Eric Ben'et did a version in 1999, with Faith Evans on the chorus. Almost 20yrs after the original. His was a little more RnB with a heavier bass kick. More house party vibe. I'm just 16 years old, in the past I'm K-POP fan turned into 70s & 80s enthusiast, I loved to listen this song, specially TOTO band is one of my favorite, and Jeff Porcaro is such an amazing drummer, Steve Lukather so much loved her voice
@@Kallah_DaughterOfYAHUAH You may have come from that version (I'd agree it's also great) but this is the original from TOTO and it's probably the reason why Faith and Eric decided to do their version together because it's so smokin' good!
Toto has always been very popular in The Netherlands. You can hear songs from them on Dutch radio every day. Especially Stop Loving You that made number 2 in the charts back in '88. But Georgy Porgy is also my absolute favorite Toto song!
Not really. Disco & 70s style R&B were approaching their height of popularity when this album came out. However, Georgy Porgy is one of the best tunes ever released in the genre, and made Toto's superb debut album even more eclectic. 👍👍 (I couldn't stand most disco...generally it was extremely dumbed-down R&B....but I loved this tune from the moment I first heard it!)
The drummer played on hundreds of 70s/80s hits and sountracks. He was a "one take" drummer and studios loved him. See Thriller album, Madonna, etc etc etc.
I am only 35 y.o. but I love Toto, and know more than just 3 main songs that everyone knows, mainly impart because my parents listened to a variety of "non-hits" from the 60s through 80s on any road trips while growing up. I would say Toto is very underrated in the 21st century and people my age and younger are really missing out on amazing band!
40 plus million records and armsfull of grammys isnt exactly underrated. Then consider the studio work of Jeff and Lukather. These guys were and are consumate pros and artists that everyone in modern music wanted to play with.
You are right on point. I didn't know that this song was by toto and to top it off didn't know Cheryl Lynn song the hook . I was walking in to Target this morning and heard this blasting and immediately start bobbing my head
The best band of the best musicians on this planet!! The Porcaro brothers, Steve Lukather, David Hungate, Bobby Kimball, no better mix of players to ever put a band together. TOTO, you ROCK!!
I love all members of the band, Steve Lukather just has some of my favorite vocals. Take nothing away from any of the other singers, or instrumentalists, Luke just rocks in every ways as a singer and guitarist. Just my 2 cents.
+Michael Ackerman I agree...This group of session musicians know how to write great music and play with precision and grace. Luke is one of the best guitar players on the planet. I watch the Toto Live in Poland 35th anniversary concert all the time...It showcases great music, musicianship, and great vocals as well!
Wtf! Im 35 and all the time I thought this song was from a black group, had no idea it was from the mega awesome Toto, a very pleasant surprise. Those guys had soul for dayssssss
Sad , traumatic sort of thing to say. He's not a scoundrel. He just has a need to consume her. He denies it, but he is. A systematic scoundrel. That is why the girls are crying.
I always felt Toto's genius was great players serving the song and nobody overplaying. Certain bands have skilled players that felt like every song was a talent show. Anyone in this band could be first call session players, yet nobody stood out. Intentionally imo. Made for really, really great songs.
Toto, sempre uma excelente Banda de músicos feras, da prazer em assistir os vídeos e ouvir as bem elaboradas canções deles. Parabéns pelo belo trabalho musical.
@@lalaloolooOr because older generations (you) refuse to go out and seek the music that people ACTUALLY listen to. Do you really think people actually listen to the radio? I can answer that question for you. Nobody actually listens to what's played on the radio. Everybody agrees it sucks. Want an example of a good band thats on the new side? Greta Van Fleet. Want another? Look at Mac DeMarco. Tool is pretty good too, though they're 2000s. Tame Impala is pretty damn good too. Look it up yourself. Don't just say "lol the kids are stupid." Hell, boomers (the "best generation" apparently) raised the newer gens. If anything, they should be better, unless you're saying boomers are a failure and did a shit job at raising their kids.

