      Well, to be fair, we're very dependent on regular trucking but yes many drivers had the option of avoiding driving altogether and should've done so if they could but you really can't blame those who had limited options. I'm just glad that the video isn't reporting casualties.

      Because no one believes the media anymore. They've exaggerate the severity of normal weather patterns so much for the last several years, with every flood, tornado, hurricane, heatwave is the worst on record.
      Cried wolf one to many times is my guess why people didn't heed the warning.

      Some possibilities: Less traffic -- there's unfortunately only one road over the Sierra Nevada. Also, generally snow in Colorado is not this heavy.

      If I understand the conversion, every 10 inches of snow equals one inch of rain. If the area got 4 foot, that's 4.8 inches of rain. That is a bunch. I hope this water helps Lake Mead. I believe the main Cal resevoirs have recovered from low levels.

    • @johnwang9914
      @johnwang9914 5 місяців тому

      @@kcjazzcat7822 Still, the consistent release from the snowpack is what's needed not sudden influxes. There's a reason why freshwater is still a problem in countries with monsoon seasons. It's when the fresh water is available that matters. Even lakes and reservoirs are just features that help us slow down the distribution of the water so that we could hope to use it. Running a tap into a bucket is vastly different from running a tap into the drain...

      You're supposed to step out and clear the snow around your car every fifteen minutes to half an hour during a snowstorm, otherwise if you have a gasoline or diesel engine, you'd die of carbon monoxide poisoning once the air intakes and exhausts gets blocked. If people are buried in their cars, they probably killed themselves by idling the engine just for the heat, if they've been digging themselves out periodically as they should, they shouldn't be buried, at least not by as much...

      After living in the mountains, I realized how cold amd cruel the people are who live there. Have some humanity. Not everyone can see what's coming, nor understand how truly perilous life in the cruel mountains can be. It's better to pray for the ones who may be victims of their own naivety. I didn't know how cold and brutal -40 could be until I experienced it. If there weren't some good and kind people where I was, I'd of perished my first year in the mountains. Find your humanity guys. People can fall victim to the elements anywhere. Along coastlines there's floods and tsunamis, there's wildfires in the midwest and anywhere practically possible. Tornadoes and hurricanes. We need more humane, moral and ethical responses here folks. Being naive is a part of life. I avoid the ocean because I KNOW everything in it wants to eat me. Have a heart ya'll. People are trapped right now and dying. They need heroes, not zeroes.

      @@McGussen Disasters brings out the best and worst of people. I don't see people being excessively cruel in their posts, it's just that the weather was forecasted, everyone except the commercial truckers had the option of avoiding the weather completely and there are preparations that you should make and procedures to take during such adverse conditions. If anything, discussing the expected preparations and procedures on a public forum is a kindness to those who may not know them. If we're unfortunate enough to be in these situations, we would all still try to help each other through the disaster. It's quite common for stranded travellers to group up so they could reduce the digging needed and conserve the fuel for heating. People will help each other in these situations.

      It usually doesn't take long once the snow stops falling no matter how bad it looks. Never underestimate our ability to deal with disasters. Still, it's advisable to keep your vehicles topped up, especially EV's. EV's can actually last longer as they have heat pumps which can be 500% efficient though they only operate above certain temperatures and can heat directly instead of counting on waste heat from idling the engines but they do have to also heat the battery pack and first responders can't just dump a gallon of fuel in to keep everyone going.

    I drove my convertible with the top down and my dog riding shotgun in the glorious sun and dry roads not a speck of snow anywhere!!!
    My convertible normally doesn’t go back on the road from Oct 31 to April sometimes May if salt is still b ing put down to maintain roads due to black ice or slippery conditions! TY for sharing the footage!!
