- March 23, 4:00 pm (San Francisco) - Learn about Unity's new solution for creating smaller, faster, lighter experiences that will enable you to reach everything from entry-level devices to wearables. Our advanced compression techniques, combined with our Entity Component System architecture, leads to fast delivery, loading, and start-up times. Gain an understanding of what Unity's small solution is and what the various deployment options it makes possible. Learn about how it relates to the other Unity data-oriented design efforts and how we're thinking about small code going forward.
Speakers:
Vlad Vukicevic, Senior Engineer, Emergent Technology at Unity - Ігри
This is great video to start hearing about ECS rather than the more in depth Unity Austin one that goes more in depth.
This looks really amazing.
It's been 3 years could you please finish this feature
unity roadmap 2021: plan ecs 2022 roadmap
Its sad that plenty of packages/features get abandoned, delayed or just "replaced" by buying the rights to some unity asset store asset.
Unity for small games! Yes!!!
woah i didnt know that Liev Schreiber did know so much about coding.
You need to be a computer scientist to work in Unity, most (if not all) of these guys actually work with the engineers in the engine's source code.
@@bravo075 dude it was a joke
Did they release the video of the Flappy Bird recording?
did you find it? can you please share the link.
My one and only question after watching this is:
What is "Unity For Small Things"?
Is it a new editor?
A new build platform?
An umbrella term for when you develop using these new tools ECS/Job with performance in mind?
I have no idea.
And is it possible to program in C# and still have such small files?
Watch video?
It clearly says "ECS for Small Things". So its how to implement ECS for performance increase/scalability.
That is Unity tiny
@@Banduck What's the correlation between C# and file size?
The biggest share of your "file size" (well over 99%), is coming from your assets. Textures, models, sounds etc.
Great news
"speed up" the 3D version : INSTANT 3D.
sounds gone sometimes? no?
ah my headset is broken T_T)
I just need right now (cried)
Why not 3D ?
aw shit this will be the only way in the future to do stuff? Alright cool for the bigger teams. But for not so advanced coders the component system was very easy to understand and use. ECS is a whole different beast. It will stife the very small indie games the one man projects since its a very complicated way of thinking. Sure once you get into the ECS thing it probably wont be that much harder to do stuff.. But for me, i've been watching ECS videos the last couple of days and i still dont get it... fuck this is frustrating.
Old post but.. I doubt it will stifle any small team or individual that would actually be capable of creating a game of any kind. Old post but ECS is a new concept that you need to get a grip on just like OOP was. It can be a bit of a headfuck but it's well worth learning and I anyone feeling the same as OP should just stick with it, it will click sooner or later.
ECS is easy, but Unitity provides a plattform without a documenation for it. So how should you be able to undestand it?
This seems like what could fully replace Flash. Small code that loads and runs fast. Great for small to large , but still simple games. Much like many Flash games where.
Only, we will not have Adobe shutting this down, as it may gain, popularity by indie developers.
I love Flash games. And found a way to keep Flash working so I can play many old downloaded Flash games. But only those saved off the net.
Will like to see what indie developers make with ECS.
What is this?! Unity for ants??
im late but that's epic
Make unity open source. Then we can really get things cooking
They can't, they use a lot of middleware(enlighten, umbra, third party libraries) that don't allow open source licences. They are moving more and more systems into jobs so they can open source as much as possible but until they roll their own versions of these systems they won't be able to open source. =
That would be awesome, asking this for ages but as Cynicat said, they need to sort that out properly.
If you can't get things going with all the utilities source and tools they've already given you with a lot of it is open source then you are already a failure and nothing that they give you additionally will help you succeed
Alexander Morano Moron-o troll much? There's more to software than making software. Some people are content to drive the car. Maybe that's you. Others like to look under the hood
Blender is open source and they just canceled their game engine. You had 17 years to use open source Blender and get things cooking and you didn't.
Javascript? ffs.
