If there ever was a labor of love exemplified for the boys from the fandom, this would be on top of the list. The sheer man hours involved in this is astounding. The fact that Aneesa even adjusted it down to the resolution and color contrast to make it all seem like one cohesive piece is just beyond. And she had to do this PLUS working on her day job and her personal life. This is truly canon.
What is impressive and amazing about this docu-series is that it’s the boys’ voices. They’re the ones telling their story. It’s a beautiful piece of Art. Very moving and excellent storytelling. Borahae Captain 💜
And we not only hear their voices through their vlogs, but also through their lyrics. Aneesa did a wonderful job picking out the songs to feature in each episode, which I think is made easier by the fact that BTS are always genuine in their song-writing, so that their songs often reflect their lives.
I don't know why, but I'm just so happy that you're watching Rise of Bangtan. When I first watched it, I just binged...and binged...and well, binged. As each new episode was released, it was like a party for me. It is a fascinating look into their lives. I've never experienced such a deep dive into an individual, let alone SEVEN. You're right, of course, it is the video logs and silly interactions that help you realize they are people...just people who do something they love...and excel at it to the Nth degree. Can't wait for episode 2...also, I'd recommend watching the deleted scenes videos at your leisure...some are just hilarious.
Same here...I binged on this big time and watched them all again, again and now with the big comfy couch crew... 💜
I love the series and I usually watch it with dj jino and I’m obsessed... watching it over and over again
There are deleted scenes and bonus videos for the later chapters and deleted scenes for the early ones. It's best if you watch them after the main episode as you pick up little things when the first video is still fresh in your mind. This is just a suggestion. Thanks for the reaction. Taking this journey with you is a blast! 💜
OMG Roscoe Aneesa would so love to hear the compliments about this series. It IS so very well done She's an editor in the business.
100% agree
I’ve never gotten this deep into any artist before. I think the biggest factor for me was that I “met” them as people before I saw any of their art. As people, they drew me in with their joy, charisma, playfulness with each other and how much they love and support each other. I needed to know more about these charismatic young men and then was kept in by their amazing artistry!
This is exactly me🤗 I became their fan through AHL in 2017 but stayed away from their music since I don't like kpop (still don't🤭) After a few months I stumbled upon Dope & BST MV on UA-cam. Just like that, I fell into the rabbit 🐰 hole 🤣🤣🤣 Their music has soul, it has no genre. BTS is the genre 🤗
BTS was vulnerable with us and that has brought their fans so close. They don’t hide behind an image. They are real and we can trust them.
In Korea they are 1 year old at birth and everyone born in the same year gets a year older together on the new year so they are 1-2 yrs older than international age. JK was actually 13 when he became a trainee and 15 when they debuted.
I always thought it must have been weird for Taehyung, whose birthday is 30 December. That means he was 2 years old at 2 days old. But I've heard that the Korean age system is falling into disfavor in South Korea, and more and more prefer the western system.
I use the birth year to double ck my "math" when converting to Intl age. Two December bday (Jin & V) had me sooo confused at first :)
I recently watched a video recently about the use of Korean age and international age in Korea. The Korean age directly relates to their social interaction, because the way they address a person depends on their age.
For example, right now Hobi is 28, but Joon is 27 in international age. So Joon would have to address Hobi as his hyung until he also turns 28 in September. After that they can address each other as same-age friends, until Hobi turns 29 in February and becomes a year older than Joon again.
Imagine the chaos of having to constantly change how you address a person, having to keep track of birthdays, and doing this with all your similarly-aged friends.
With Korean age, you do away with the confusion because Hobi and Joon (or Tae and Jimin) are always the same age throughout the year.
@@biru-kelabu-0821 oh that actually makes sense. So that's what they were discussing during the recent ot6 vlive i guess, when Tae asked Jimin abt being Tae's 'hyung'.
@@anu5880 - Yes, I remember that part in their conversation
12:05 Roscoe, if you want to know more about K-Pop in general, there are a ton of articles & documentaries, but it can be hard to know which ones are credible and which ones have an entrenched bias (usually from a Western POV).
