Still here watching your builds - 18k subs! I joined when you had something like 100...? That's amazing! You're a massive influence when I'm building in Fallout 4!
there is a generator room in the castle, just follow the power lines that are already in place when you first get there and they go to a dead end room inside. Perfect place to put some gene's and when you attach to the power cables a lot of the inside of the castle is already wired.
The past few days as I’ve been building across my settlements, I’ve been skimming through your videos to get some inspiration, that bar you built in sanctuary is one of my favourites, but I can’t wait to see your castle
Just a thought? I love smoking. I was never going to quit. But I decided I would 'vape' for five minutes before having a smoke. My last smoke was on 08/05/13. Finding a good juice you like, high enough NIC level for you, and good equipment is key. Once setup and happy, vaping is much cheaper than smoking. And, my non-smoking wife doesn't mind me vaping in the house :) #VapeToLive #Provari #Kabuki #GVC
+Peter Crockett I would LOVE to vape - and I did buy a nice vaporiser from a specialist place in London. However for whatever reason my body seems to be extra sensitive to nicotine in that form; even if I use my vape in small doses, I start to get palpitations and generally begin feeling very uncomfortable - like I'm about to have an anxiety attack. I'm going to be making another attempt at quitting soon - as I'm in a rather good place with youtube and work :)
+Peter Crockett I'm in the 'time to give up' headspace at the moment. I tried a couple of years ago and vaping helped a little but didn't stop me smoking entirely. I stopped vaping because my e-cig leaked all over my desk and ruined some important documents, I was so mad I threw it out and never replaced it. I quit drinking alcohol last year and it was the best thing I ever did, if I were to quit smoking the money I would save would be incredible and as I'm a pretty heavy smoker the health benefits are obvious also. I think it may be time to look into the vaping option again, its argued they are just as bad or they explode in your face etc but those cases are one in a million. Its helped some of my friends quit, might be time for me to try it. It will either end up in success OR I will get mega stressed, lose it and probably shoot up my workplace (lol, jokes internet police, calm yourselves.) XD
+norespawns Read Allen Carr's "Easy Way to Quit Smoking." I smoked for 25+ years, tried every method under the sun to stop, nothing ever worked. Read the book once, haven't had a cigarette since, no withdrawal symptoms, no problems. Best wishes. :)
+S-PRO Gaming The problem is smoking is so easy, and vaping isn't, yet. What works for me and I love, you might hate. *IF* you find the perfect setup and juice for you, then you will love vaping, it is that simple. The issue that +norespawns had could either be an allergy to PG, or NIC level too high for him. Trying other juices and time and effort to resolve would be needed, but just easier to go back to smoking, right? Anyhow, sorry to be off-topic, but Davy did mention smoking :P
As far as generators go, I put the big one on a platform outside the walls, next to the water purifier. In that spot you don't need to use the glitch to get through the wall because there's already a connection coming out for the purifier. And while I just threw down a smaller one so I had power for the transmitter, my long-term plan is to have a row of windmills atop one of the ocean-facing walls. I guess I could also do an offshore wind farm though. I think one reason your builds look so good is that you DO hide your errors. Most people don't -- or don't even seem to realize they've made an error.
I get the idea about posting guards to watch the sea. I have guard posts and heavy laser/missile turrets facing that way for the same reason, in addition to what I did on Spectacle Island increasing the possibility of future mirelurk attacks. The turrets facing Boston Airport are doubly important for reasons I won't spoil here.
Although I didn't use roofs I used floors. Also libertalia is cool but I didn't really look at it because (as you might find on my channel) I bum rushed it and didn't go through the way it wanted me to
2023 - I always wanted to make pathways feel more organic and using those sheet metal floors to close gaps is genius and I’ll be using this for settlements
I love your random style of building, the way you use the random pieces of railing for example. I find that my love of symmetry prevents my brain from letting me build like that and therefore I end up repeating ideas! Awesome build once again, the Castle has proven a difficult place to build for me and I keep putting it off in the hope a better idea pops into my head :)
+S-PRO Gaming I think you can repeat _ideas_ just fine. If you look at Davey's builds, he reuses the same kind of structures quite a lot. What you don't want is a lot of sameness or repetition of a single texture within a single settlement -- or at least not right next to each other -- because that strikes the eye as artificial.
