Cutting sogas from a disc of rawhide.

Part 3 of string preparation. How I cut a rawhide disc into a wider strip from which I cut strings to braid with later. A video I did some years ago for the Rawhiders Gathering Facebook group. The video is not HD, but might be sparking some ideas for rawhide braiders seeing how I do it

I cut strings from Kangaroo raw hide, 50cms is about the maximum disc size, so cutting from centre to outside for less waste is best. A lace cutter would turn your coasters into usable string.

100% agree with you on the lace cutter and I use it that way. For kangaroo rawhide, which I myself only use for button string, I don't cut a disc. I clean up the edges of a hide and cut a soga from the outside in.
