I felt that
Dilla chopped this forreal. He was so nuanced with those fucking chops. I can see how people prefer 9ths, but even so, you still have to wonder HOW Dilla microchopped the voice, the strings etc basically STACKED the samples and found the perfect drums for this. Producers like 9th and Kanye like to let their sample play out a little bit longer but the reason why THEY admired Dilla was because he wouldn’t use the most COMMON element of the song. I’ve heard this song sampled multiple times and they all have similar results but Dilla’s ear was different. Was it obvious and accessible? On tracks like this, maybe not. But producers LOVE this type of shit.
