Man this ban has produced some of the shittiest takes I've ever seen.
I've been laughing for three days straight.
I have not heard any good arguments from these whales. "MY MONEY NOOOO" "its...ok in competitive...why? because uuuuhhhhh uuuhhh power si cool?" Don't give a shit what these salty fucks say. Zero mana manarocks is horrible game design and isn't healthy in any format. NEXT... lets fix standard and stop mono red doing 20 damage on turn 2 please?

Format ties its ban list to a casual format, complains when non-casual cards get banned.
Somehow CEDH is driving all the demand for JL/MC, but not many people play CEDH, and you can proxy them in most settings. But also apparently they don’t get played at casual tables, meaning there is low mass market demand.
Power is creeping way up in my experience and wizards doesn’t seem to be playtesting or proofreading their designs. They need a brake check.
i would love an effective cEDH RC and i think topdeck had the idea right but went about it wrong. im am intrigued to see what comes from this. i think we may see a fracturing in the format

Couldn't agree more. Doubly so for a format that was literally created to be for janky fun stuff.
While I agree that turn one 6 mana can be problematic, it's worth noting that it's still possible to achieve without zero-cost mana rocks, using combinations like land, Dark Ritual, Cabal Ritual, and Lotus Petal - though this approach is less consistent. its just one example of how you could do it.

I don't play CEDH, so I don't mind the bans, the people ik irl with those cards are the ones that seem mad though.

1. Jeweled Lotus is still legal in vintage where it sees play in doubling cube decks.
2. My opinion on these bans specifically is ambivalent. Dockside and Nadu needed to go, and while the rocks weren't format warping in power they were unobtainable to the majority of players.
3. You can absolutely still use these cards if you discuss it with your playgroup first. The ban list is merely a suggestion.
4. I think that if the competitive players want to run the format then they should get their own format with their own RC. That makes sense.

i dont think MC and JL was staples in commander decks, only in cEDH. but all the banlist means that in tournament plays the banlist will hurt but outside of that nothing really changes cus of rule 0. the biggest issue that i will agree on is that it affected the 2ndary market but at the same time if you buy chase cards to sell them then you cant really blame the RC and WOTC since they arent making you do it.
like im hunting a Anime Art Ms Bumbleflower cus its pretty but if they banned Bumbleflower i wouldnt be upset cus all i cared about is the art (even though its about £145) i also have Hatsune Miku Snapcaster mage (which goes for quite abit too) but im not worried about the 2ndary market since proxying always exists
I was chasing SPG Ixalan Mana Crypt. I'm glad its now pretty much useless, I can focus my attention on other packs like DMU and get Sheoldred
Sheoldred is a fun card.
Tbf, opening boxes to get one card is a pretty bad move economically, and high cmc commanders like Tivit and Atraxa didn't want to be turboed out anyway. Slowing the format down is actually probably good for decks like them. Gives much needed time to get engines online before the turbo decks pop off. Dockside being gone also makes those decks way better. I think the big mv commanders that got hit with this ban were Etali and Dargo. Etali might be able to shift to a more midrange/prison strategy, but it's probably worse overall, and Dargo is almost certainly dead. However, this ban also makes some decks that were not viable pre-ban playable at the tournament level again. TnT and Urza just got juiced, and Magda doesn't have to fear docksides anymore, plus Blood Moon became way better, so the staxy-er lists will be more prevalent too. For cEDH, from a gameplay standpoint, this is a really interesting shakeup, but certainly not format killing. Financially, I feel bad for people that saved up for their J-Los, crypts, and docksides, but the fault is more in WOTC than anyone else for printing these cards, J-Lo especially, to sell packs. Hopefully this sets a precedent for them to stop printing cards like this in the future. But I feel nothing for people that opened a ton of packs to track down these cards, or people buying them as investments. That's just throwing money away to begin with.
I agree with many of your points. You're absolutely right that cracking packs isn't economically sound, but it's important to acknowledge the marketing strategy behind these cards. They were promoted as chase cards, creating a strong fear of missing out (FOMO) effect.
Your analysis of the impact on different commanders is spot-on. Etali will definitely struggle more now, and Dargo seems unviable. I'd add that Magda, as you mentioned, isn't really affected negatively by these changes.
While it's exciting to see previously unviable decks potentially making a comeback in the competitive scene, we can't ignore the financial impact on players. Many people invested significant amounts of money into these cards, whether through buying singles or cracking packs. It's understandable that they feel frustrated by this sudden change.
You don't buy a Lotus Crypt because you want to play cEDH, you buy a Lotus Crypt because you want to collect expensive cardboard and you don't care/don't realize that it's eminently bannable.
I have a lot of "expensive" cards that were expensive in their day and now are trash, still I love them, I wanted to have them and dont care they are banned now, Im a collector and casual player and love having the cards I want. Funny thing, some of my old cards went high in price for some reason and there they are.