My suggestion for an excellent analysis of K-Pop & how BTS specifically fits in the industry at large is Elliot, who runs the BBY Gang channel. He has a good understanding of the K-Pop industry and his analyses are well articulated, academically rigorous & insightful: ua-cam.com/users/bbygang
In particular: "BTS vs. K-Pop: A Video Essay" ua-cam.com/video/rBsZhHPA7t8/v-deo.html
"You're Wrong About K-Pop: A Video Essay" ua-cam.com/video/bn0gmu_m-os/v-deo.html
DKDKTV have a bunch of MV explanation videos, some of which I know others have suggested for you, but since you're less interested in hearing other reactors' interpretations, I'd recommend watching some of the videos they've done outlining S. Korean history & culture; they do a good job of providing context as well as the perspectives of two young guys (finished military service), who live in Seoul & have different levels of engagement with BTS and K-Pop. ua-cam.com/users/DKDKTV
"K-Pop History In 20 Minutes: From Seo Taiji to BTS" ua-cam.com/video/kPS4tCHT6SA/v-deo.html
"Korean Phrases You Need To Know When Listening To K-Pop!" ua-cam.com/video/UwTzsWO-s10/v-deo.html
Thank you for this helpful recommendation!
I was just about to recommend bby gang. I'm happy there was already someone who did a much better job of recommending than I would have done. I hope Roscoe will see this.
Just as amazing as BTS are the fans they inspire. I love how dedicated and generous they are, and Aneesa and her crew are amazing. I hope HYBE has taken notice - between this series, xCeleste, and DKDKTV, traditional media should be looking over their shoulder!
^_^
It was that much harder for JK to be away from his family at such a young age, too. Jin had to take care of him, too. Fed him and drove him to school and all that. That's why they have a very special bond between the two of them.
I like several groups, and I've loved misc bands and acts a LOT over the years. But I have NEVER felt the way I do about BTS- about any other music act ever. There is something very very special about these guys
Oh goody goody I love these so. Army did a good job making them. They offered Jimin a stage name he chose to keep Jimin. That the 3 j dancing together. There were times they went three days and the only sleep they got was when the were in the van. We didn’t know there was a v until debut. He was bantan secret weapon
I believe Namjoon studied in New Zealand for 4 months, I believe we saw him saying something like this during Bon Voyage season 4.
Yeah, he wrote a diary abt going there to study when he was 12yo and he stayed for 125dys.
Jin also did a short period in Australia, but he didn't learn English as much. Hobi's sister went to University in Australia and Namjoon has said he has friends that live in Australia now.
I LOVE Rise of Bangtan. I couldn't tell you how many times I've watched it. And, I'll watch every episode again with you. Although, I don't know how you can stand not to just binge watch all of it, lol. My new Army recruit did just that over this past weekend. For me, it doesn't matter how you chose to BTS. Every journey is different, and, I think with every journey we go through, we all learn something new. There is no wrong way 😁 I'm here for the long run. 💜
Me too Angela. I agree totally with what you said 👍🏻
@@aellerica6380 💜 Borahae!
Really enjoyed this, can't wait for more episode reactions! If you want to know more about Kpop, I recommend "You're wrong about k-pop: a video essay" by bby gang mag (uploaded 2020) - ua-cam.com/video/bn0gmu_m-os/v-deo.html . They break down alot of alot of the generalization about kpop vs what it actually is and isn't bias in its info.
I was going to suggest that video to him too so I'm glad I checked if anyone already had! 💜
I second this. BBY Gang Mag are making really excellent, well-researched essays on Kpop in general and BTS in particular.
@@MorganSabido It breaks it down so well! They're video "BTS vs. Kpop" was also good kpop explanation..maybe simpler 😆
Suga had explained what kpop really was in an interview at the Grammy museum which I thought explained it perfectly. It's an industry and an emalgamation of the makeup, stage, dancing, songs and clothing. It's the whole package rolled into one.
I’ve been ARMY for a year & I still feel I’m Baby ARMY! There’s so much to learn & enjoy.
They found me when there wasn’t much of “Me” left & RMs wisdom reached inside & found that tiny ember that was left and lit a spark that has been growing ever since. BTS really do save lives 💜💜💜
Love your channel & your journey 💜
💜
Denise! What an absolutely perfect turn of phrase: "They found me when there wasn’t much of 'Me' left." That is exactly how I felt. Cheers to BTS helping us refill our empty cups of selfhood.
Minute 9.04 when you mention how it feels to hear BTS name....Like is you...i feel you, I bet all army felt the same as you💜💜💜
Yes, the rise of bangtan chapters are really well made. I'm looking foward to the following chapters. (I personally don't mind if you'll choose the explore cam or continue with the chapters💜)
The way they are so real is why I fell in love with them. How they are not afraid to let us know about their insecurities and struggles. They taught me so many things and trully made me a better and happier person. Now I'm doing great at studies, I'm overcoming my socialphobia, I'm more carefree and the list goes on. I had many obssesion in my life about various things and I thought BTS will be another one that will last a few weeks or so. But as I discover more and more, they became like a family, that loves me, cares for me and inspires me. They are a blessing, that came in my life when I needed them the most💜
May you continue to be Blessed Eternal!
