaust, so it’s a loop at top of roof but little air actually gets pulled through soffits. My understanding is you should only use one or the other but not both at the same time
Yes, you do not want to "mix" types of exhaust vents. Stick with one and go with it.
Wow 😮 very informative
Looks like this will make it a lot easier to spot roof leaks inside the attic 😂
Actually it does. Any water will go down the www.AtticFoil.com until it gets to a seam and then drip. It will also leave staining on the AtticFoil. So, the leak will be just uphill from the stained edges.
We bought a home with a roof built over the original roof in Texas. How would I go about deciding on a vent system?
Would need to see pics and more info. But, you should be able to cut holes through both roofs?
I have a cold attic, so need a fan because my crappy insulation is letting hot air meet the cold air and it looks like someone took a garden hose to my attic ceiling.
Your problem is not the insulation. If your attic "ceiling" is wet this is from warm-moist air passing from the house INTO the attic and then condensing on the bottom of the cold roof deck. You need to SEAL up your living space ceiling - can lights, top wall plates, light fixtures, AC boots and registers, bathroom fans etc. Anywhere air there is a "hole" in your ceiling. If you fix, this you wont' need a fan.
I live on the gulf coast. My house is Fortified Gold certified. My roof is sealed so it is not vented. No soffit and no peak vent. Will Radiant Foil still work in my situation?
If the roofline is insulated either with batts or spray foam, not much benefit to put "under" the insulation. If the roof is bare (and sealed) which would be unusual, then YES, the www.AtticFoil.com would make a big impact. A radiant barrier works BEST with a ventilated space, but it still works well in a sealed space.
I appreciate this advice.
How does attic foil affect the shingled roof? I would think it would cause the the shingles to heat up further because the radient heat is being reflected back at them.
Not really. Here is the info with thermal imaging to show a roof only increases 5-10 degrees over a radiant barrier which will not cause damage: atticfoil.com/index.php/knowledge-zone/knowledge-zone-learn-about-radiant-barrier/myth-or-truth-radiant-barrier-damages-roof-shingles/
@@AtticFoil What you say makes sense because you're not installing the radiant barrier right on the roof sheathing, you're attaching it to the rafters so there is a considerable air gap. A friend of mine already did this to his house and it made a huge difference. I'll have to check your product out, thanks!
I wonder if I should wait to do this until after I install solar panels?
All solar is done outside/on top of the roof. Should not matter either way when you install www.AtticFoil.com
@@AtticFoilman you have more patience than I do, I do not envy you having to answer to all these inane people with the criticisms and the armchair contractors
Thanks! The best part is when they contact us (the experts) and have a question and then argue with our answer.
How do you think your product would work on a garage door vs typical panel foam insularion?
look at this product: bluetexinsulation.com/products/bluetex-50-wide-roll-up-garage-door-kit You can easily cut to fit standard 4 or 5 panel doors.
I have a finished attic that is too hot in the summer. Do any of you have any suggestions for what I could do for a finished attic? (Two bedrooms, hallway, and small bathroom) I have central air, but no return vents in top floor. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Here is an old article I wrote covering how to handle hot rooms: www.radiantbarrierguru.com/hot-rooms-in-my-house---when-all-else-fails---part-2/
Seems this foil could also trap moisture from humidity(?).
That's why you install it so air flows freely on both sides. The www.AtticFoil.com never changes the attic ventilation AND it is perforated so it is NOT a vapor barrier. It's all in the install guide.
At my old house or my older sister of two lives are attic fan for some reason just stopped working when I was living there, maybe this is why
Probably. Seen it a hundred times. Clean those soffit vents and install www.AtticFoil.com to keep the attic cooler.
Does this void warranty on new roof
No all roofing companies honor their warranty over www.AtticFoil.com and in fact in some areas a radiant barrier is REQUIRED on new construction homes.
I can embrace the foil idea and see how it could be better than a fan. But will it keep heat in in the winter? (I'm thinking in terms of my small work shed -- 100 sq ft.)
If you want year-round benefit look at our products for metal buildings: www.BlueTexInsulation.com Same 97% reflectivity in the Summer and a little bit of insulation to keep it warmer (with a small heater) and control interior condensation.
