You know what the best thing is? This little test shows that NONE of these amp-guitar set-ups sounds best, nor worst. They just sound different! And that's a beautiful thing!
The Vox really makes the Strat sing. What a great combo. The other combinations all sounded great, but that was my favorite. Les Paul/Bandmaster, and Tele/Vox sounded killer, too.
05:46 Tele through the AC30 wins my ears here. Couldn't stand that Strat into Bandmaster, I kept tapping my foot on the floor wishing there was a boost pedal somewhere :-)
Hard to compare. Starts off playing Hey Joe on the neck pickup on the Marshall and the Fender then to the bridge and middle pickups as soon as he plays through the Vox. He later plays on the neck pup on the Vox, but has the gain cranked. Like some one else said on this post. They're all great amps and all have their place.
Tele into Vox at 5:47 is really a great sound I look for *-* hahaha! I also think that Fender amp sounds good with Fender guitars, of course! Great comparison video!
A Tele and a Vox is probably the greatest sound in the history of the world. Even a Vox AC10 and a Tele is a glorious sound but when you plug one into an AC30 there is just "something" that happens. It's like sonic magic.
I’ll take a Fender for the great cleans you get from 6L6’s and 6v6’s. Change the preamp tone caps to a pair of .022 to get rid of the “no mids, scooped sound” (so easy to do); and hook it up to a sealed 2x12 or 4x12 cab preferably loaded with Celestions. I owned and worked on a lot of vintage amps and a ‘73 Deluxe Reverb was what I settled on.
I agree. That Marshall is the stand-out and the playing helps too. I've got a '64 AC-30 which I was very lucky to get back in '89 (Roy Goode Cambridge MA.). The sag, responsiveness, genuinely musical overtones and a dazzling kind of complexity that teaches you how to play the guitar. I never need pedals, not with that amp. Years ago whenever I messed with pedals in front of it it was always a case of gilding the lily. Forget The Beatles! This amp nails the early Yardbirds sound! Of course Jeff Beck used a very-specific electric shaver-sounding Hurst-made 'MK1 Tone Bender' with his AC-30 for his trademark feedback/fuzz sound but emulating his playing is a little beyond me so I never felt compelled to go out and get a proper MK1 'Bender'. There's not too much point for me to have one. Meanwhile I am waiting to get my blackface Bassman back from the shop. The Bassman is my tech's particular territory so he's doing one of his particular 'Bassman mods' to it which I believe will make it a more controllable thus more versatile 50watt amp. I plan to get a repro Tremolux cab from Mojotone for slightly-easier gigging and use the vintage original 2x12 for recording at home. Carr makes their 'Pedal Killer' amp. I never really liked building a guitar sound with 9V batteries. Obviously pedals can be great but I'm always trying to get away from batteries. Yet everybody try the Joyo 'AC TONE'. I will admit it's a truly remarkable leave-on effect. It was made to emulate the sound of an AC-30. This pedal is cheap but very useful and also a lot of fun. I like to use one with my grab and go Peavey 'Backstage 30'. It's like night and day with an otherwise meh-sounding amp. The 'Bluesbreaker' is really outstanding here. There are a lot of affordable high-quality Bluesbreaker and lower-wattage Marshall clones out there. Hmmmmmmm....
I'm partial to the Marshall when it comes to hotter tones, but each amp has it's application and appointments that make them shine. All three amps have outstanding tones that can really take one back or send ya screaming into the future. Then of course one must take into account which one of those amazing axes happens to be doing the singing. Great video brother. Both thumbs way way up! Thank you for sharing.
Marshall is the power stage for Fender’s copy (bad copy) but that “snot” attracts guitarists. The Vox is made with 4XEL84 tubes, the amplifier works in Class A, it has no negative feedback, so the Vox has a different sound from those three.
Great amp trio. for "noodlin around". The Vox AC 30 seems to standout especially with the Strat. The 63 Bandmaster seems like it wants to have more volume to push the tubes. The Marshall blues breaker is the ticket for blues style, its got the balls, especially when matched up with the LP.
He had the Bandmaster's volume at 6. That is 'ungodly-window-shatteringly loud'. Dimed hurts your ears even with earplugs in. There was volume! They were just made to 'always' stay clean. I have a '68, and it barely breaks up when dimed. They are all excellent amplifiers!
