I hate it when fellow poker players take a peak at my hands. I’ve had players tell me before that my cards were exposed, and I always appreciated them giving me the heads up. I stayed at the Wynn this past New Years and played poker there too. Not as high as you but I did do very well. It’s a nice place for sure. Your only bad hand was the KK against AA. Hope you had fun at the bar afterwards! Great blog
As hotels go, it is one of the nicest places to stay. And, if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, I highly recommend Sinatra's for dinner. The AA backraise vs KK hand, Andrew Neeme had that exact same spot in a 5/10 where he had KK and laid it down. The other guy had AA as well. Mostly in that spot, it's AA. They just call behind a single raise given players behind are active 3-betters.

For whatever it's worth, I've been playing semi-pro poker for almost forty years now, {although it was all stud and/ or draw poker on The Strip for the longest time;}, and I think you've got some great instincts. We old- timers used to call it card- sense :) Anyway, just food for thought, but I've seen all manor of behavior re: card play from straight up cheating to angle- shooting, etcetera over the years, and I've never considered it bad to look if/ whenever other players are straight up exposing their hands, brother. Nothing dishonest or dishonorable, I'm saying. Just a bona fide part of the game, whether it's someone flashing their cards (away from the vest) or if maybe they're wearing reflective shades or something. Personally, I would never call attention to the detail any more than I would reveal their own subliminal "tell" to them or let them know when they may have had one too many drinks and they're playing a bit sloppy. (Nor would I hesitate to check raise for the sake of "good manners" or tell them that their girl standing behind them is giving their hand-strength/ weaknesses away in her reactions.) All part of the game... the legitimate side of POKER. In lots of ways, I appreciate seeing people showing kindness to others, but when it comes to exposing a competitor's flaws at a game, well, I'm not THAT merciful, any more than I would be letting him off the hook when I make quads on the river. Not telling you what to do, Mariano. Though I've always reminded myself, that I can always tell him certain things after the game, or even buy them a drink (or throw them cab fare back to their hotel if they need it) if I wish to extend kindness once the game is done. 5:50 I haven't seen what happens yet. But some very good players (e.g. Wynn $5/10 regs) don't have a 3-betting range if they're in early position behind a UTG raiser. That's because it's impossible to find bluff candidates there. The "trapping the squeezer" effect is an added bonus. Man. It's 175 BBs effective, if it were the original 350 BBs, I'd say you have a snap fold. But seriously, with all this action, is this guy doing it with queens? With AK, wouldn't he just rip it in to be sure he sees all the cards? The near-click-back from the early position guy also threatens serious value, and he's still to act behind you. I don't fold KK preflop a lot - I've done it a handful of times in 20 years of playing NLHE. But I think this is a *really* good candidate.