A *real* eye opener to just how hard + demanding trainee training is in K-pop. You train for years like a demon and more often than not, don't even debut plus you are loaded down with contracts+debts. The demand on mind and body is excruciating ~ hats off to all the _heroes_ and _unsung heroes_ 🤞💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🤞 This was awesome Roscoe, thank you!🙆♀️
Rise of bangtan is amazing, chose to do their journey like this since it gives so much structure and context! In case you want to be aware of the upcoming songs in chapters 2 and 3 for spoilers, they are no more dream, we are bulletproof pt 2 (so you’re good there!) n.o. and rise of bangtan (also called attack on bangtan). N.O especially is quite important, maybe you could even do a deepdive?
This docu series is AMAZING! I love it since day one.
P.S.: You should watch the bonus content and deleted scenes videos from every chapter, it have so much more interesting stuff you'll enjoy!
hello, i am so glad you are reacting to this.i love rise of bangtan series..BIGHIT wasnt so strict like these other record label companies were..they werent that strict on BTS. BIGHIT was total different from the other label companies..rise of bangtan will tell you your answers of about kpop and about bts...please watch all the chapters..this series is amazing and you will learn alot! this helped me learn about BTS and kpop. BTS lets us see who they are and how hard they work and they let us know whats going in with their lifes...they connect to us so much personally and doing all these vlives and etc..i never seen a band or a artist that connects to their fanbase like BTS does...its so amazing! They make us ARMY feel we are family and we are! Also, us couch crew is family and i am so glad to be part of it! I can't wait to see the next video from you! BTW WE LOVE YOUR RAMBLINGS! 💜💜
It's fascinating to watch BTS grow up over the years through this docuseries. I love the fact that the amazing lady who did these lets the boys speak their story with clips from various interviews. We hear THEIR real thoughts at that time without having it told to us through someone else's view. I hope that makes sense! I do agree that the various vlogs allows us to connect in a more personal way even if we're half the world away. The deleted scenes can be pure joy and it shows us once more that they're the same boys at heart. As for Jin... he didn't start out as the over the top mood maker that we know and love today. He was more reserved but over time he started using his humor to make ARMY laugh and be happy which in turn makes him happy. You'll see how much they've all grown since debut but their core character hasn't really changed.
As mathyung, I find Jin's decision to behave in a light-hearted and goofy manner to be the ultimate demonstration of his respect for each of the individuals that comprise his members. Deciding not to be stern or controlling was his way of letting each of them shine their brightest for exactly who they are. It is also the perfect embodiment of their message of rejecting constricting social norms. Jin doesn't demand obedience or deference. He earns respect. And the relationship between Jin and JK as mathyung and maknae makes my heart soar.
Rise of Bangtan is amazing and really is one of the best documentary pieces I’ve ever seen just so well edited and structured. The baby bangtan faces and context really makes you appreciate them and their journey. RM learned English from watching the TV show Friends and also took it in school but yes he has a very subtle American accent that’s hard to nail.
I think what draws so many of us in is that they don't just share the good stuff, they've always been honest about the hard stuff, the times they wanted to give up, when they are sad or just feeling a little lonely.
In short, they have always shown that they are human, not just "idols", not just through their music but in their vlogs, chatting on fancafe then Weverse. Even though we know being famous doesn't make you immune to bad things, most famous people hide that stuff.
YES!!!! Exactly Rosco👏🏻👏🏻 They let us into their lives…they are real❤️
I love this series, the work ethics of these guys is unbelievable. If I have another life, I will be all I want to be. 60 years old is a bit late for me now but I strive every day to live the BTS way. I mean to live the real me, to live positively and with purpose. Roscoe, when you lost it with Junkooks bewilderment, I had tears from laughing. A great start to my 10km walk. Bye💜🇦🇺
I live this series especially because they’ve included so many vlogs from the members. Instead of using their own narrative. It really helps tell us how they were feeling along the way💜💜💜
Ahh I really loved re-watching this with you and hearing your thoughts!! I feel like the entire series as a whole answered so many questions for me about the Kpop Industry. It does such a good job of showing the differences between the industry vs BigHit/BTS. They worked so hard, but from everything I've seen it seemed to come from their own internal drive to succeed, which made all the difference.
