Epoxy Resin Table

  • 20 years ago I planted 10 birch trees on the opposite side of the road from my house. Sadly, due to the local authority's ruling, I had to cut
them out. The reason given was clogging of the drainage systems. To keep the beautiful memory alive, I decided to make an Epoxy Resin Table. I deliberately poured a thick epoxy to achieve frozen water effect. This is my first experience of making a table and I've never worked with epoxy before. And I am happy with the result.

Maggie Buchanan Dont be sad about those few trees he used. When you buy anything from IKEA,for instanse, you are given houndred pages instruction book or guide or however its called, in many languages. My point is it takes a lot of trees to make milions of this books. Its a huge waste when really you need just few pages in your own language.Just saying.

Yeah, but it's not like old-growth forests are cut down to be used for paper. Most paper is made from trees that are grown to be used for paper. They get cut and more trees are planted. Granted, it's pretty much a monocrop, but it could be worse.

This is a nice project :)
As a wood-professional i would advise some little changes for your next furniture though.
    1. Try to put screws from the invisible side instead of drilling from the outside, unless you plan to put really decorative caps over the screws.
    2. Dovetails are supposed to be a really tight fit, otherwise they will loose strength. Saw those very tight and if necessary fit them using a chisel or sanding paper. You might consider putting a screw-clamp to avoid splitting the wood when only putting one dovetail.
    3. Also the outermost part of a dovetail joint should always be the part with the grain running through, not the dovetail itself which tends to break more easily.
    4. Once you mill these joints for the framework, you could as well mill them dovetailed and put those beams in from the top, making it more durable.

Beautiful!!! I am a woodworker and I have been planning a table just like this. I've saved up the rounds...I'll use oak. Question... what kind of resin did you use? I know it's epoxy but what brand? Did it cure clear? Also, what kind of glue did you use to bond the rounds to the substrate? The plants in between is a nice touch. Well done!

The white color around this kind of wood was marvelous... here, everything is hidden with green plastic in a way... So that the table is less precious... my opinion. To me, nothing is more perfect than nature itself. So for a table like this, as a client I would ask nothing between the round shapes. And a black precious wood under the round pieces of wood. And other legs for another style , It would be with the branches of this tree. With their natural shapes. For a natural effect. And to me it would be a way to honor Mother Nature. My vision is quite different and i love your job. No contradiction with what I suggest. 😉🌹🙏🏻🌹
