    hey doctor , I'm a semifinalist medical student . Opthalmology was the reason i got into med school , i was wondering wiether an undergraduate puplished research on Opthalmology helps in residency programs selection or not ?

      Not sure I understand the context of "semifinalist medical student," but a publication at any stage of your career can demonstrate desire, sacrifice, etc. Just make sure to add the second "h" in your spelling (sorry to be that guy).

      Without a doubt, make sure to alert your eye doctor and get examined.

      +Randall Wong could it be a effect of my visual snow because I went last week and I was fine

      Not sure. I've seen a few patients who talk about visual snow and I usually suggest a neurologist check them out.

    Greetings Doc, Do you recommend cataract surgery and lysis of synechiae combined with SB/PPV/laser and gas OS.? Do you think there is a great risk of infection if both are done at the same time?

      Tough to answer as this seems to be a very complicated scenario, but I dont' feel there is a greater risk of infection.

      These are the notes I received. I know some docs will agree to do both and other docs will prefer to handle the RD first and deal with the cataract at a later date...
      Recent Retinal Detachment, Partial, With Multiple Defects/ Nuclear Sclerosis/ IOP 6
      "Client has had a recent episode of uveitis for which he was treated in NY with PF and oral prednisone. He has had decreased vision OS x 1.5-2 months. He was supposed to have surgery in NY. On exam OS, there is a small pupil with synechiae OS and a cataract OS. He has a total RD with stretch breaks and PVR. We discussed the need for surgery. We discussed that he should have cataract surgery and lysis of synechiae combined with SB/PPV/laser and gas OS. I have asked him to see Dr. XXX for evaluation of a combined case OS. We will schedule surgery."

    i was wondering patients with arn have to take valtrex for life?

    • @RandallWongMD
      @RandallWongMD  7 років тому

      No. That would be very, very unusual. Usual treatment is in the order of months. Randy

      Randall Wong my retina specialist wants me to stay on valtrex for long time. 1gram twice a day. I've had cataract surgery and vitrectomy surgery to remove scar tissue.. should I worry about any side effect since I'm going to be on this medication for long time

      I am going to have to defer to your own doctor on that one. Sorry, but I don't want to give you conflicting advice and he/she is your doc. r

      You really should contact your own doctor about this, I do not want and can not give you any medical advice. I'm sorry. Randy