I'm sure there are more videos about the Kpop Industry out there, but I feel like this series really pulled on those heavily too 😊
Also, I would dearly love to see you react to the Deleted Scenes, and with later episodes the Bonus scenes. The creator of Rise of Bangtan really wanted to keep a tight time frame for the episodes, but the Deleted Scenes always have such great content. The Bonus scenes are generally HILARIOUS. I'm pretty sure you would love them (maybe watch when someone isn't sleeping and you're trying not to cackle though... 😂)
Awesome video as always 💜💜
You got it, Staci! 💜
@@ThisRoscoe You will love this series. Each episode gets better and better! Aneesa (the creator of The Rise of Bangtan) shared that she has been working on this series (her labor of love) for over 4 years! She is taking viewer on a journey step-by-step from BTS' perspective not looking back on their days but living through them (with them). She edits their content to allow BTS to speak their thoughts, through their experiences at the time because BTS has been documenting themselves since BEFORE their debut, so there is A LOT of material to edit down to tell their story! Each Chapter is about 30 minutes long and bonus/delete scene content for each chapter. Aneesa recently shared that the series is almost complete but did not say how many total chapters there will be.
She gives an overview of the KPop history for those who are not familiar with the industry. She uses clips from different video clips of other idols/journalists interviews to try to give a broader perspective of the industry. You have to understand the way she had edited the content is to show how the industry works in South Korea and how BTS and Big Hit are different from the norm. (It's sometimes very subtle) Her skill as a professional video editor really shines through. Amazing work! She doesn't try to interpret what "she thinks" BTS is trying to say, she just shows the viewers exactly what they said and shared about what their thoughts were at the time. She is an "OG" KPop fan and BTS fan since pre-debut, she was even in line back in 2014 for their free concert at the Troubadour during American Hustle Life reality show. (She missed getting in because the cut off was 200 and she was no# 207) Enjoy this journey into The Rise of Bangtan!
BTS' work ethic is on a different level because they came from a small broke company. They were always told they wouldn't make it, so they had to work extra hard to get noticed, to make themselves stand out from other acts.
Since they brought up seo taiji, you should react to seo taiji and BTS performing classroom idea live. At one point during the mini concert they did, seo taiji passed the torch to BTS! Seo Taiji wrote about the same type of stuff as BTS, societal issues etc. So they gave a little speech saying BTS is taking over where they left off! Idr which song it is that has the speech. It's a 25 min concert. 💜
I know…BTS is a feeling NOT a word❤️
It's amazing how much pre-debut content there is. Here's an English translation of their Twitter feed pre-debut - ua-cam.com/video/Ri4pXXtPwEA/v-deo.html. They were so excited to get 1000 followers.
Now look at them!!!! They are truly amazing 🫰🏻
Thank you so much for sharing
Ohmigod thank you 😊!!! This was so precious! So young and earnest and so hungry to succeed. 💗💗💗
Wow
These video logs are how I discovered these guys way back before they debuted. Even here, there was something about them ,something special that pulled me in and I have never looked back. Waiting for them to debut was sheer agony. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. You are right when you say they have an incredible work ethic - and when you think of how they could have given up with how much hate they received, but they stayed strong and kept working and look at them now - they deserve all the accolades they receive. Loving this series.
If you want some answers about what k-pop is and how some things work i really recommend 'bby gang mg' channel. Especially their "BTS vs K-pop: a video essay" video, but any video about BTS or k-pop, made by this channel is worth watching.
Seconded! That channel is incredible
Thank you for the recommendation! I’ll check it out!
Same here no other band or group has had this much of a grip on me. They're so sincere and genuine and real, and very endearing. They're incredible people.
For young guys like that to be so exhausted, it means they must have worked non stop without much sleep as they got closer to debut. It takes a lot of will and dedication to just keep going not knowing what will happen in the end. Even after they debut only 1% to 2% of groups make it through the first year. The rise of Bangtan is an amazing story, really inspiring 💜
You are so right, Roscoe. One of the reasons why we love them like this is because they're sharing so much with us, it feels personal. It's never about idolizing with them but watching and rooting for personal friends/loved ones instead.
With you it's starting to feel the same. You see us not as numbers and clicks, but actual people and friends and that's nice, Roscoe.
Oh and don't forget to watch the Deleted Scenes and Bonus Content for every episode! You can watch them by yourself or with us 😁
What a sonorant and clever screen name! Kudos!