Yes, it was. I played it many nights on my FM Radio Program. We loved Cheryl Lynn doing the Backgrounds, plus TOTO were from Rocky Hill, CT. - So, CT Stations really pushed this one.
NOW THIS IS MUSIC! Pure MAGIC.....I was 12 in 1978 and I heard this ALOT on the radio and then finally my dad bought the Album cassette and played this song on the stereo at home.....Brings back great family memories.... :)
Where Jeff Porcaro shines is in his masterclass ability to play in service of a song. That's why he wouldn't solo. His tracks , groove and superb feel where all to serve the music. If it was on a Toto song or a MJ track. If it was Steely or the many others gigs he played in the studio. That ability makes him one of the greats.
He was definitely one of the greats, and his Dad was a super class act musician as well. They left CT to go to CA where they made it big...Such a great musical family. Recently just losing Dad Porcaro Joe.
If this music was only on top again now--soft, love rock....This, & following generations, have missed out on such a great Era. Hope it comes back for them, & all of us ❤
I guess you never heard the version with Eric Benet and Faith Evans. Evans ties Cheryl Lynn but Eric Benet blows this guy out the water on vocals and the track is better. some covers actually outdo originals. It' rare, but his is one case.

The song "Georgy Porgy" was released as a single on April 1979. It was included on Toto's self-titled debut album in 1978. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 (number 48) as well as on both the R&B (number 18) and Dance (number 80) charts. Although not a big hit, it was a favorite of mine. In 1999, a cover version by Eric Benet and Faith Evans was released and it reached #6 on Dance, #15 in R&B and #55 on Billboard Hot 100. TOTO is an American rock band formed in 1977 in Los Angeles. Widely known for the Top 5 hits "Hold the Line", "Rosanna", and "Africa." Toto has released 14 studio albums, and has sold over 40 million records worldwide. The group has been honored with several Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2009

Yes, we know how MTV got down in those days, Herbie Hancock, wasn't even allowed to be in his own video on that show!
White people rule the roost, back in those days, but I still watched it, I know the racist history now.😟 I'm pretty sure you're not ignorant of the reason why Michael Jackson was played on MTV? 🤔
I'm just 16 years old, in the past I'm K-POP fan turned into 70s & 80s enthusiast, I loved to listen this song, specially TOTO band is one of my favorite, and Jeff Porcaro is such an amazing drummer, Steve Lukather so much loved her voice
You can be both Kpop and Toto fan!! enjoy all the music you like and have fun!!! 🙌🏻
This was 1978 Love 70s music and 70s bands
This song and "Hold the Line" are my two faves of theirs.

Same here!! I listen to kpop and 70s, 80s nothing wrong with exploring different genres that you like!
It can't be overstated how good this band is. The best of the best at every position
Love Toto and This Song 🎶 Still Listening in 2024
Eu adoro essa música também!
Absolutely me 2
Love it too ❤ a timeless classic
Right here with you
Absolutely!!!! Listening right now!!!!😃👍🏼
2:40 look at Jeff when Luke makes the note with such a prideful smile. That was an amazing bond. Unreal band.
2023 and this song is pure R&B Goodness today and yesterday...Timeless Perfection
Ok. Lol cuz I’m here from the Eric Benet and Faith Evans version
@@Kallah_DaughterOfYAHUAH You may have come from that version (I'd agree it's also great) but this is the original from TOTO and it's probably the reason why Faith and Eric decided to do their version together because it's so smokin' good!
@@paultoy9611 yeah that’s what I said. I’m here because of the later version of the song.
absolutely😍
I thought Eric Bonnet and Faith Evans created this song, I was deceived 😂😂😂
Toto: Georgy Porgy
Release Date: April 1979 (45 years)
Wow
Toto actually released "Georgy Porgy" on November the 10th of 1978.
And it STILL sounds better than most garbage out today
I remember this song coming out in '78. Doesn't matter anyway. It was a hit in my book. Loved the smoothness of the music.
I was 5❤️
Toto is one of the most UNDERRATED bands of the last 50 years, change my mind...
Toto has always been very popular in The Netherlands. You can hear songs from them on Dutch radio every day. Especially Stop Loving You that made number 2 in the charts back in '88. But Georgy Porgy is also my absolute favorite Toto song!
Some tracks/songs age like fine wine. This is one of them. 😎😎😇😇🤩🤩
Toto and this hit was Waaaaaay ahead of their time.
Who´s here in 2024 and loves this song as much as I do?
Love this song!
Me! 🙋♀️
Eu ouço todos os dias .
Moi 😻🤓🌞
Never get tired of hearing this one...a classic! : )
Whoever the drummer is, he's freaking killing it. His timing and rhythm is crazy.
It was the fabulous Jeff Porcaro, the best!
@@angelarodrigo2275 Jeff Porcaro is plays drums Steve Porcaro plays synthetiser
@@midnight.blue42 yep
The drummer played on hundreds of 70s/80s hits and sountracks. He was a "one take" drummer and studios loved him. See Thriller album, Madonna, etc etc etc.
"THAT" drummer is The Man, The Myth, The Legend......Jeff Porcaro!!!!!!
This band remains one of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame biggest snubs. Been eligible 24 years.