They cost you absolutely nothing, except having to pay attention to who is who and what is what, which you should be doing anyway. It's fine to stay at a very tough table as a learning experience or to establish your place in a pecking order and gain respect from fellow pros. Sometimes that helps your future results against them, sometimes it's a way to get a better idea of where you really stand, sometimes it's just enjoying some tough competition against strong opponents. But it's stupid to not get away from that and just take people's money in a game where you have a much bigger edge. I know pros who spend 25-33% of their time walking around checking out other tables for a better situation. Personally I don't do that, but I can't count the times when I wish I had. Like yourself, I'm a strong enough player that I don't fear even some of the strongest players in the world being at my table, but unless there are also some relative fish there, it's simply not worth slugging it out for too long against players you don't have a significant edge on. At your skill level, your earnings have much more to do with who are the worst players at the table, and how many bad players there are, than who are the strongest players at the table. At a table with 8 great players and 1 terrible player, you get 1/8 of the hourly rate that one terrible player spews, minus some rake. At a table with 6 great players and 3 terrible players, you get 3/6 the hourly rate that one terrible player spews, minus around the same amount of rake. So with 3 bad players instead of 1, you make over 4x as much money per hour. Even if you spend 25% of your playing time walking around looking for better games, that only cuts your hourly rate from 4x down to 3x what it would be at the worse game. If you don't think they competition level is still extremely high between 6 great players at a table with 3 fish, you'd be wrong. Everyone will be working pretty hard to get more than their 1/6th of the dead money. It's tempting to think "almost every game is a good game, I'm always better than someone at the table". Sure, on average you'll win, but whether you can win 125% as much with better game selection, or 400% as much, it's a big part of your bottom line, and a higher win rate makes variance much less of a concern also.
I rarely tell someone I can see their cards. The few times I have I’ve been accused of doing whatever I can to see them. If someone doesn’t protect their cards then I’m just going to use that extra information to my advantage.
9:00 You should have bet like 400-600 on the river to more likely get a call or bluff all in by him. betting big on the river is not the solution when you have and don't have the hand. you are over thinking and most players don't keep track of this. if you think he is weak by the way he was playing the hand value bet when you hit your draw(only go all in if you think he has a hand that can call that much) and pull the all in bluff as an option if you miss if you are very sure your opponent is weak or capable of folding an over pair or two pair.
I don't ship the river bluffing in a cash game often, patience brings better opportunities. If you have to ship it, your game needs work on the other streets, or your just beat. Unless you're just in the hand with a nit and catch a hard bluff out, save your chips. Saving losses is the same as gaining chips, it's just harder to realize. Bluff turns, not rivers, but the best strategy in cash, is to put money in when you want called, especially the river, when your risk of a new card is gone. Put money in when you can trust your reads, and trust your hand, gamble cheaply. The river is the only time your hand truly matters, but you can't win them all. Whales and donkeys both love to bluff catch from their pockets, stack size doesn't always matter. Build or control the pot size based on the situations, such as your table position, number of players in hand, villains skill levels, hand strength, and board texture. Stealing with air isn't a winning strategy, if you picked up a solid tell it's different, but generally bluffing, is giving away gifts. I've gone whole sessions without bluffing period, little boring but the drive home is fun. People playing for entertainment don't come to the game to fold. Flop something good in position, assess the hand as you build the pot, the calls are coming every street. Keep the questionable pots small and it doesn't hurt to let them go or lose a showdown. Every car needs brakes, even the hot rods, if you know what I mean.
I would still love a more fulsome discussion about how you built your bankroll, how you have made it through the downswings, etc. Brad and Lex provide a good example of talking about this stuff. Putting aside Brad's certainly massive UA-cam income, these guys make clear they are just working guys of average means and backgrounds trying to scrape towards a living at poker. Just curious where you fit with all of this. It's none of our business if you don't want to talk more about it, but it's potentially of value and interest to the viewer and the channel.

It was clearly aces People do that shit all the time at very or overly aggressive tables. It was a clear fold Watching Mariano rampage. Brad Owen and a few others I constantly see them putting themselves in bad positions for no reason. And they miss value so often. It’s good for the clog I guess but over all they lose a lot of money.

Keep your chips to the right of your cards and make sure you cards are hidden behind the chips. Your right he should have said something, but a the same time not everyone plays with integrity. Just make sure you do your part and then you won't have to worry about prying eyes. Better luck on the next one.

Mariano, what respect you are indeed good enough to find a sigh fold with KK after villain 5 bet backraise in that spot. Like, telling yourself this could be hands like QQ or AK is pretty wishful thinking from a non maniac villain. We have all seen this line multiple times, and its AA like 98 out of a 100 times.

It depends upon what he had, and whether he just preferred doing it this way to guarantee either the bird in hand, or getting a bunch more money in good. Also, maybe his cards weren't plausible/presentable as a bluff catcher on a river shove, and he didn't want to look like Mike Postle.
So sick how he had AA vs your KK...The odds of someone getting AA and another getting KK is like 1 in 1000..Quite unlucky and unfortunate that he LIMPED with AA too. Arrg, that's frustrating as hell.
Against 9 opponents it's about a 5% chance. Also the call of a raise looking for someone to squeeze behind is a good ploy for Aces, a variation of the limp reraise.