Just finished installing mine this winter and was hoping it would help since my house only has like 2 or 3 inches of cellulose insulation in the attic. Good news it makes a world of a difference.
Really appreciate the business from www.AtticFoil.com If you are inclined, will you please write a short google review? It really helps. Ed. g.page/r/Cf4BwSi-NV0qEB0/review
How much do you charge per sq.feet of attic foil.
My home
is 2, 200 sq Ft.
www.AtticFoil.com material is about .17/sq. ft. Pricing is on the website here: atticfoil.com/index.php/products/48-wide-double-sided-atticfoil-radiant-barrier-foil-perforated/
Instead of nailing the problem let’s figure out a solution. Attic fans are essential.
I do offer a solution. Two wind turbines are just as effective as an attic fan. Combine with www.AtticFoil.com and hot attic problem is solved.
I have a home built with pre-made roof trusses.....when I get up into the attic it looks like a jungle-gym of beams and trusses that get in the way of any personal movement. Plus, my interior uses a lot of raised, peaked ceilings that also cause hard access to the attic area above these areas. So the question becomes.....how can you do this radiant foil barrier....especially if you are considering DIY ?
Advise? Do as much as you can as fast as you can. www.AtticFoil.com has cumulative effect. The more coverage the better. But don't expect to get every inch. Have you seen this video? ua-cam.com/video/YGoLG2Q24JY/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Ours looks the same. My wife and I got ours installed in the entire attic over the period of a month. Some areas we'd be able to run 15-20' and others I'd have to do in 2' sections. Keep in mind we were no experts. Our experience has been great so far. Just the other day I checked some temperatures. The foil was reading 86 and just beside it I could read the roof shingle through a vent hold and it was 105. This will be our first summer with them so I'm hoping for the best.
Thanks for using www.AtticFoil.com we appreciate it!
@@ratandjmtwhat sort of differences did you notice?
Do you have a rep / installer in Phoenix AZ? What ought to be a fair price for materials and labour for a 1200 sq ft. house? Does the raidant barrier have to be totally sealed or does it still work "pretty good" if I do a sloppy install myself?
Your best best is a "handyman" type or even some college students or day workers. As for sealed? Watch this video - don't overthink it: ua-cam.com/video/YGoLG2Q24JY/v-deo.html
I live in a 1962 house and it has a huge attic fan in the hallway. When I use it, it seems like its so powerful it sucks the smell right of the the drain pipes. yuk. I had my roof recently replaced and those old school round spinning vents were removed. Now there's a narrow-- thingy-- running along the middle of the roof life that is suppose to be a new venting system? Sorry, I don't know the correct terminology. I want to install insulation soon but a big chunk of the ranch style attic has hardly any insulation and the conservation map for Texas says I should use R30-R49 but Home Depot didn't even have that. They had the R-19 but the map said that was for walls. Am I better off just getting radiant barrier? I live in SA TX. help.
You have two issues and www.AtticFoil.com can help with one. First, the whole house fan "pushes" from the home air into the attic. Combined with open windows this is a decent way to cool the home assuming the temperature outside is cooler. Unfortunately, in San Antonio there is only a few weeks of the year this works, so usually you need to run the AC. Your attic may not have enough holes for the air to get out and this may be causing smells to push back into the home. Whole house fans are very popular or effective in central Texas. So, if the weather is nice, just open the windows and enjoy. For the insulation, you need to combine both radiant barrier and traditional insulation. Here is a page that discusses the 4 sliver bullets for attics in hot climates: www.radiantbarrierguru.com/four-silver-bullets-for-saving-energy-in-hot-climates/
Can I just use attic foil in my attic without fiberglass insulation on the attic floor to keep the living room cooler?
No, www.AtticFoil.com is for the radiant heat. You still need "regular" insulation for the conductive heat. Watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/N0-YD32ujYY/v-deo.html
Doesn't fresh air come in through open windows?
I think you are thinking of a whole house fan. This video is about using Attic Fans.
What about whole house fans?
Whole house fans are different. You are pulling air from outside (usually through windows) and pushing into the attic. This is usually done in mild climate areas or at night when it naturally cools down. This is usually OK since the air is not "conditioned". Combining www.AtticFoil.com and whole house fans is very popular in mountain areas. Many homes have no AC and the radiant barrier keeps the home even cooler.