Vox had the most depth in my opinion. The Vox sounds great clean or with it's natural dirt from pushing the circuit. Not a fair comparison though. If it was a 1964 and later Vox, he would of had the Top Boost circuit, which would of creamed these other amps from the start. All great amps for sure. But Vox has it.
Vox is throatier spongier and creamier,Fender Marshall punchier and edgier with more attack.Vox with tele is a great blend of cut/attack and creaminess-the most complex tones with that combo imho.
Would have liked to hear that Fender with a creamback or blueback single 12" - Felt it lacked oomph but loved the tone. The VOX AC30 meh, I've always preferred the AC15. That bluesbreaker, very surprised it was an 89' thought it had a very vintage tone of years prior...
I felt the same way interesting enough. I had a 65 Bandmaster in my younger days and it came alive when cranked up. It was designed for bands that played in larger venues, so the output tubes were biased to be driven hard.
IMO: 1. Strat + Marshall = has an unique character, I know this personally because I have played strat through a marshall 2. Strat + Vox = best tone for Solo, sounds very full and cutting in the mix 3. Tele + Vox = has its own character, very Twangy, I hope I can own a tele one day!
Man you polish guys are pretty crazy good musicians! Well done! I would have liked to have heard that 68 custom deluxe in the background also though...
Id say my fav was the Les Paul in front of the Bandmaster. Its just a good funky boogie sound, more organic for the purists out there. Im just a Fender man, i have had quite a few, but Bandmaster & Bassman both sound best dialed back to around 5 with a good booster in front.
Maybe it's just me, but it would have been more easy to compare the sounds if he had stayed on the same pickup settings for all three amps for each section of the song. It's probably a matter of editing. If you really do want to present how different the amps are, you'd need to duplicate the song sections played back to back...with the same settings before moving on to another section. He's on the neck pickup w/the Marshall for the first part of the intro riff, then the Fender, and although the difference is subtle, it is definitely discernible. By the third intro riff, he hasn't just switched to the Vox, but he's also playing with the bridge and middle pickup on. I would have really liked to hear that same section back to back with the other two...with the pickup selector in the same place!!!
Generally speaking , I'm a Vox man and dislike Marshall too high gain. But in this demo, the bluesbreaker please me a lot. My AC15 with greenback is close to the bluesbreaker in tone
Marshall always comes up short and flat with its clean sound. Fender sounded nicely compressed and tight. VOX was super middy-fat, a little harsh, not controlled at all.
Lefty question--how is the intonation on your SG? There is an SG that's not available lefty (with P90s and a more rounded neck) that I'm thinking about buying and flipping.
For me it was a real tie between the Marshall and the vox both do their thing oh so nice. Fenders to me,and I know this is weird but sound best in a tweed combo.4 10 even so......
Was hoping to hear the telecaster through the Marshall. Fender amps always sound disappointing to me even though they’ve been a huge part of music history. This Vox was great.
Make sure everyone pays attention to where the pickup selectionnis at because during the vox amp the only parts shown was him on the bridge pickup most of them there was only 1 on the neck and it sounded so much better because the rest were shown on the neck also but with the fender it was only shown om the bridge with the vox and with a fender yoy need to hear the neck or there will be to much treble most of the time and if you noticed when he did use the neck on the vox he switched it right over to the bridge right away not a fair conparison because most of the others were done on the neck so zi mean I would of rsther of heard the video with all of them on the bridge then all on the neck in a row thats the way its supposed to be shown cant compare with mnixing it up that much should of been in a row on the same pickup for each amp def not going to pick an amp based on this video or choose which one is bette rit was to back and forth next time put down what pickup was used and each amp with settings then we can compare you would have to dial in each amp at there best tone then make sure to show each pickup on each amp
1:49 god damnnn this is why I love Vox amps...
tele + vox = magic
gili I agree.
I thought both the Tele and the Strat sounded pretty amazing on that Vox.
I like the Marshall,but i ike the Fender,but i like the Vox...lol Great,great amps and great demo,thanks!
1st: VOX + Strat ( 2:15 guauuuu )
2d: Marshall + SG
3r: Fender + Tele
I agree sir!