Lytrigian I know what you mean, I am happy with what I've done using the same ideas so far, but I just finished building somewhat of a castle at Somerville place and I found it difficult to come up with a way to extend the main building without using more concrete. I ended up using lots of wood around the outside of the castle walls instead of more concrete and it looks great. I've done huge builds just to see if they can be done, but what I really love is building little shanty town type areas and they can often be harder because you only have a small inventory of items to work with and interiors especially are difficult to fill without using the same stuff. Nothing worse than a massive base with nothing in it though, in my Thundercats Oasis video I actually avoided showing the upper back area of the build because there is nothing in it, just lots of concrete blocks! XD
S-PRO Gaming There's quite a lot of space at Somerville Place though, isn't there? I only ever really feel the need to build onto the original structure a lot when space is very limited, like at Taffington Boathouse or Outpost Zimonja. Otherwise I prefer just to make it habitable, and spread the rest out a bit. (Edit: Well, maybe there's less than meets the eye. It seems big to me, but there isn't a whole lot there to start with, so it doesn't feel crowded.) The only site I feel like I'm really going to have to go balls-to-the-wall Kowloon Walled City on it is Hangman's Alley, but I'm a little afraid to start.
just putting it out there since idk if many people know it, but the guards will use two post each actually. so if you have say 8 post and 6 guards, 4 of those guards may stay at their post while two of them wander between two of them alternating their positions every once in awhile, which may be why the post give such a low defense
Just a little tip that I did to power the radio tower. I used the rug glitch with a large generator and put it in the support column tower thing. Then you can cover it by doing the rug glitch and putting the junk fence next to the wood foundation which you said you would cover in your next video
I love your builds and learn something new every single video I watch! thank you for fantastic ideas, I want to give scrappy walkways a shot in my next settlement build probably. I shoved all my generators behind the castle where no one can see them and wired then up to the existing wiring, didnt have to clip anything through walls but I did have to add new connectors. hella fun build
+ArtisticDuckie those walkways are an amazing way to add some depth and texture to certain areas. I remember I first did them at sunshine tidings and it completely transformed the area. And I'm kinda going to do that myself - have a separate building on the side facing the sea with several generators inside.
Great channel mate. Would love to see your take on a potential Grey Garden Settlement. Should be interesting with the adjoining highway beside. keep the grand vid's comin'!
if you take the wired fence and put it right next to any railing witch is slightly above the wire, you can hold X and you can fit the railing right in or on the floor...
Loving the videos! I admire how you keep the shanty, worn down look to everything. I would be interested if in The future you took a swing at Abernanthy to make a large farm. I would love to see how you tackle it. Thanks for reading.
For the bridge you should replace one of the shack foundation supports with shack staircases and wall it off to create a staircase up into the floor of that skybridge.
+Pete Jones You'll see it in the next video, but I'm going to use the junk fences as supports for the bottom half - the mix of solid and foundations looks very cool. It's the same technique that I use for my guard towers.
Your tutorials have really helped me in my settlement building! At first I placed the same railings all the time (and sometimes I do because I forget to vary it) but now I usually vary it. Still forgetting to redo the castle railings that I made before I found your videos for some reason though. Might not redo the castle railings though because I think that using the same railings can make it look more "civilized" for some fucking reason. Anyway, great video!
I know this is old, but if you guys are watching this, there is a corner room where you can put the generator, then connect to the conduits that are already there.
I believe that the castle was destroyed by the Yangtze off the coast of Boston. It is a nuclear sub with missiles. I figured that a mirelurk queen couldn't tear down concrete walls that thick.
No it was the Mirelurk Queen because sometimes you get a loading screen with info on the Castle and it actually says that it was destroyed by a monster which amerged from the sea
I know this is from 2 years ago, but jesus christ, USE STAIRWELLS FOR VERTICAL SNAPPING OF FOUNDATIONS. It's so much easier and looks so gooooooOoOoood. Great video though.
have you thought about doing the castle again? similar design but all cement instead?(and yes I'm only watching this video now... I've missed a few of your let's build videos and I've just been catching up... btw liked the vids before mods because I don't use mods... so it really did help...
You can actually make curved walkways Davey. There's a youtuber called Jug that does a few Fallout Settlement building videos. Specifically his Colosseum video I think. Not sure it would be quite as applicable for what you're going for but he does have some interesting building techniques. Be warned though, his voice is pretty tough to listen to for 30+ minutes.
+Potema Dunne I watched his video - not bad, I don't know if I'll use that technique (these settlements take long enough already). But I might try it on something in the future. His voice is alight - no Daniel Radcliffe rip off like me, obviously.
I really want to know how u made the radio tower into like a barracks or a building or something from your original castle build. It looks so much better but I don't think you've shown how to build it yet. I haven't been able to disect how u did it by just watching the video too. I try to remake almost everything I see but in my own way..I really wish u could see my settlements because I've put alot of work into them like you have. Not all of them but most of them though, but if you see this if you could let me know how you built that radio tower I would really appreciate it. I love your lets builds! absolutely a favorite of mine & I've been subscribed since I saw your very first sanctuary video.
