The one thing I don't like about self steering systems is that you need to keep as much attention as when you are driving (even on the Teslas). The self steering (self driving) will expect you to take back control at any time without notice. On top of that I need to look ahead more than I normally would while I am driving. I feel like supervising a learner driver. Until I can let the car drive itself without me having to take control In a hurry I probably won't use it.
I just treat it as regular cruise control with extra safety measures. I use the MG Pilot on motorways exclusively. It loses lanes occasionally, and there is absolutely no audible alarm or anything. You feel it especially in turns, the steering wheel just suddenly stops pulling in the direction of the turn. But after 3 months of driving mine, I can already anticipate where it will lose sight by the state of the lanes and other road markings. I tried using this in traffic jams, and while it does work, it comes very close to the car in front before fully stopping for my comfort. I just hope comma.ai guys start supporting the MG ZS some time in the future.
We have the MGZSEV and the Tesla Model 3 SR+ and only one is rock solid trustworthy on a motorway. Our MG will happily cross into the next/opposite lane; in particular if the camber favours drift to the right.
@@davidpearn5925 the question is this. According to the manual, can I put the car in self drive and watch a video or play on my phone. If the answer is no (which I am sure it is no) then I don't see the point. For me driving happens automatically. I don't need to think about it. If I have to pay attention and take back control of the car at any time without notice then for me it is more stressful than driving my self. I have tried a Tesla self driving and I feel the same amount of stress as supervising a learner driver. I have to look further ahead than I would if I drive my self to make sure I have enough time to take action if the self driving (or learner driver) makes the wrong decision or needs help. I have no problems having to take back control of the car as long as I can take say 20sec from when they car says take control an I take control.
@@franciscoshi1968 well I don’t live in a big city now and the Tesla on motorways is perfect for counting the cattle. Costs a bit more but being all-inclusive makes it numero uno for long boring motorway travel.
@@dgurevich1 I have tried using it as cruise control but I find that it is never where I want to be in the lane. It feels either like I am in a rut or some one is holding the steering wheel. Some times there is a car next to me so I will try to move a little away (not quite in the center) and the car pushes back or I see something on the side of the road so I move a little away from the edge. Unfortunately when it comes to steering I think is either the car is in full control or the driver is in full control. I don't think you can have both at the same time. It is essentially like having two people holding the steering wheel and each one trying to guess if the other is going to do the right thing. Each one will have a slightly different solution. It has nothing to do with how good the system is. It has to do with the human being ultimately responsible for the car. If the human lets the car drive but the human still needs to take control at any time what will happen is the human will get used to the car driving, the attention lowers (your brain will automatically pay less attention without you being aware of it) When the car hands control back you have to first realise you need to take control back. You then need to asses the situation and decide what action to take. By this time you have lost enough time that the situation can be very dangerous if not unrecoverable. I am not opposed to self driving I just think we are getting into dangerous territory by having systems that are almost good enough.
Hi thanks for another great video. "ACC Set" stands for Adaptive Cruise Control Set. And as another comment said, one quick flick up or down of the ACC stalk increments by 5 km each time. Apparently two quick flicks up or down also works for 10 kph increments.
Hi ,I'm enjoying your videos and look forward to seeing the next ones as they are very informative.I live in the UK and Also own MG zs ev exclusive.im realy interested in the dash mat in your car as it can get very hot when the sun is out and I would like to protect my dash board. Is it possible you can send me a link as to where I can buy one from. Thanks in advance and stay safe.Kind regards GrahamToyn.
Hi Graham accross the channel, I have that dashboard mat too and very happy with it, looking good (better), less hot when touch the dashbord and no reflections. Bought it at ali express - nl.aliexpress.com/item/4000369356892.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dPKVkK4 for MG ZS without the EV. @@roversd1info thanks Roversed for the info,I tried on eBay ,there was only one seller although he advertised a mat for the mg zs he said it's not suitable for or the electric ev.I can't see why as they share the same dash layout as the petrol version.
