The Melvins Social Media Account has announced that only days before their departure for a lengthy tour, drummer Dale Crover will be replaced by fill-in drummer Coady Willis. The reason for their change of lineup is due to an emergency spinal surgery on member, Dale Crover. The Melvins have released a couple statements for fans in which you will find within this video. It does sound serious as they said the surgery could not be postponed & that Crover was being prepared for the surgery as they typed their public statements.

I know I can trust you more than Kurt Loder in 1994 with that intro. I saw the Melvins with Down years ago and it was the loudest show I have ever heard. I was told by literally everyone I know NOT to have back surgery because of my injury because it only makes whatever it is worse.. This must be really bad.
Back surgery is definitely scary.
I hope Dale recovers soon. Melvins are one of my very favorite bands. Luckily Coady is no slouch and will do a fantastic job filling in...but I really hope Dale will be okay!! I'm glad I had a chance to see him performing with Melvins Lite; it was easily the highlight of my teenage years.
I was dealing with a herniated disc in my back for a couple years. One day in 2009 I woke up and my feet were numb. I had ruptured the disc. Went to my doctor immediately, and was told I had to have emergency spinal surgery or lose use of my legs. It was very unpleasant. Took months to recover.
Found myself in similar circumstances in 2011. Cauda Equina Syndrome caused by a herniated disc. I hope you’re doing well, now. ❤ Sending my best good wishes to Dale. ❤️

Emergency spinal surgery usually has something to do with spinal fluid. Could be an accident, or it just could be a weird leakage. It happened to one of my best friends about 15 years ago.

Dale. One. The. Best. Seen. Then. Before
I’ve had six spinal surgeries from degenerative disc disease. I had 3 bulging discs from sciatica. You do alll you can before it gets to the emergency phase. I had S1, L4, L3 (lower spine tail bone) pain. It radiates all the way down your left leg into your foot. It’s difficult to even go to the bathroom. It’s the worst pain in the world! You gotta learn to walk again, you need help bathing, getting dressed…it’s awful. I have metal bolts and plates where by discs used to be. I’ve been through this since 2011 and at first I was getting cortisone injections for the pain and meds, and was told I needed surgery back then but my son was only 8yo, I worked as a wedding planner more than full time, and was in college. I was separated from my sons father so bills etc…were on me. Then it got worse and by 2016 I had no choice but to leave work. I graduated college so that was ok, but my boy was still young. I had my first surgery 2017 and was in the hospital 5?days after that. The problem with spine surgery is depending on how severe it’s gotten…you have more than one. I’ve had six and I’m still not better. I don’t recommend spine surgery for anyone! Take care of your back!!!!! 🤍
For some clarity, they often perform emergency spinal surgery when compressed discs cause problems with other functions, like someone becomes unable to hold their bladder or feel their lower regions. This would be the most common reason for emergency spinal surgery, they certainly don't do it for anything trivial.

Spinal fusions happen every hour, every day. An MRI probably shows a lack of spinal fluid & he needs a fusion. He’s not doing it because he’s in terrible pain, but because he has a risk of paralysis. He could make a full recovery.

It's probably a long-term thing that's suddenly worsened. They had to cancel a European tour a few years ago due to Dale's back problems.

Look into Loves' former PA memoir Give Me A Xanax. She describes Love writing phoney, psycho letters to an ex. She was writing as someone else and it was expertly done. Love got the book banned but I was still able to read a pdf of the press intro or highlights
Dale's a legend but Coady kills it. Saw a Big Business/Melvins show a while back, it was wild.
The comments on their Facebook post is turned off. From my end it looks like there was only one comment on that post and it was by then. Looks like a link to the House of blues or something. Hope Crover recovers and can get back to what he loves doing. In my personal opinion he is in the league of all the great drummers of all time. I have been to two different concerts just to see them open. Good well soon dude.

Check out Cody Willises band Murder city Devils! They were a Seattle band that rocked ( early on anyways.)

Obviously first and foremost concern is Dales health. I don’t mean this as a criticism of Willis but it’s just not going to b the same thing, Dales a very special breed.
