Better to leave a sufficient gap to stop in, than rely on reflexes and a good shoulder to use as an escape path.. Or at least buy them dinner and a few drinks if you wanna go up their ass 🤣

23:22 Darling Dr, Pyrmont Not a bike lane, as has no bike lane sign (last time I went down there, plus on Google streetview). Also, the suggestion that it is safe in the green shoulder is misguided. It’s downhill (most cyclists will be travelling fairly fast, probably 30+km/h in the 40km/h zone), full of debris, forces cyclists in a narrow gap between a railing and parked cars, then past a parking/loading area exit (where it’s unsafe to be on the far left side, because many drivers won’t check for bikes on the shoulder before pulling out). The cyclist seemed to have ample room behind it when changing lanes, and was travelling at roughly the same speed as the cars; so there’s no issue regarding giving way. The only offence I saw, is that the cyclist didn’t signal before changing to the right lane… Not exactly worth 35 seconds of clip time.
Hi Mat fyi no that is a bike lane , there are several signs on the lane saying bike lane , one prior at the intersection with the pub on the corner and a sign saying bike lane ends just after the traffic lights , so yes bike and by law must be used not the road and the setup is specifically designed there for rider to us eteh lane the parked cars are on a sperta eroad and no debris clear to us erider just did that to avoid having to slow down and make a sharp left turn in the bike and us eteh road to maintenance speed and swing left , nothing to do with safety , 35 seconds well worth to educate people on the laws and requires of riders to use the roads just like drivers :)
it does but the law states there needs to be a sign with either the word bike or symbol and lane on it at at the start and finish of a bike lane , for it to be legally classed as one and cyclist required to use it , there one does the signs are before and after the part show in the video , but obvious it is one :)
@@ScottsCarcameras On the pub side of the intersection, it is a bicycle path (not lane... there is a difference). That path continues across to the paved area where it becomes a shared path. When re-joining Darling Dr, there is no signage to indicate the shoulder is a bike lane. I agree that the intention was probably to make it a bike lane (based on the bike lane end sign further down the road), but the signage isn't there, so it legally isn't one. Even if it is was bike lane, it's not a requirement to use it if impracticable. The safety issues previously stated are plenty to justify not using it at the base of that hill. Cyclists shouldn't ride within the 'door zone' of parked cars. That is the worst door zone imaginable, as there is nowhere else to go (other than into a railing). In most situations, cyclists at the base of that hill should take the lane until after the parked cars.
Hi FYI NO its a lane its states lane on the signs ! you can see on the google view the sign say "lane " and the end sign saying lane , its a continuous of the same lane that goes back fdw onto the fish markets , re the requirement to use it was practicable , cyclist have no problem riding down roads between traffic with parked cars and jumping onto footpaths , and narrow places , what they did was stupid and illegally , cant have your cake and eat it to :)

Hi Shane fyi you are allowed to change lanes through an intersection , are you under the impression you cant ? and you dont have to slow down wet or not other driver must give way and wait :)
@@ScottsCarcameras I didn't say it was illegal, but it is unsafe to do so- "When travelling straight ahead it is deemed unsafe to change lanes while in the intersection under the Australian Road Rules as developed by the Australian Transport Council in 1999. Darling Dr, Pyrmont
Not a bike lane, as has no bike lane sign (last time I went down there, plus on Google streetview).
Doesn't the picture of a bike painted in the lane indicate that it's a bike lane?

The rule of thumb is that although there are no lane markings in the intersection, the markings present in the lane up to the start of the intersection continue through that intersection, and you are not to cross them." Of course there is no issue with the other drivers having to give way. They were certainly displaying poor judgement.
"

@@ScottsCarcameras Yes, you are correct. I did google it and quoted the first source I found as I am time poor due to running my own business 24/7. So, in that regard I was mislead but, it doesn't diminish the fact that changing lanes in an intersection is unsafe and as previously mentioned above, there are plenty of hazardous practises that aren't yet illegal.
