  • Nearing extinction is a rather heavy reality for the Guam Kingfisher many know as the sihek. This beautiful creature has been forced into captivity since the 1980s - but there is now a chance we could one day soon hear them back in the wild.

    why not Rota ??????? We have no snakes here !!! our King Fishers are doing fine.We also have Wildlife people on island year round protecting and monitoring the Mariana Bat.

      Maybe the King Fisher on Rota is a different subspecies. So they don´t want the two different subspecies to mix as the result would be hybrids. Antoher theory is that they want to make the species more resistant by releasing them on different islands instead of one songle island.
