Thank you so much for this tutorial! It really helped a lot! I was already desperate, thinking I was too dumb for setting up a dcs server but with that tutorial, it‘s so easy!
What should I do if my friend doesn't see the server? I created a server, and I can see it myself, I can join, but a friend can't either by IP or by name.
You will likely have to setup a port forwarding rule on your internet router. By default, traffic trying to get to your PC is blocked. When you launch the web GUI for the server, it will tell you both the public facing IP and the port the server is using. Go into your router and setup a port forward for that port to the internal IP of the PC running DCS Server. (If you've never done this before, just search youtube for port forwarding, you'll find plenty of videos on it)
Is it possible to build a server on a bad notebook this way by hosting a dedicated server? Or does the machine need to be good? I have a laptop and I would like to leave it running on the server so I don't have to use my machine that I use to play games.
Hi, im buy the game 2 week ago, and want to create a server to play with my friends, this is the way? or today 01/2023 have better or another way to do it?

Hey, thx for the tutorial! I can't see any missions in the gui and I dont even have the folder icon when I want to add one. Do you know what the problem might be?
If you're on the server settings page withan empty list of missions. If you click the + icon it should pop up the browser so you can add a mission. If that's not there, you might be on the wrong page or might have a bad version and may need to download the server again
@@thesimulationexperience Was neither of that. I solved it: the problem was, that my Saved Games Folder was on my D drive. Switching it to C drive worked, but I am really unhappy about that.
@@Lorian667 Ah, that's a windows registry issue. Saved games is always stored on the C drive and all other drives are ignored. You can edit the windows registry to move it, but I wouldnt recommend it unless you're familiar with the process. Most tutorials cover moving your documents, downloads, and other shortcuts to a second drive, but most dont cover moving the saved games folder.
You cant mix and match versions unfortunately. You have to both be running open beta or both be playing on steam. Everyone also needs to be on the same version or newer than the server or it wont let you see it or connect.

You can use a VPN to change your IP. You just have to make sure it's fast enough or the server will be extermely slow. You can implement a whitelist or blacklist in addition to a password.
@@thesimulationexperience thanks for the feedback, prior to this I tried using the VPN but no one was able to connect. Do you happen to know where I can find info on the whitelist or blacklist options? Thats new to me. Thanks for the helpful tutorial
@@Bryan-ty8wq I havent done the whitelist but you can implement it on your router if it's sophisticated enough, or you should be able to google it for implementing within DCS. changing the port is usually a good idea but i'd recommend changing it on the port forwarding. it's not a bad idea to do it in the server as well though.
