    This was awesome. I'm about to start designing and building a drystone catenary arch sculpture (12" tall, granite) and I always like to understand the history behind any new venture. Appreciate it.

    Thanks for the valuable information. There is one correction though: the origin of pointed arches is from Sumer Mesopotamia (ancient Iraq). Islamic civilization introduced the Sumerian pointed arches to Europe.

      @haideraliibnakhlaq8823 No, they aren't. Pointed arches were created by Byzantine engineers and architects, who themselves built upon older Greco-Roman tradition... Muslims merely adopted their technique

    Roman and Romanesque architecture is not the same. And it's nonsense to say that Romanesque arches are not christian. Really - Romanesque arches are even more christian than Gothic arches.
