Brilliant video. Just helped me repair a completely broken DTC A6. Do You know where to buy those tiny plastic washers? I had to swap over like you but I would like to replace them. I want to keep the machine

Greetings, I have a DTC-59es and it has a fault, it does not load the cassette and also the drum is active all the time, can you tell me if you have had this fault?

Hi. If drum is spinning all the time, that means DAT switch is dirty or broken, usually this switch is turned ON when tape is loaded inside. But that's only one assumption ...

Hi, nice video, I recently came across a Sony DTC-57ES in good condition. However, the previous owner kept in storage for a long time and and the head is sticky, it doesn't spin freely. i tried everything, even to the point where i sprayed WD-40. Still no luck. I can see when I put the tape in the head is trying to spin and gives up and it prompt with the CAUTION light. Do you have any suggestion as to what i should do? or do you have a spare head (same head as in the unit of your video) that you would sell for me? Please help as this is my first ever DAT deck and its a ES model which i really wanna have fixed. Please reply.

First, try to clean that WD40 as much as you can with cotton swabs, it was a really bad move... but maybe you can save dat deck. I think head is not the problem at all, it's stickiness of the gears that were greased long time ago, and that grease is grease no more, it's a rock. You should watch some of the videos from 12voltvids how to clean gears (ua-cam.com/users/12voltvids) click on search channel and type DAT. He did couple of videos on this topic. I don't have DAT head to sell, sorry.

Changing the drum requires a test tape and
      oscilloscope as far as I
      have read on the web.