That 2:15 neck pickup Vox tone was nasty!!
The tele had the best country tone with the AC30. The Bluesbreaker sounded best with everything else.
Fellow lefty here....GREAT tone, GREAT playing....the Vox DEF sounds the best!!
Voxes only respond well with left handed guitars
Only kidding! Don't throw stones!
Tele into Vox at 5:47 is really a great sound I look for *-* hahaha! I also think that Fender amp sounds good with Fender guitars, of course! Great comparison video!
Tele + Vox AC15/30 is a gold combination, it sounds so great with my AC15. Volume and tone knobs + some overdrive for lead is all you need.
They all sound great. Always a luxury to have so many classical original amps in a studio.
It's incredible that Marshall and Fender are more similar than the Vox. Both are more scooped
Everybody should have this three amps before dying
Own all 3 at the same time...
HAHA
Yep.
A Tele and a Vox is probably the greatest sound in the history of the world. Even a Vox AC10 and a Tele is a glorious sound but when you plug one into an AC30 there is just "something" that happens. It's like sonic magic.
It’s a really great country amp that really gets overlooked. Brad paisley got it though.
I’ll take a Fender for the great cleans you get from 6L6’s and 6v6’s.

Marshall just sounds better than the other 2 but I own all . They all have their place an when to use them.
Great vid ... Bluesbreaker was off the hook -👍

I have a 1965 Bandmaster and it remains very very clean even at almost full volume. Great pedal platform!
Great video! Thanks so much for taking the time to make this :)
Seems to me that every time he played the Vox he switched to the bridge pickup
Tym Johnson second time is on the neck
Where would the world be without Hendrix, McCartney and Cobain?
Lefties rule!
Also, Vox with greenbacks, best Marshall sound ever.
Marshall = The sun , hot
Fender = The moon , cool shine
Vox = The earth , elements
What a great demo! Marshall Bluesbreaker for me, followed by Fender Bandmaster
wow Great sounds! thanks for the great post! all the amps sounded great and u guys did too rock on Sam!
Marshall is the power stage for Fender’s copy (bad copy) but that “snot” attracts guitarists. The Vox is made with 4XEL84 tubes, the amplifier works in Class A, it has no negative feedback, so the Vox has a different sound from those three.
Fender+Marshall sounds better when you are left handed
Marshall was better
That quacky tele in the Vox, oooh! It's all in the pairings, your settings and hands, all are quality gear!
Everything sounds great, and very different. Tons of great tones in here. Good reference.
Best tones on any UA-cam video.........it’s Marshall for me.Great work. Thanks.Mr Sheep
This guy really knows how to use these amps, so many demos are useless
not good, dude keeps on switching pickup positions, neck w one amp, bridge the next, etc.
@@RocknJazzer and your point is?
@@jojo-qx8vo - the point is they are not directly comparable then
progjazzfusion I agree it mucks up the comparison
Great amp trio. for "noodlin around". The Vox AC 30 seems to standout especially with the Strat.

All great amps for sure. But Vox has it.
2:20 I hate when that happens
Strap? Oh, yeah, shit happens.
Vox is throatier spongier and creamier,Fender Marshall punchier and edgier with more attack.Vox with tele is a great blend of cut/attack and creaminess-the most complex tones with that combo imho.
that vox touch response got him smilin
This comparison would be awesome through the same cabinet & speakers.
5:45 for the "creme de la creme". Vox and Tele CAN'T GO WRONG!
Vox all the way!
1.-Marshall
2.-Vox
3.-Fender
IMO
American Guitars, British Amps, the best marriage
Marshall was awesome, but, for my taste, I'd choose the Fender! Greetings from Brazil!
I had a 65 Bandmaster in my younger

Everything sounds good! This bloke really understands the solid body electric.
IMO:
1. Strat + Marshall = has an unique character, I know this personally because I have played strat through a marshall
2. Strat + Vox = best tone for Solo, sounds very full and cutting in the mix
3. Tele + Vox = has its own character, very Twangy, I hope I can own a tele one day!
For me, the Marshal was the front runner, Vox and Fender in second as both are great for different reasons.
Vox
awesome job boys , loved all of them but loved the marshall best of all !