These guys were and are consumate pros and artists that everyone in modern music wanted to play with.
and the remaining members are still at it and sound great.
I am so obsessed with his voice. Damn i love this song. Such a groove!
ME TOO
X 3❤❤
You are right on point. I didn't know that this song was by toto and to top it off didn't know Cheryl Lynn song the hook . I was walking in to Target this morning and heard this blasting and immediately start bobbing my head
I love how the drummer is mouthing “yes” when the lead singer Steve is belting so sweet supporting fellow band members ❤
Hello how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here
I love that moment in this song as well!
big shit eatin grin on jeffs face too. He's like "nailed it".
The best band of the best musicians on this planet!! The Porcaro brothers, Steve Lukather, David Hungate, Bobby Kimball, no better mix of players to ever put a band together. TOTO, you ROCK!!
Michael Ackerman Don't forget keyboard player David Paich. He founded Toto with Jeff Porcaro, and he wrote hits like Rosanna, Africa and Pamela.
I love all members of the band, Steve Lukather just has some of my favorite vocals. Take nothing away from any of the other singers, or instrumentalists, Luke just rocks in every ways as a singer and guitarist. Just my 2 cents.
Michael Ackerman Mike your absolutely right one of greatest under rated vocalist
Michael Ackerman he's naturally a great singer and can make a guitar sing too
+Michael Ackerman I agree...This group of session musicians know how to write great music and play with precision and grace. Luke is one of the best guitar players on the planet. I watch the Toto Live in Poland 35th anniversary concert all the time...It showcases great music, musicianship, and great vocals as well!
That is the voice of an angel
Wtf! Im 35 and all the time I thought this song was from a black group, had no idea it was from the mega awesome Toto, a very pleasant surprise. Those guys had soul for dayssssss
@N how? If anything it's a complement 🤣
So did I! Live long and prosper, y’all!
Lol I’m 35 also and looove this song and just found out by YouTubing it that they were white … like Bobby Caldwell which I found out like 8 years ago
You thought it was side effects song they remade it a year after Toto put it out . Toto 1979 side effect 1980 Mc lyte version 1991.
Today I'm 25 yrs old and I grew with this band. I'm appreciate when my dad showed me this kind of music, specially this theme.
One of the best song ever. So smooth, so sexy, so chill, paradise for ears.
Well said!
No wonder I was so cool in high school, I used to listen to this on the way to school. I couldn't help it! Lol
Paraíso para los oídos, la mejor definición de este tema.
a song to make love to your old lady
Paradise for ears...so true
Toto is straight jiggin with this one! Definitely needs to be in the Rock n Roll HOF!!!! Hands down!!!!!
"I'm not so systematic, it's just that I'm an addict for your LOVE!" What a great line!
And the way he releases vocally is the way I want to release with the one I love. She is mine whoever she is.
They literally were first call session players
Toto, sempre uma excelente Banda de músicos feras, da prazer em assistir os vídeos e ouvir as bem elaboradas canções deles. Parabéns pelo belo trabalho musical.
Jeff Porcaro was a prolific session player on a ton of hits.
The bassline of this song is superb
Toto's best song
A certified groove
You have to love how UA-cam is the closest thing to a time machine