Wow! Fianally we got rise of bangtan series!
It'll be good if you watch Rise(1 )-> listen first album -> Rise(2) like this.
That way you can deep dive into history with minimal risk of spoilers.
Roscoe! So happy that you've started The Rise Of Bangtan! It is awesome and I am sure a lot of your questions will be answered and more get added.😄
Your question about Kpop, can be answered like this. Think of Kpop the way you think of the American music industry, it includes everything but the genres that don't come to mind.(Classical, Jazz, ect...) Oh and underground hiphop. Hope that makes sense.🤷🏾♀️
RM'S had English lessons and studied abroad along with all of the East Coast rap artist he listened to, helped to give him a distinct American accent. He also is very British when speaking with a Brit.😊
Journey on...
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I’ve seen this documentary series probably 3 times….now it will be 4 because of your journey! Excited to experience this with you. Thanks for sharing… waiting for chapter 2!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Oh! Check out the deleted and bonus scenes from each chapters…those are fun!
On language learning. I think learning English is different from learning other languages. English is everywhere. It's relatively easy to immerse yourself in it if you want to.
I studied English in school, but outside school there was English too. I grew up watching "The Cosby Show" and other American TV shows. In middle school, I started reading English novels, eventually getting into authors like Stephen King. By the time I went to the US as an exchange student (12th grade), I was already fluent in English, much like RM. (RM listens to a lot of rap music so it's only natural that his accent is influenced by that.)
In comparison, I also took French lessons in middle school, but I didn't have as easy an access to French shows or books, so it was more difficult to build my vocabulary. This is also the case with other languages I learn later in life (Arabic, Mandarin, Korean). I had to make a more conscious effort to learn these languages, to memorize the vocabulary, instead of just immersing myself in them.
Bts makes me happy. Watching Roscoe be happy watching bts makes me happy. All is good.
What you say is true for me too. I don't mind you rambling bec I accept you for who you are 😊.
I guess you can check out the songs in the series when you go rogue or explorer cam. That way you can relate the songs to their growth and why they relate to so many people.
Thank you for sharing your insights 💜.
This series is amazing. I have seen this before but I still get teary eyed watching it. Cannot wait to see you watch the rest of the series along with Burn the Stage. 🤗💜🛋💜🤗🛋💜💜🤗
I'm so excited for The Rise of Bangtan reactions. It taught me so much. I can't recommend anything more highly. I can't wait to see you cover them
Rise of Bangtan is just amazing... I felt so good watching it again with other ppl ..
I cant wait till you watch the other chapters💜💜💜
Soft voice Roscoe: "Hey buddy"
Yes, we are BTSing together and loving it!💜
I’m on chapter 18, i’m making myself go slow because I know the end is near…. But I have seen the first 12 episodes more times than I want to admit 😂 oh and the bonus scenes and deleted scenes…. Don’t forget those!💜
I love rewatching the Rise Of Bangtan. Soooo happy you started with this now! Weeeee!
thanks again, Couch Captain! just happy to be able to continue being on this ride (down the BTS rabbit hole) with you and the community 😆
"these series are not for Soju Roscoe.. 'cause I gotta pay attention"
well for me - i now have a backlog of your videos to catch up on because of work.. [great for a marathon or binge time 😂 ] -- but somehow, I can't just watch them like so so, or when I'm at work and have some downtime. I still need to watch them during my free time or days off.. so I can also give it my focus, for full enjoyment and appreciation, and the great laughs, of course! I saw the Run BTS 1-5 vid last night, so now i gotta watch the 'Origins' next before work today. and the rest.. during the weekends. Because they're that special 🌞
most reactors would react to BTS a lot, but would usually say it's because a lot of people have requested or commented about the video or the boys. And they say our boys are great too, even saying that they are already fans.. no problem with that.
But i think what makes you stand out (with a few others who are also really into this for the sake of getting to know and loving BTS), is the sincerity and true sense of learning, community, and inspiring one another. while I may not always comment or could only be here with the crew in UA-cam (and may even miss most of the lives), there's always that sense or feel of home and belonging.. and just a whole bunch of good times! 🙏🏻👋🏻💐😆
so, thanks again for keeping it real (and cool, too!)
