the musicality of torment and deep fear spirals herself to full form in this piece. entirely raw and unnerving. excellent.

One one side it makes me feel like I'm being attacked by bees, but it's also extremely calming.

This playing is littered with intonation problems. 'Flail for dollars' and back-phrase does not replace there being intonation.Listen to Borodin Quartet fir better how all this should sound. Sure, they dig in harder for the Furioso movement, but with stronger intonation, which automatically backs there also being stronger rhythm, the violence infusing how this portion of this work is written is the greater, not lesser. The dissonance, painfully close intervals in this writing Shostakovich picked up from the music of Carl Nielsen. One, even without there being woodwinds instead of strings, should hear this, and on this recording, I clearly have trouble doing so. All that shows in Emerson's playing of this is the effort. The passacaglia is better than the first two movements here.

Dude it's a live recording, cut a little slack. It obviously won't have studio perfection. I think they sound great.