+PoulMavinger I'll definitely be building a new radio tower in the next episode (or the one after, depending on how long this all takes!). So hopefully I make something you like :)
Hey, +norespawns , I love your builds and the style of them being a more "scrappy wasteland town" rather than a high tech organised town, but if you ever decide to stray away from the "scrappy" kind of look and decide to go a bit more of a large scale build. Watch a bit of ua-cam.com/users/jug , he handles builds that are a bit more industrial or "society rebuilt" as some might say. And he builds them on ps4 so there are no console commands or mods in his builds, just technique with the vanilla game files. He also uses a handful of your techniques with rug glitches and alternation. Just watch his newest video and see what you think. Might also add variety since your doing your project to buildup all settlements.
I re-red that comment and realised how demanding it sounded, and I didn't mean for it to be like that. You're one of the best builders in fallout 4 that I know, well not really know because I've never met you but you understand what I mean.
sure just now your all big time you can just teas the little guy. this post destroyed my life i hope u know lost my job had to eat my kids to live and now i live all alone in the worst pace on the planet hope your bit of teasing was worth it, XD
Okay, kinda have a few questions if you don't mind me asking. Are you playing on console or PC? How do you record the gameplay? And what microphone do you use? By the way, totally agree with having a scrappy design. Fallout 4 settlements are meant to have a scrappy design to match the rest of the world.
+7NatioN Honestly? Probably not as I'm using other games to Let's Play. Saying that I will likely do a little series when a new DLC comes out; as that would be easy to split into a few episodes.
+norespawns Yeah makes sense. Anyways I love these let's builds. They've really helped me with my own settlements. This series in particular is great because we get to see you go from nothing to a completed build
All of your settlements fit so naturally into the game, but this one and your Sunshine Tidings Co-Op look way better than even some of Bethesda's in-game areas. My settlements look so much better/more natural because of your tips (if you saw my builds I'm sure you'd consider them worthy of some praise) and I think I might even upload them to UA-cam to share with others now. I asked if you could show us how to build that skybridge and you delivered it in this video, so thanks for that :) and I know I asked you this on your last settlement tour but could you please design an armory/storage that could hold like 15 power armors and all the crafting stations. There's a trick to placing a wall on top of another wall without using an upper shack floor and without leaving a gap. Here's a link to that tutorial just in case you'd like to use it: ua-cam.com/video/tF3lMQhGolM/v-deo.html It'd be really cool if you could incorporate that trick into one of your builds (like the power armor armory/storage) because even though I (thanks to you, now) consider myself an expert settlement builder, I still haven't found a way to properly utilize this trick into building something that I like enough not to get rid of. And I'm sure you can do a million times better than what I built
+Clash Of Duty Glitch. Drop all your ranged weapons on the ground, go into workshop mode, and store them. Every time you do your settlement size goes down a little. Retrieve your weapons from the workshop and repeat until it shows as small enough. The break he takes at 3:30 was so he could do that. See how his bar went from yellow to green there?
Clash Of Duty Yeah. Doesn't seem to work with melee weapons. Scrapping the weapons does the same thing, so I've gotten into the habit of scrapping all the enemies' more useless weapons after they attack a settlement just to keep the size down.
@@norespawns you should step outside of your comfort zone and try using different structures as if you would have used the concrete set you could have had made a mid evil looking castle and Nuka world red rocket is a perfect place for the barn set as it looks more like something out of the old west. I make every settlement look unique and different from one another
I love getting comments were people complain about stuff that wasnt even possible then - anyhow, here is the latest version of the castle from the following year ua-cam.com/video/qxRdeYkkkUw/v-deo.htmlsi=y-rXrXJTYESIJpiz
@@norespawns your problem is that you don’t like people critiquing your work because you’re supposed to be some kind of expert well news flash you aren’t you lack style and imagination
+That random youtuber Wow, your 2nd ever youtube comment?! Wow, great for you, you really are coming out of your shell. Next week you'll be wanting to move out of your parent's basement.

+dembot24 Thanks! 20k is looming :)
NoRespawns drinking game, take a drink every time he says the word "Grand".
+LordUzaki Hardcore mode: take a drink every time he says "scrappy" as well
+LordUzaki I counted a grand total of three grands. Not exactly the grand of grands you led me to think there was, but I had a grand time anyway.
+LordUzaki "Shanty" and "Chuffed" too.
+LordUzaki I approve of this. It's a grand idea.
A little low in this video but Davey usually gives us a grand every minute or so!