..and as our Jimin says, "You're nice.. keep going!" 🥳🎉✨🌟
💙take care everyone💜
Yea to The Rise of Bangtan....I think you will love this series. Aneesa...the creator of this series is a full time video editor and does an amazing job on this series (now with a team of researchers) in her spare time. What a beautiful gift to BTS and ARMY. Trust me...this documentary will explain everything over the episodes including the idol training system, the Korean education system etc. How lucky are we that they video documented their whole journey. Thanks for starting this great series...it gets better. They start to add bonus content and deleted scenes for future episodes and it is equally as important as the main chapters. I agree with you that the reason we feel so connected to them is because they let us in to their lives. I hate to think how much of their privacy they have given up to achieve it, but it makes us the most loyal fandom in the world.
Love this series, don't know how many times I've watched it and really enjoyed watching it with you Roscoe! Glad you also spotted that V was missing, some miss it entirely. Whatever you decide to do am here for the journey. Don't forget there are 'Bonus Content' & 'Deleted Scenes' with these series as well so look out for them. Army have left a lot of advice so won't repeat, and in fact learning stuff from the comments section as well so thank you Army's! 👍👍
I said this to you on twitter, but I love how they use their own and other Korean artists/commentators etc voices in this. No voice over telling us what to think as an audience, but they still direct us along the journey and you were spot on that this is exceptionally well done here.
Others have said, but I just want to add in as well that the deleted scenes and bonus videos are also well worth watching with this series just after watching the main episode. Also I might have taken a slightly longer lunch break to ensure that I finished watching this with you... Worth it!
Your point about what separates BTS from the other groups, is I think down to Bang PD and the other decision makers in the company who not only selected exceptionally talented boys and young men, they selected just some downright good humans with good families behind them. It just seemed to be fate that these seven humans were put together.
Korean education system: In Korean age, Elementary (8-13 yrs) - Middle (14-16) - High (17-19). Culturally, babies are born at the age of ONE in Korea. So when BTS talks about their age, it would be -1 for the American age. (There's a slight complication, though, for starting the first school depending on whether you're born before March or after) Funny fact: When people are close to their 30s, they tend to say their age in the actual calculation, haha :-) So, when Jin became 30, he'd say 'Hey, I'm still 29 in the actual age.'
Las Vegas 4 nights where sold out in one and a half hours, with only 2 weeks notice.
Believe you've done No More Dream (their debut track) so you're good on chapter 2. For chapter 3, recommend N.O. music video and lyric breakdown.
Yay❣️ I am so happy you decided to do the journey this way Captain❣️ I love how this was always put together and the creator pays for the royalties when using their full music videos. She is not making any money off this. True Army 🙏🏻💜👍🎶🛋
Thank you so much, Captain 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I love this series and I'm so happy you're watching it! Please continue watching all the episodes and the behind the scenes deleted clips ^_^
This is one of the best series by army I’ve ever seen. I haven’t watch these so I’m watching it with you!
I’ve always been one of those people who had appreciated bands for who they are as humans not just for their songs. I’ve deep dove into a few bands I’ve loved for a long time but never this deep. It’s been interesting to watch their journey since I discovered them in 2019. Rise of bangtan was a huge eye opener on every little detail that helped them become the amazing people they are today. Their struggles could have stopped them but instead they used them as a learning curve/stepping stone to success. BTS and Army are way more than a band, they are a life changer
RM absolutely got some of his accent from US hip hop/rap....that was about all he listened to growing up and he would translate the lyrics and imitate his favorite rappers, he also read/reads newspapers and books in English to help his skills.
He seems to absorb whatever accents he's around- I notice whenever he's talking with a British-English speaker, he gets very British in his pronunciation.
They helped me survive the lockdowns and amazingly they helped me to understand my teenage son who suffers with depression and anxiety with I really wasn't expecting and like you b.t.s where not on my radar I found them by accident and thats what I like about your videos they are genuine 💜
Fantastic Creative run-up/count-down to your reaction Captain...!!!💜👍💜👏
I bet it was a Movie Trading Co. You saw those Dynamite figures at! That's the only place I know that has Movies, music, and games. Mine also has a massive collection of kpop and anime. Going there for Anime to watch and I see this whole endcap of BTS and I was like 'ok, lets see what this is about.'
Straight down the rabbit hole lol!
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜+💜
I'd best describe "kpop" as an industry instead of just a genre because there are many genres categorized under the kpop label. Calling it kpop is easier than saying "oh it's music from Korea". The kpop industry is also notoriously hard to live and operate in, it's known to be full of problems, just like any industry. One of the worst subjects in the discussion though I think is mental health, and this will be explained in a later TRoB episode.