I had a ridge vent installed when I had my roof replaced. Does this mean I can have the electric fan removed? The roofer didn’t say anything about it. Thanks.
I would just turn it off. Won't cause any issues unless it's running. If running it will pull air in the ridge vent instead of the soffits. Be sure to also install www.AtticFoil.com
@@AtticFoil OK, thanks.
I'm considering installing your product! I've checked and made sure that my eve vents are clear of debris. In my attic, which has a tall roof line of 15 feet, I have two electric fans installed at the top. I use the attic space, which is quite large, as a wood shop and storage area.
There are cross members positioned at 12 feet high, extending from one side of the roof to the other. This is where the two fans are installed, placed above the cross members. I'm wondering if it would be better to put the foil on the cross members to keep the fans "inside" the area of air movement. Would this be the preferred setup? In this configuration, the fans would be pulling air from "inside" the roof/foil barrier. If keeping the fans in place is wise, would it make sense to have a couple of holes below the fans to allow air in the interior of the attic to be pulled out too? I can take pictures if that would help you understand better!
I just saw in your video to leave holes in the foil directly below the fans. In my case this will vent the roof "and" the attic space too. Answered!!!
Thanks, sounds like a unique application. Please send us some pictures of your installation to www.AtticFoil.com (contact us).
Will do! Thanks for the reply!
Does Attic Foil cause an increase in roof temperature and humidity due to the lack of air flow?
No. More info and video here: atticfoil.com/index.php/knowledge-zone/knowledge-zone-learn-about-radiant-barrier/myth-or-truth-radiant-barrier-damages-roof-shingles/
You could fry eggs in my attic
This is why you should install www.AtticFoil.com now while it is cooler.
I can understand the benefit for helping cool in the summer. Wouldn’t it also cause you to lose heating efficiency in the winter?
There is actually very little heat gain through the roof in the winter. The days are short, the sun is low and heat is "sucked" out of the roof since heat goes from hot to cold. And, the www.AtticFoil.com inside the attic will help some to keep the heat from escaping. This is especially beneficial in areas with problematic ice damming.
You want your attic to be the same temp as outside....
Would attic foil work with a whole house Fan blowing air into the attic
Yes, generally www.AtticFoil.com works well in combination with a whole house fan. Remember, the whole house fan is blowing INTO the attic. And, the attic has "holes" or vents for the air to get out. You just want to install the AtticFoil so that these holes are not blocked. You want air to flow freely from the windows, through the home/whole house fan, into and out of the attic.
@AtticFoil
Do you install or have contacts for installation.
In some areas we do. Best to email support email at www.AtticFoil.com

Oh and one more question; wouldn't the radiant barrier be better on the outside of the roof (beside for looking goofy)?
You would never put fiberglass between the rafters on the roof in a ventilated attic. This is like holding a jacket over your head. Why??
Absolutely works better. For metal and tile roofs, we make www.RoofingFoil.com or here are some outdoor applications for www.AtticFoil.com atticfoil.com/index.php/applications/exterioroutdoor-use/

Thank you!
i get that you guys claim that it only raises shingle temps by 5-10 degrees, however can this cause issues with shingle manufacturer warrenties? and how would you say your product compares to the reflective bubble barriers sold in big box stores?
All shingle manufactures warranty their products over a radiant barrier. Many areas REQUIRE a radiant barrier buy code. As for bubble foil? it works but not any better than www.AtticFoil.com since air is flowing on both sides the bubbles provide no r value. It's like holding a jacket over your head. Why??
I mean you sell the attic foil so there’s that
NOTHING gets by you.
You clearly dont live in texas... I would NEVER use a roof fan, I have a rectangular sized home and bought two wall attic fans and put one pulling air in and the one on the other end pushing air out. It gets to be like 150 + degrees in my attic in the Texas summers. I disagree with your opinion.
Actually, you DO agree with me. You say you would never use a roof/attic fan. We agree. The whole premise of the video is that MOST of the time an attic fan ends up sucking air out of the house. You have a different set up. You are actually pushing air into the attic to feed the other fan. So, we do agree. Finally, just like a parked car. You can leave the windows wide open and have GREAT ventilation and the car will still be WAY hotter than if you parked in the shade with the windows up. This is why when you combine www.AtticFoil.com with minimal ventilation (no fans required) the attic AIR temperature will be within 10 degrees of ambient.