I'm thinking only QQ+ AK. And what calls a 6 bet shove on top of that? only KK or AA. Since we have KK he almost certainly has aces. Mariano was being a little too optimistic after the guy called his shove. Not saying he shouldn't have shoved, but when your 6bet shove gets snap called by the guy who 5bet while y'all are playing deep, you gotta think you're probably no good.

Betting 1200 didn’t make sense to me 1 you put yourself at risk for jam but got no value 2 you over bet the pot to a player being very passive 3 if u woulda bet half pot coulda looked like value or a bluff and most likely woulda got paid off Just don’t see the point of putting your stack at risk of your not going to get any value. Remember it’s not how u would look at the bet. It’s how the other player is going to look at the bet
certain demographics call or check/re-raise is only 2 hands. aces or kings. given you had kings.... it's like an old school thing from the early days of online poker.

What’s does that mean when you say, “Moved from the must move to the main game?”
Usually there’s 1 table that’s the “main table” and if any seats open on there then they fill it using players from other tables, hence “must move”

I don't ship the river bluffing in a cash game often, patience brings better opportunities. If you have to ship it, your game needs work on the other streets, or your just beat. Unless you're just in the hand with a nit and catch a hard bluff out, save your chips. Saving losses is the same as gaining chips, it's just harder to realize. Bluff turns, not rivers, but the best strategy in cash, is to put money in when you want called, especially the river, when your risk of a new card is gone. Put money in when you can trust your reads, and trust your hand, gamble cheaply. The river is the only time your hand truly matters, but you can't win them all. Whales and donkeys both love to bluff catch from their pockets, stack size doesn't always matter. Build or control the pot size based on the situations, such as your table position, number of players in hand, villains skill levels, hand strength, and board texture. Stealing with air isn't a winning strategy, if you picked up a solid tell it's different, but generally bluffing, is giving away gifts. I've gone whole sessions without bluffing period, little boring but the drive home is fun. People playing for entertainment don't come to the game to fold. Flop something good in position, assess the hand as you build the pot, the calls are coming every street. Keep the questionable pots small and it doesn't hurt to let them go or lose a showdown. Every car needs brakes, even the hot rods, if you know what I mean.

I would still love a more fulsome discussion about how you built your bankroll, how you have made it through the downswings, etc. Brad and Lex provide a good example of talking about this stuff. Putting aside Brad's certainly massive UA-cam income, these guys make clear they are just working guys of average means and backgrounds trying to scrape towards a living at poker. Just curious where you fit with all of this. It's none of our business if you don't want to talk more about it, but it's potentially of value and interest to the viewer and the channel.

Watching Mariano rampage. Brad Owen and a few others I constantly see them putting themselves in bad positions for no reason. And they miss value so often. It’s good for the clog I guess but over all they lose a lot of money.

Keep your chips to the right of your cards and make sure you cards are hidden behind the chips. Your right he should have said something, but a the same time not everyone plays with integrity. Just make sure you do your part and then you won't have to worry about prying eyes. Better luck on the next one.

It depends upon what he had, and whether he just preferred doing it this way to guarantee either the bird in hand, or getting a bunch more money in good. Also, maybe his cards weren't plausible/presentable as a bluff catcher on a river shove, and he didn't want to look like Mike Postle.

Against 9 opponents it's about a 5% chance. Also the call of a raise looking for someone to squeeze behind is a good ploy for Aces, a variation of the limp reraise.

@@randoee3854 If you have kings and there are 8 other people at the table, odds that someone else has aces is 5%. But this is a poor way to think about it. What calls then 5bets? I'm thinking only QQ+ AK. And what calls a 6 bet shove on top of that? only KK or AA. Since we have KK he almost certainly has aces. Mariano was being a little too optimistic after the guy called his shove. Not saying he shouldn't have shoved, but when your 6bet shove gets snap called by the guy who 5bet while y'all are playing deep, you gotta think you're probably no good.

1 you put yourself at risk for jam but got no value
2 you over bet the pot to a player being very passive
3 if u woulda bet half pot coulda looked like value or a bluff and most likely woulda got paid off