OMG. The elevator hidden camera was so hilarious! 💜
Korean age vs American age is different up to two years so An American 18 yrs old is considered 21 in Korea
Please continue on the Rise of Bangtan journey you’re on now! I want to rewatch the series through your eyes. Watching you discover them makes me super happy, and your insight and perspectives are truly enlightening!
Afaik, the Korean school system is much like the Japanese school system in that they divide the years in threes (this, coincidentally, is kind of also how we do it here in Sweden); so the first 6 years are in elementary school, the next 3 in middle school, and the last three in high school. So Jungkook would've have graduated middle school when he was 15-16 in Korean age, so 14-15 in international age.
Rise of Bangtan documentary series are seriously the best BTS documentary. People get to learn about BTS through BTS' own storytelling. I always recommended to every reactors. I'm so glad you have started reacting to the series. I can't wait to rewatch every single chapter with you even I have watched them many times.
kudos to Anessa and her team for creating this documentary series!! very well made. 💜 i dont mind rewatching this series multiple times coz another YT channel which i follow started watching this too. its a joy BTSing with you , Captain!
I love this series, not just because it is well made. But as older Army it feels like i have seen all the clips out there. Aneesa and team never fails to dig up clips i have never seen. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Please don’t forget the deleted scenes and bonus scenes!
I loved this, Roscoe. And your talk at the end. There are so many ways you can go and it doesn't matter how you choose to do it. I can see you starting to feel the way we feel about these 7 men from Korea and how they give so much of themselves and I'm so here to take part in your journey.
So excited you've started this series. Aneesa does such a phenomenal job with these episodes. 💜
Tae was a surprise member and that's why u didn't see him in the first episode. Bighit didn't reveal him till their debut😄
Taehyung is my best surprise ever!!!!
Hey Captain, so glad that you're finally watching Rise of Bangtan series. Aneesa and her team have done such an amazing job, big kudos to them!!
As for this episode, it'll be fun if you wanna hunt down those songs, but not particularly necessary imho, coz they're mostly covers/adaptations. Either way is fine with me.
But for the next chapters, to avoid you getting spoiled, I think it's better to listen to songs/ look MVs first. Do you maybe need a rough guide for each chapter with regards to album/era involved or do you already have one?
For example, since you've looked at 2Cool4Skool album, chapter 2 is still safe for you, but chapter 3 is already in the O,RUL8,2? era.
Anyways, this was great. Looking forward to the next episodes of BTS origins!
Ps. Will you be watching the bonus content and deleted scenes from RoB series? They're really fun to watch but not super essential to the general story.
What an angel you are, not only offering a recommendation but a solution, too. You are the best kind of ARMY!
BTS is amazing 🤩
I love your rambling. Just sayin. Don’t miss out on the bonus content and deleted scenes for each chapter. Good stuff. 💜
I love that you showed up on the screen lol Yeah...our boys...they are amazing. So awesome getting to watch this series again with the #couchfamily 💜
South Korea education system is elementary school 6 years, middle school 3 years. High school is not free 3 years. I'm Japanese. Japanese education system is same. High school have entry test and high grade school is so difficult to entry.
I'm so excited!! 💜 Yes, you asked about K-Pop. Basically that was overviewed at the very beginning of this video. But stick with the series, and you'll learn more. Later on, we can recommend other videos that will inform further context, but it's good to first get the terms, etc, situated in your mind as they relate to BTS.
1) 12:05 I think *Gorey Fantod* in the comments left some really good recommendations for videos that do a deeper dive into the general idea of what kpop is.
2) 16:42 Yeah, since RM looks up to American rappers, I think their music most likely influenced a lot of his earlier English. And he also does that chameleon effect thing that I've seen a lot of multilinguals do (myself included), where you adopt the accent of the ppl around you when you're speaking a 2nd language (e.g. he sometime adopts a british accent when he's in Europe or speaking with European interviewers).
3) 19:59 JK graduated middle school in Feb 2013 (a few months before BTS debuted), so he'd have been 15yo (internationally) at the time. In SK, high school is only for 3yrs (grades 10-12). Middle school would cover grades 7-9.
4) 21:21 Tbf, Jimin would've had Jin and Jungkook right there with him using their actual names as stage names.
5) 42:26 I think this is a great way to create a community. I find my favorite yt communities are those where we get to know a creator's personal thoughts. You're very good at being candid and expounding on your opinions, so I'm enjoying your channel. Keep it up! But don't forget to get some rest 😌💜
6) 46:36 You don't need to explore all the songs to dive into Chapter 2, but I still rec checking the songs out, esp their pre-debut stuff!