Dont do it. The foil heats up the shingles and you will need to replace your roof. You’ve been warned

Stop spreading bad info: atticfoil.com/index.php/knowledge-zone/knowledge-zone-learn-about-radiant-barrier/myth-or-truth-radiant-barrier-damages-roof-shingles/ All shingle manufactures warranty their products over radiant barriers.
This is not true, you are trying to sell your business in a inaccurate way, firs, reflecting material dos not reflect anything isf is not directly expose to the sun, you are under a roof, is not reflecting anything, insulation is 100 time better then that crap that you are selling, attic fan physically remove hot air that is continually created in the attic and the grill are rarely clogged, 99 per cent they are always clear and open, your stuff does not recirculating air is just there creating an incredible hot layer of heat in between you foil and the roof, so lets be honest your stuff does not work as well as a fan
TELL US YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT RADIANT HEAT IS WITHOUT TELLING US. LOL www.AtticFoil.com
A customer of Attic Foil here. DIY'ed it a few years ago. Austin area. Before the radiant barrier, the underside of the roof that faces dead west rang 145F in the afternoon sun. 115F after the radiant barrier. Putting up the radiant barrier and bringing the blown-in insulation up to code have been the best bang-for-the-buck home improvement projects. Hands down. As for the left over foil material, I found many uses for that stuff. It's thick and fantastically durable foil.
Thanks so much for the comment! I really appreciate it! Any chance you can copy/paste this into a google review?? It really helps! Ed. g.page/r/Cf4BwSi-NV0qEB0/review
I am not a paid sponsor of your product. I purchased and installed the AtticFoil in the attic of my 1250 sq ft ranch house. I noticed an immediate reduction in the temperature of the attic. I also use a Triangle brand whole house fan. Between the attic foil (in the day), and the whole house fan (at night), my house stays super comfortable.
Of course I am lucky to live in Sacramento, CA…where we get a ‘Delta Breeze’ on most evenings.
I rarely use my central AC system. So, I do swear by the performance of the attic foil.
Try it yourself. Turn an iron to full blast. Now put your hand a few inches away from the iron. You’ll feel the radiant heat. Now, stick a sheet of aluminum foil between you and the iron. The foil will slow down/stop the radiant heat from reaching your hand. The stuff works!
Thanks for recommending www.AtticFoil.com We REALLY appreciate it. If possible, can you copy/paste into a google review? g.page/r/Cf4BwSi-NV0qEB0/review
My house doesn't have ridge vents, but has gable vents. The roof is made of concrete tiles. Will the gable vents be enough to draw are from the attic?
Normally Yes if you have soffit vents to let air into the attic. Are you using the gable vents and installing www.AtticFoil.com ? If so, just leave a gap a the top and the hot air will end up in the top of the attic and find a way out the gable vents.
@@AtticFoil Thanks, Yes I am. Do you think I need some type of channel of Radiant Barrier to guide it to the gable or just assume it will find it's way? I have two attics, one, about 500 sq ft, above a second story which I am going to radiant barrier and another I can't easily get to. The first attic has the air handler.
No, don't overthink it. Think of it like water heading towards a drain. With the gap in at the top in the www.AtticFoil.com all the hot air will "pool" in the top of the attic and find its way out. We are not really too concerned with some hotter air in the top of the attic. We just have the radiant barrier help keep the attic insulation cooler from the radiant heat.
I don't know if I agree with anything this guys says. Wind trubins. work except for when you need them on a hot no wind day. I would use a combination of a wind turbine and either power or solar venting. Putting foil in your attic seems like a bad idea for me. If your shingles is get up to 160 degrees on the top then the heat will go down and hit the foil and reflect back up onto your roof decking. Causing what us roofers called a double bake, thus it will dry out your roofing decking causing the roof deck to delimiate and dry rot.
First, often we don'd feel a breeze between houses, fences etc. But there is almost always a breeze 15-20 ft high above the obstacles. Even if there is NO breeze the wind turbines still are a "Hole" to vent out. As, for double baking?? It's a myth. A roof only increases about 5-10º over a an attic with www.AtticFoil.com installed.
