Im pretty sure ernie use brighter head voice placement compared to lowering the larynx bcz thats how it is commonly done in Malaysia.. Basically in formal or national song, they use brighter placement of head voice instead of lower larynx and thats what ernie is doing.. Of course she can sing lowering the larynx like the old and more classical style.. She is graduated from music academy and is classically / opera trained singer.. She enter the music academy after winning a national music competition Bintang RTM ( where most of singers are born like Siti Nurhaliza, liza hanim, misha omar and many more ) but failed to rise to fame so she decided to pursue her career in music academy.. There is a compilation video of her singing opera i guess check it out on youtube...

It is just my theory though but I think she sang it in such 'bright' operatic technique maybe due to the way of Malay songs are sung traditionally. Maybe the composer wants the symphony version of the song with a Malaysian twist. Furthermore, Ernie did a very good job singing the song. Pretty sure she starts with more classical type of singing & does musical theatre stuffs when learning music. So yeah I guess you can mostly see her doing classical in her earlier eras. Nowadays not really, she's more leaning into pop, ballad, r&b etc basically the modern type of sounds. But it's nice to see her trying it again bcs it's been a while & yes she still has it. Hope to see her doing classical more as the "Ernie now" & polish her techniques & skills in this genre bcs she have so much potentials.
I agree. Ernie does have the talent and potential to go further in classical singing. Unfortunately, there is barely any market in Malaysia for this type of genre. The majority of Malaysian audience won’t “get it” or able to appreciate the beauty of classical music.