I enjoyed that. I've seen a few in this series, but out of order and not too many of them, so I'm looking forward to this. RUN is great also. The music is great also. :-) I'll watch/listen to as much as I'm able to. Thanks!
I am so deeply grateful to walk through Rise of Bangtan again with you and the Couch Crew. Thank you! So many deep breaths required - right?! I LOVE me some soju Roscoe but I fully agree that it better complements Run BTS and other more playful content.
OMG RISE OF THE BANGTAN? This is a great surprise that you gave us. I'm not ready for this !!!
Hi Roscoe! Soooo glad you’re finally doing Rise of Bangtan.🎉 although it says it’s an army edit this is really the work of one person named Aneesa. She’s been working on it since 2017 and is a true kpop fan and has been a fan of BTS since debut
As others have mentioned Korean age is different than others so if you want to know how old they really are subtract 1 year.
Lol I don’t know how you will resist not binge watching the rest of the episodes but please don’t skip the deleted and bonus content.
Thanks for sharing your journey. Shine dream smile my friend 💜💜💜
Yay!!! I'm so excited your getting into this series!! It's fantastic! Hope your doing well this week Roscoe!
Hey Friend! Along with many others, I will recommend bby gang’s videos to learn more about what is kpop (for ex. Kpop vs bts and Youre wrong about kpop). Also, I wouldn’t mind you pausing to give your thoughts bc that’s one of the things I like about your videos. Most people have already watched the content so your random thoughts is what’s enjoyable- like sharing something you love with a friend and chatting about it. I’d understand people not wanting too much talking over videos bc you can miss stuff but no pausing, only silence? What’s the point? If someone wants a silent viewing with no pauses bc they hadn’t watched it yet, I’d say go watch it without distractions first then come back. Either way, I enjoy your reactions and I’m glad your starting at the beginning bc it’s such a crazy journey to witness and we’re still a part of it. 🤯 Can’t wait for your next Rise of Bangtan video and all your other reactions as well😁💜
I’m commenting on you wondering whether to look up songs from this chapter or move on to the next- I think it would be a great idea to check out the songs you found interesting. People will probably warn you about the major songs featured in each episode (in case you want to react first without spoilers) but they can’t mention all bc the series features a lot of deep cuts that are fun to explore. I found many songs/performances/ videos I’ve never seen bc of this series. It’s a great guide for further exploration. Also, there are bonus features with each episode I think you’ll enjoy. Also also, did you know you can still see the blog from their pre debut days, they sill use it even now to share letters that go with some of their solo tracks. (Bangtan blog- btsblog.ibighit.com) Some letters are linked/translated on Doolset. Enjoy exploring!
this documentary series is brilliant, and it's also the perfect match for your brain/attention span since it captivates.
You have the Rise of Bangtan Deleted Scenes you could react to and all of their vlogs from the very beginning are still available too, and, yeah I loved that you found some songs I hadn't heard before so you could do that too. whatever you decide to do, I'm loving these first 'Origins' videos you've done.
Thanks buddy!!!
So so glad you finally started this series. I tried recruiting one of my sisters for over a year and watching this docuseries was what finally made her fall so hard for BTS. Regarding the songs that you hear in the series, if it speaks to you and peaks your interest, you could maybe explore them on your own or add your listening thoughts at the end of the RoB episode? Whatever you do, continue to enjoy BTS 😊
I will never cut out your videos, i'll watch them until the end. I still learning bts history. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I love them as i love my sons. Their pain goes deep in my soul too. I'm glad that I can seat in that Big couch. Thanks Roscoe 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks for being here, Judith!
I’ve seen the video numerous times, but honestly the raw, true, emotions you share are what make watching it the best. A lot of what you said is what any of us feel about the boys and their journey. I can’t wait to continue each new tunnel of the rabbit hole as you explore them. Thanks for all the time and energy you put into this. It’s not only something you love to do, it’s something we love to participate in with you.
The diaries are amazing, they are a historical picture into BTS that no other group really has ever had. Deep personal experiences of there lives, and its things they still do to this day, not as often, but it is something they return to in order to express themselves. JK posted one after there seoul concerts talking about what he wanted to say but couldnt at the end.
OH! also, if you are interested, Aneesa- the mastermind and the editor for this series had a short conversation/interview about this project on "REED REACTS" channel. So if you have some time and want to know why this series was created and who stands behind it I really recommend this video: ua-cam.com/video/-f7ra8g0LxM/v-deo.html
