- Full documentary of my 4-2-23 MDT risk chase around the Cincinnati area.
First possible tornado was first witnessed west of 287 in Burlington, KY, it crossed 287 moving East. We kept up on 18 and directly intercepted the circulation on I-71.
Second tornado was first witnessed WSW of Bentonville, OH and tracked along 136 before it occluded and roped out to the north.

Imagine being outside catching a glimpse of a tornado approaching dangerously close to you, just to find your storm shelter door is locked. 🌪️
Gives meaning to rain wrapped. You just dont see anything but rain coming at you. I see why so many people are caught off guard by these monsters.
I remember 4 F-1 tornadoes hit Glenford Ohio in 1984 when I was 13 years old. My family was at my dad's parent's house for a family reunion in New Concord Ohio. My dad's younger brother arrived late due to having to outrun them. Just the shire terror in him when he arrived was telling enough. He told us that he'd just missed being caught up in them when the 4 met and completely destroyed a church that sat on the hill over looking the village. The next morning we went out to look at the damage one caused just 100 or so yards behind our farmhouse and you could see the path it made in the woods. It just missed our home but did cause some damage to the roofing and wood siding. The tin roof on the barn was pulled back like a tin can. Thankfully our landlord's live stock of cows, pigs and one horse were not out in the pasture / woods behind our home at the time when the one went through or they'd all been hurt or killed. The sad thing is, I know they hit our village because of the evidence of the major damage they left behind and witness accounts, even our surrounding city news stations came out the next day to film. I've tried to look up any accounts on it and nothing. It's like it never happened. I know our neighbors and my uncle wouldn't make this up. The evidence was very real. The church was leveled, a one-car bridge just down the hill was moved to where it would never be usable again. The K-3 school building lost its roof, the old Glenford High school (the 4-6 grade) building suffered a lot of damage. Yet, there's nothing. Only thing mentioned happened in the 1970s. That event was life changing for our village. The only thing found of that church was the church bell was found in tact and untouched in the basement. No one was killed during that event but some were caught off guard and injured but not one fatality. Not even to live stock. I wish I could find coverage of it. It's literally a part of my childhood that my home and my family were spared because we weren't home at that very moment.
That roar is a terrifying sound at 2am when you live in a camper then a full 2 minutes later the warning is issued confirming it and your only shelter is a flooded ravine and 3 ft metal culvert 130 feet away with constant lightning hitting very near that spot. In fact, 3 trees in a group were struck and killed about 30 feet from the culvert as this was happening. Luckily the tornado was just over a mile to my southeast in a swampy area near a lake and not moving in this direction. Almost a year later I heard the roar again to my west but it only hit pine forests.

About 7 years ago I was headed to Ft. Myers to visit my dad. Driving from N. Ga mountains. I drove through the night. I only had an emergency flip phone with me. I had it closed and turned off. Rain got really heavy as I was in Punta Gorda. It was 4am and the rain was so hard that my wipers couldn't keep up. My vehicle was taking on water due to the rain gutters not keeping up. Cars were exiting the freeway. I kept going as the sheets of rain and leaves were blown across the freeway. My three dogs panicked. I just thought it was normal torrential rains for the South. At 6am I turned my phone back on and to my horror...I had 4 take cover now. Tornado in your direct area. I still look back on that day and believe my guardian angels were working overtime protecting me. Looking back, I now know why I was the only car on the freeway.
We've had 9 confirmed Tornadoes here in WV so far from that event. 5 in Kanawha County where I live,2 in Putnam,1 in Fayette,and 1 on the Cabell/Wayne County Line. WV average maybe 2 a yr and those are usually EF0, so to have 4 ef2 and 5 others of lower scale for us is unheard of. Be safe and GOD Bless.
I counted about 6 tornadoes altogether in the southern region when I was checking radar, crazy stuff.

I've been in numerous tornadoes since i used to live in NC state. Since 1984 when i was 8, we had a tornado outbreak. But from that day on its been known to be tornado alley. But i have to admit, this will be the first time ever that I've seen a purple sky. Usually when a tornado comes about the skies are usually greenish. But since its a purplish color it looks amazing!
I e seen all shades of weird colors from tornadoes before but I gotta say, purple is a new one for me!

That's in my neck of the woods and the day after I went thru photographing the damage. Tornado was rated EF1. We also had a weak tornado go right over our house and thankfully no damage to our house. At the time mark 6:56 You are on Suck Run road only a few miles from our house which is on Ebenezer Rd.

That mid-late morning MCS that blew through I-64 East that formed a bow echo in WV was certainly not handled well on the forecast. I didn't think that 1st round would come out so strong. I think half of the April 2 tornadoes were produced by that line. I live in Ashland KY and the 2 tornadoes that happened in Boyd County occurred within 5 minutes of each other just after 10:00am. This line continued into Huntington and Charleston with continuous tornado warnings.
Locally that evening round turned out to spare us with rather garden variety convection throughout the day, but we were included in another Tornado Watch, better to be safe than sorry. The MCS knocked thousands out of power in the tri-state area before that round started so I was kind of scrambling trying to use a slow android phone to keep track of what was going on during the rest of this.

Kentucky isn't " midwest"
It is Southeastern
By census region, it would be considered part of the "East South Central" area within the Southern region.
Ohio is considered in the midwest, and both OH/KY share similar severe weather potential.

If those states you mentioned are in the mid. west, why are they not on Central Time? Because they are not, they are considered eastern states. Granted, they are not right on the east coast but they are definitely not in the mid west. When you look up Kentucky, it says that this state is located in the South Eastern part of the United States. Where were you whe you were taught this in elementary school?? Silly
Hey there, a quick Google search states IN/OH are indeed considered midwest. Kentucky is not, but I added it as we spent some time in KY by the Ohio River (and it's close enough for a storm chasing video and not a geography video). Time Zone is not relevant to census regions. I hope this helps!
Hey again, I'm not one to edit my comments to attempt to insult someone or to call names. Nor, will I be doing that, generally, in this situation. Kentucky, technically, falls within the "East South Central" division within the South region in the US Census Regions and Divisions.
All this being said, I think you've missed the point of this storm chasing video. United States of America geography may be a better suited topic for your interest in that field.
Ky is a part of the eastern and central time zone. It is still included in the Midwest geographical area.
If we hadn't gotten so much rain early in the day and the Temps were just a little bit warmer it could have been a really big outbreak of tornados. I live in Clermont county northeast of Cincy.
My sister lives there in west union the tornado crossed on her property luckily her home was missed, she had a little bit of minor property damage, but her neighbor wasnt so fortunate