LMAO I thought youll never use the shack stairwell. Its the most useful tool in making towers or buildings especially using concrete shack foundation
i only said if your going to build a lot of large building u might want to get the boots :P
+KIto D Heh I know - i'm just teasing. I just received quite a few comments last time and I thought I would nip any future comments in the bud :P
sure just now your all big time you can just teas the little guy. this post destroyed my life i hope u know lost my job had to eat my kids to live and now i live all alone in the worst pace on the planet hope your bit of teasing was worth it, XD
It's not supposed to be a shanty town it's a military base!
What quest at bunker hill I don’t the one for the bar keeper to get his dads hat back but I can’t find anymore
just continue the main quest, you'll get it eventually
I love that urge to dislike a video whenever a youtuber brings it up. Just because
How do you get so many supplies?
Wear do you get all the resources? To do this ??
I really need help
Okay, kinda have a few questions if you don't mind me asking.
Are you playing on console or PC?
How do you record the gameplay?
And what microphone do you use?
By the way, totally agree with having a scrappy design. Fallout 4 settlements are meant to have a scrappy design to match the rest of the world.
+Alexis Thomas I'm on console - I use the PS4 recording function. My mic is a Turtle Beach PX11; slightly older now but the sound quality is great.
Hi Davey, just a quick question. When mods come out for console are there any you're looking at?? I know for sure I'm getting a "place in red" mod. :D
Hey, did you know that on the PC version, someone has modded in perfect pieces to fix the walls of the Castle?
+Sentinalh Someone also re-created the NCR ranger armor. PC Master race!
+Sentinalh I've seen - I'm on console, but I'd likely not use them anyhow as if you haven't guessed I do like building things :P
@@norespawns surely not
Do you think you'd ever do a Fallout 4 let's play? I'm sure a lot of people would be interested to see how you play when you're not being an architect
Here's a link to that tutorial just in case you'd like to use it: ua-cam.com/video/tF3lMQhGolM/v-deo.html
It'd be really cool if you could incorporate that trick into one of your builds (like the power armor armory/storage) because even though I (thanks to you, now) consider myself an expert settlement builder, I still haven't found a way to properly utilize this trick into building something that I like enough not to get rid of. And I'm sure you can do a million times better than what I built
Dear Garvey, please stop marking my map.... K thanks. xD
the castle was destroyed by the nukes like everything else wasnt it
I love you Davey, have my children
9:40 dave... buddy... you smoke?! im not trying to be a mom but you know how bad cigarettes!
+Matrix Gamer Well mother you'll be pleased to note that I'm going to be making another attempt at quitting soon - as I don't really enjoy it anymore.
now i fell like a dick but thanks for the reply dave
+Matrix Gamer hehe don't - I'm genuinely going to be quitting soon, as I don't enjoy smoking anymore. Also my comment was in slight jest :)
ok buddy! cant wait for the next castle build
how have you not run out of space
+Clash Of Duty Glitch. Drop all your ranged weapons on the ground, go into workshop mode, and store them. Every time you do your settlement size goes down a little. Retrieve your weapons from the workshop and repeat until it shows as small enough.
The break he takes at 3:30 was so he could do that. See how his bar went from yellow to green there?
+Lytrigian only ranged weapons?
Clash Of Duty Yeah. Doesn't seem to work with melee weapons.
Scrapping the weapons does the same thing, so I've gotten into the habit of scrapping all the enemies' more useless weapons after they attack a settlement just to keep the size down.
I wish you could move the workshop but not delete it

is this on ps4?
Yeah
if you really view all the comments please rely
smiley face =D
+Jake Car the Sup o/
Hello just gonna say keep it up
woow.. im a Dick Head.
The castle is a horrible place to build. It's 7/10ths full when you get there.
Watching in 2018 lol
lol im watcking in 2020 lololololol its not funny
If you watch all of his videos it’s basically the same build style over and over again and again nothing new just the same wooden structures
Sorry for not coding entirely new building items for you mate
@@norespawns you should step outside of your comfort zone and try using different structures as if you would have used the concrete set you could have had made a mid evil looking castle and Nuka world red rocket is a perfect place for the barn set as it looks more like something out of the old west. I make every settlement look unique and different from one another
cool, except this video was made 2-3 months before we even had the DLC that gave us concrete
2nd comment!!!!
+That random youtuber Wow, your 2nd ever youtube comment?! Wow, great for you, you really are coming out of your shell. Next week you'll be wanting to move out of your parent's basement.
+Chillimonz nice
+Chillimonz That made me smile. Nice.
+Chillimonz made me grin :)
I cringe every time you say 'wank'
I put a power generator in side the big room with two door or the armoury