basically whales and sweatlords got crushed by this ban. a few really expensive and busted cards got banned. poor and casual players are licking up their tears. personally, my playgroup allows proxies, so I dont really have any skin in the game
@@alexduvall5474 thats sad fr, but tbh since I started playing i saw a LOT of different really good combos, this game has a lot of alternatives so I dont really think its really breaking everything that much
most cedh groups are proxy friendly as well. but some people saved up to buy their one copy to have a real copy, its not just whales that effected by it.

here is my thing which, which really doesn't apply to everyone, but for budget players this is sorta good news. But if you're really trying to build something and it takes years to build and you get this card and you've been saving up for it and now no one can play it? That's a kick in the nuts. if polyraptor was banned id be devastated and I only got 1 so I cant imagine how people with one or more of these feel.
the good news was before that most cEDH tournaments were proxy friendly so them removing them doesnt help budget players. but i can agree on those who have saved and spent hard earned money to get their one copies. thats rough.
@@TapTapUnwrap I mean you’re supposed to still have a copy of the card tho if you where to proxy, can’t just be a raw proxy. at least that’s all the tournaments I’ve been too. I’ve never really had any problem running against them anyway. Never lost to jeweled lotus nor a dockside. now I never will, Streak saved. But if they unban them I’d be happy for someone to take that streak. Me and 15$ decks will be waiting
interesting yeah. the cedh tournaments around here just ask that they be color proxy with the official artwork, and maintain the same thickness across all cards to prevent marked cards

The idea that being able to do exciting things with a lot of mana isn't casual is ridiculous. Of course its casual and good fun to be able to cast spells that you can't in other formats and throw big ridiculous stuff on the table. Commander immediately breaks down into an unfun mess without rule zero as there are simply to many broken and unfun things you can do, if there isn't an agreement at the table as to the power level of a specific game then you can always just bring a $14k Stax deck or 29 Armageddons or any other number of foolishness. There is already a competitive Duel Commander banlist and things like Mana Crypt have been on it forever, if you want a more competitive format you need many more bans rather than less.
We should replace this RC decision open a new format League for CEDH player and counter that stupid decision,,,, this is a shame they don’t offer creative way to play to Cedh but they cut the legs of CEdh players, store, collections value this is a shame RC 😑

for sure its marketed as a "casual format" but using that as the only basis means wizards intended these cards to be available casually but printed them as chase cards.
I pulled an MC a few weeks ago and instantly traded it in at my card store. Why? Because it didn’t match the power level of my deck and the people I played with. EDH is self governing. Do I think those cards should have been banned? No. Do I care if they got banned? No. If you played with them and are upset, womp womp welcome to TCGs with constantly changing metas.

We shouldn't called "and the 99" because there are so many autoinclusives like Sol ring, Mana crypt, Wasteland etcetera that is just mandatory in every deck.

funny its been like 2 years i think now since i actually sat at a table and played magic and this ban finally did give me the alright time get those cards out of the closet and time to go sell this collection and get my good chunk of my money back. magic not what it use to be and the product upon product killed modern scene in my area and then killed it around the area afterwards. funny enough more people around here switched to one piece than magic.
the product on product being constantly released with the constant almost monthly sometimes more secret lairs is constantly draining for people trying to keep up.

there is a table for everyone which is why rule 0 is always talked about. but banning cards from a format because not everyone wants fast mana, means those people should find the table playing not highpower or cedh, there will always be the jank decks wheres its more fun than powerful or the precon power level.

wotc needs a boycott for all the secret lairs and sets they keep releasing. but wotc has no say in the edh ban list its a separate entity that everyone has agreed has the control for it.
