Great video thank you. I don't think I have ever seen footage of Wallis and Futuna (sp?). I think those worms that jump back into their shells when you disturb them are tunicate tube worms. And the dye in the water was fascinating, because it is unlike squid or octopus ink (usually black in my limited experience). Then you mentioned a shell fish as the source - it might be one of the murex family because of the colour of the ink. We have those shellfish in Aotearoa as well, but they are most famous in the Mediterranean because they were the source of the dye used to colour the togas of the Roman imperial family - Imperial Purple. That is from an increasingly unreliable memory on my part, so don't take it as gospel - it might though give you a steer on what to look for in the shellfish books! Actually, if you look up Purple on Wikipedia (which I have just done!) you will get chapter and verse on what I am rabbiting on about. Not a million miles away from accuracy...

Wow thanks for the information! I did think that that ink must have been used by humans somewhere. Beautiful colour!
We also didn’t find a lot about Wallis and feel very lucky to have visited this unique place.
