You have other mega cities like Moscow, Tokyo, London, etc. But listening to this song, none can measure the charm and character New York has. It’s a city that’s in it’s own realm
I'm a New Yorker and have blessedly been able to travel far and wide. Lots of amazing places like Moscow ofc but I must admit i have a special place in my heart for Tokyo and London. Every city has a certain energy and I do try to keep an open mind which is why I cannot rank any city or town because it's a very personal and emotional choice.
There's things I love about every place I've been that is unique to those places. But time and time again, I return to New York and get reacquainted with it and see it from the outside perspective. There is a unique energy to this city. There's no place quite like it. It's hard to put into words the frenetic pace this city has. So far, I have not been to another city that moves as fast. Some are close but not quite the same pace.
The electricity here is truly hard to describe. It's a you-know-it-when-you-see-it. It's where I learned to hustle because you have to here if you want to survive and thrive. It doesn't hand you anything. You only get out of it what you put in and everyone is competing for the same thing. It's why I'm so capable at adapting to my situation in any city. Hustle and work ethic dont grow on trees just like that. You have to cultivate it. And New York is as good a place as any to learn what you have inside and what it takes to succeed beyond measure.
For some reason I miss New York a lot, I miss a new yorker life, more specifically a 1920s or 1930s life. In fact I've never been in New York, nor I've been in the United States at all. But for some reason I don’t know, I really miss that old New York.

After Yankees games in the 80s, the local New York TV station would play this song starting at around the 2:45 mark as they rolled the credits and showed highlights before ending the broadcast. Great memories!
I was in NYC once a few years back & the city literally makes you feel like you can be anybody or do anything. It's a magical feeling. It's like your on a movie set & your the starring actor.

I'm from Greece and my mom passed away 10 months ago. Neither I nor her have even been in the US. But last night i had this wild dream of us both being in NYC. She was already unwell but her spirits were high. This song was playing in the background. Crazy... I woke up with Frank Sinatra's voice in my head and images of a city I've never been, creations of my subconscious.
I will never fulfill my goal of visiting NYC without having this dream in mind. It's gonna be for both of us. 🗽

I just discovered TONIGHT I can sing this style of music...a real mInd blower for me...I LOVE SINATRA....always have ..., but I have always been a rock n roller, singing in rock bands since the70's......and now, I can't hit the really high notes anymore, but this stuff, is very cool for me to sing, at 61 YRS, I LOVE IT...... FUN.........btw, my first wife was born and raised there in NYC, a little Italian gal, a ballet dancer, we were together 37 years, we took a trip to NYC in the 80's, and we loved it, I loved the vibe there too, me from Los Angeles, her from NYC....I WAS VERY IMPRESSED with the city, how clean the ocean breeze made it, it was really beautiful..a lot of trees etc......not like smoggy LA...I have been to a lot of cities in the USA, and not 1 is like NYC...QUITE TRUE....IT IS UNIQUE...The people there were all so friendly, socialble, outgoing, open minded, great to talk to, I just loved it there, we almost stayed there, almost decided to not go back to CA......But we did go back after a couple months, the winter was coming so we decided to go back to warm Los Angeles instead of roughing it in the cold winter of NY....I was sure glad I got to spend time there before 911 happened, and destroyed so much of it...