Hi Graham, thanks for watching and the comment. Good to hear your enjoying the ZS EV and yes the dash mates a good for protection and also look in the cabin. Here's the link to MG Australia's accessories page we ordered through mgmotor.com.au/owners/accessories/mg-zsev/. Surely UK dealers could also get them. Maybe also try Ebay www.ebay.com.au/itm/184349446785?epid=3040049725&hash=item2aec155281:g:8YcAAOSwO2Ze~XVX. Cheers and good luck.
Hi John, thanks for watching and the questions. Strictly speaking, no! MG Pilot is actually the collective name for all the driver assistance features but most people only think of it as the semi-autonomous driving part. Therefore my experiance has been MG Pilot needs activated, via the menu screen, to use any of the assistance features including ACC. I hope that helps. Also have a look at mg.co.uk/behind-the-wheel/incar-technology/what-is-mg-pilot/
Great video, thanks Chris, The MG cruise control and pilot seemed fairly complicated from the book. So we haven't tried it. I did think maybe your fuel consumption may have been up a bit, not just because of the head wind, as the cruise control does not use regen. My wife likes the dash mat, looks like I might have to get one. We love our MG , do fun to drive 😄
It's actually easier in reality than it sounds in the manual, just give it a go on a quiet stretch of road. We're aiming to do a video on all the accessories we're added but yes the dash mat is a good one. Not bad price either for genuine mgmotor.com.au/owners/accessories/mg-zsev/
Hello down there, just came back from a 300 km trip and consumption also was 16 kWh/100km. Alhough I more like to say that it is 6,2 km per kWh. BTW, you use abbreviation klms instead of (as usual in holland) kms. The k for thousands and the m for meters. Like kWatt for a thousand watt. For me the L is superflous. And I have a question, I have a little book about the navigation system but would love to have it digital (pdf form). Any idea where I can download it ? Not in England nor the Netherlands. Thanks in advance and for you knowledgeable videos.
Hi Rover, thanks for watching and the comment. Yes, you see all sorts in abbreviations but your logic makes sense. Good question on the owners manual. I'm not aware of anything so have asked MG and I will let you know when I get an answer.
I am not sure whether my Pilot will work as the dealer put a full sized front number plate on. I am getting a slimline plate as no questions are better than a good answer. Did you get the EZ dash cover from your dealer?
Hi Tim, we have a full sized Qld number plate and no issues with Pilot. Yes the dash cover is standard MG accessory and wasn't badly priced either, $70-80 from memory.
@@ElectricCarAustralia Thank you. I will make enquiries of my dealer re the dash cover. I think I will get a slimline plate anyway as some posts say there are no problems and others that say there are.
Your videos are great but there’s one thing that perhaps you don’t realise: to set the speed you want when in ACC mode, rather than holding the stalk up or down (which changes speed in one km/hr increments) tap it up or down which changes in 5km/hr increments. It’s quicker, more accurate and safer too as you don’t need to take your eyes off the road as much.
Hi David, thanks for watching and the comment. No, it looks dodgy but it's just the camera distorting it. The alignment from the steering issue fix is ok.
Hi Chris, I forgot to ask, is there any talk of bringing in Road tax in Queensland? We have had it deferred for 5 years in NSW, which is good 👍. The victorians have to pay now, feel sorry for those who bought before July, no rebate for them. They seem to be buying ev inspite of the tax, I was hoping they wouldn't as only incourages other states to introduce the tax sooner.
Hi Rex, thanks for watching and comment. No, current Qld Govt has ruled out a road user tax. With so many benefits of owning an EV even if a road tax was introduced we wouldn't go back :)
Hi Ian, thanks for watching and the comment. I agree on the diesel. We can do over 1,100 kms in our diesel station wagon without a refuel but my stomach and bladder cant. :) So stopping very 250-300kms is generally for personal/ family reasons, we just make sure we plan a stop near a charger. For me the real benefits to driving an EV is improved community health through lower pollution and less reliance on imported fuels but the 2/3 cheaper fuel costs are also good for the hip pocket.
Thanks John, appreciate the feedback. Each video takes between 10 -20 hours to produce so don't want to waste your time or mine making stuff people don't want to watch. I hope you enjoyed others. Cheers