Vox, all the way...great video!
Tele made that amps sound awesome and tasty and it`s harder to pick one.
but with other guitars you can hear the difference.
vox - marshall - fender
That blusebreaker sounded awesome when it was turned up
Magnífic sound for all amps.
bandmaster & bluesbreaker just my preference
all i could deduce from this was that tele is a great blues guitar. I love vox and marshall.
Man you polish guys are pretty crazy good musicians! Well done! I would have liked to have heard that 68 custom deluxe in the background also though...
Marshall solo sounded best IMO.......... nice review !
Very surprising how great was Marshall to my ears in comparison to other amps!
Wouldve really like to have heard them all together.
Id say my fav was the Les Paul in front of the Bandmaster. Its just a good funky boogie sound, more organic for the purists out there. Im just a Fender man, i have had quite a few, but Bandmaster & Bassman both sound best dialed back to around 5 with a good booster in front.
They all sound nice, but which one was the most fun to play?
Nice!! All are so great. I prefer Fender Bandmaster which is least powerful though. In this case Marshall is easiest perform.
Lol I was literally jaw dropped and thought the video was over... then PART 2 ^^
Maybe it's just me, but it would have been more easy to compare the sounds if he had stayed on the same pickup settings for all three amps for each section of the song. I like the fender's sound the most, but the Marshall definitely cuts through the mix the best
Fender / Marshall / Vox are the 3 basic food groups for a well rounded guitarist
the Fender works so well with single coils.. to get that Marshall sound just use some fuzz and roll back ure vol. .. Fender is the White blanket🤗
Marshall always comes up short and flat with its clean sound. Fender sounded nicely compressed and tight. VOX was super middy-fat, a little harsh, not controlled at all.
Oh shit, they all sound incredible but different, I'll have to pick them all. (ME SAYING WITHOUT HAVING THE BUDGET FOR NOT EVEN A 12 INCH SPEAKER)
love the marshall-gosh that sounds good!
THE MARSHALL AND VOX ARE GREAT, ID RATHER COLLECT VINTAGE AMPS THEN HAVE A MODELLING AMP
vegan x much more expensive, much, much more
What’s a modeling amp?
Lefty question--how is the intonation on your SG? There is an SG that's not available lefty (with P90s and a more rounded neck) that I'm thinking about buying and flipping.
Hello from the USA: i love this demo!
Great Comparison! Thank you so much.
Vox. With tele please.
Marshall for lead tone Other two for chord work on Hey Joe All sounded good w/o back track
I love them all. Helps a lot if the player is good,
For me it was a real tie between the Marshall and the vox both do their thing oh so nice. Fenders to me,and I know this is weird but sound best in a tweed combo.4 10 even so......
That tone at 4:45 🤟
This is some quality content, keep on beeing stronk.
All of them sound great But, it's those hands that make the difference.
Marshall wins... hands down...
Fuck, jetzt kann ich mich garnicht mehr für einen zweiten Amp entscheiden.
Toll gespielt und mega präsentiert. Thanks so lot
Housebreaker for overdriven sounds. Torn between Vox and Fender for clean sounds.
Damm dude all amps sounded fucking awesome, but Bluesbreaker makes his own shit and make it awesome.
I'd like to hear it without the pick-up selector being moved around. Especially on the Strat, when it wasn't shown when it was changed.
Good job man! I liked and got subscribe :)
The 3 best amps ever
now you just need an a/b switch to go to the marshall for leads, and the fender for cleans.
👍🇬🇧❤VOX & MARSHALL
I think I prefer the Vox-Amplifier Ac30 gives it a more midrange almost like a wah sound
Was hoping to hear the telecaster through the Marshall. Fender amps always sound disappointing to me even though they’ve been a huge part of music history. This Vox was great.
dude can play! and versatile like a Swiss army knife!
I think I just understood Marshall for the first time and simultaneously just realized why Siegmund doesn't build Vox models...

all about that cranked Marshall boi!
all sounded great but the marshall did it for me gonna have to get one now ...
Awesome video, would have loved to see a plexi in there....and vox wtf? Just couldn't hold its own in there, was shocked actually
Didn't Jimi record it on a Fender Super Reverb?