How in the world aren't TOTO in the rock and roll hall of fame !!! Absolutely ridiculous.
Because they are enigmatic!
Why OH WHY can't we have music like this anymore! 😪
oh it’s definitely out there somewhere, just not as main stream as it was back in the day
Because the generations are getting stupider
@@lalaloolooOr because older generations (you) refuse to go out and seek the music that people ACTUALLY listen to. Do you really think people actually listen to the radio? I can answer that question for you. Nobody actually listens to what's played on the radio. Everybody agrees it sucks.
Want an example of a good band thats on the new side? Greta Van Fleet. Want another? Look at Mac DeMarco. Tool is pretty good too, though they're 2000s. Tame Impala is pretty damn good too.
Look it up yourself. Don't just say "lol the kids are stupid."
Hell, boomers (the "best generation" apparently) raised the newer gens. If anything, they should be better, unless you're saying boomers are a failure and did a shit job at raising their kids.

I guess you could say they have your "toto" respect? 🤣
You can tell they poured their heart and soul into this song. They were all amazing. I remember being 15 when this song first came on the radio. It was an under rated band but they made magic. Beautiful work of art. I love this song. I ❤️ Toto

My so favorite song after all these years!!! I am 63, a widow, a 70’s child , and I love love love this song! I know a few Georgie Porgy’s!
That bass line!! Simple but on point!!
Several renditions, but the original is always best. Who’s listening in 2019? This was played on the black radio stations.
Yes, it was. I played it many nights on my FM Radio Program. We loved Cheryl Lynn doing the Backgrounds, plus TOTO were from Rocky Hill, CT. - So, CT Stations really pushed this one.
Over here!!!
They used to play that on the smooth jazz station in New Orleans Sunday mornings.
Connie Garrett When did this come out Connie?
Yes! This is 1 of a few to make it on the soul stations. "Blue Eyed Soul"
NOW THIS IS MUSIC! Pure MAGIC.....I was 12 in 1978 and I heard this ALOT on the radio and then finally my dad bought the Album cassette and played this song on the stereo at home.....Brings back great family memories.... :)
Easily one of the best songs of all time! Perfect!
Funk music at its best. My favorite Toto jam.
One Of The Greatest Compositions Of The Last 50 Years.
Excellent observation.Thank you.
If this music was only on top again now--soft, love rock....This, & following generations, have missed out on such a great Era. Hope it comes back for them, & all of us ❤
you know. this was one of the most awesome songs ever done. there were never be a song like this ever in history.
It's a perfect song. There's nothing that could be improved or changed. Perfect beat, sounds, voice, ...
Listen to Eric Benet and Faith Evans version
I guess you never heard the version with Eric Benet and Faith Evans. Evans ties Cheryl Lynn but Eric Benet blows this guy out the water on vocals and the track is better. some covers actually outdo originals. It' rare, but his is one case.
@@realitycheck5311 nahh both are good but Steve is just a god of vocals and guitar
@@realitycheck5311 Toto created it. This version is killer. I guess the cover is more "modern black style" which I`ll pass on. Can`t stand modern music.

And didn't they do the soundtrack for Dune?
Yes,they did

The song "Georgy Porgy" was released as a single on April 1979. It was included on Toto's self-titled debut album in 1978. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 (number 48) as well as on both the R&B (number 18) and Dance (number 80) charts. Although not a big hit, it was a favorite of mine. In 1999, a cover version by Eric Benet and Faith Evans was released and it reached #6 on Dance, #15 in R&B and #55 on Billboard Hot 100.
