I played with this racket back in the day, I liked it so much I bought about three of them. The weight, balance, stiffness were all just spot on. Power and control both on tap. Loved this stick!

Great video. Actually Boris was 17 for the first Wimbledon, had just won Queens, was unseeded when he won Wimbledon and was in 7 finals, winning 3 of them against Kevin Curren, Ivan Lendl and Stefan Edberg, losing to Edberg twice, Stich and Sampras

I heard a story that Puma discontinued the production of this frame, so Becker bought all the 200 racquets that remained in the Puma's factory

No, it was designed by Ing. G. Adams for Puma West Germany. Not USA. It says right there in the racquet. 😂

This was my first expensive racquet. Was a huge Becker fan, probably the only American cheering for Becker against McEnroe in Davis Cup in 88 I believe after he lost to Peter Doohan early at Wimbledon ( useless knowledge in my head I never use). Great Video

I have one of these. It has the sweetest sweet spot of any racket I've hit with but it's also the smallest sweet spot of any racket I've hit with. Feels amazing or absolutely awful. It never came with a head guard. The grommets failed after the 3rd time I ever strung it (back in 2002) and now I've added tubing to all the grommets. Recently I've been using fancy poly string in it as low as 45lbs and it's better than ever. That said I can't play longer than an hour since it's waaaay too heavy. Not sure about the RA but it feels incredibly solid because of the mass and the thickness. Massive amount of feel. Volleys with this racket are incredible. Whenever someone tries it they compare it to a log or a bat or a heavy hammer. Have you ever hit a tennis ball with a wooden bat? It really feels that powerful. I think if I had to hit the fastest serve possible to save my life I might choose this weird ass racket.

I still have Puma Boris Becker Pro, I have the Super too but forgot where I kept it, it is a superb racket to my opinion, everything just suits well to perform a proper swing, the power, the balance, and somehow it can deliver great POP in almost every impact

I picked up one brand new a couple of years ago and strung it at 66lbs. Loved hitting with it!
Especially on the single handed backhand it’s fantastic!
Always good to have one of these in any tennis collection.

The real oddity about Beckers game was that used a very slight Eastern forehand grip when serving this was of course unheard of in the professional ranks. Mary Carillo and the other announcers covering his matches couldn’t stop taking/ marveling at a professional level player doing something normally only seen in rec level tennis.

He also landed on his right foot after jumping for the serve. Nearly all right-handed pros land on their left foot after the serve.

A guy at my tennis club had a pair of them in the beginning of the millenium and he played competitively with them. He let me try hitting with them but it was literarly the hardest stick I ever played with. I hit hard and quite flat but man, you really had to find the sweet spot and even when you did there wasn’t much speed in the ball! He strung them at 65 (BigBanger Alupower in the mains!!) and it sure left its mark on my elbow going all the way up to the shoulder. I couldn’t understand how in the world anyone could play well with it. Serving was more or less impossible. Slicing was ok but most of the balls ended up in the net. As for kick serving it just didn’t work. You really had to be a virtuoso to master it. I’ve played with the pro-staff 90 at the end of the 1990-ies but this one was much harder to hit with. Kudos to BB for managing to win so many titles with it!

this is a little bit different to what boris becker played. he never had this pcs system plastic grip on his racket because of the vibrations it delivers. he played something between the puma g.vilas and the puma boris becker super. try the prince magnesium pro 90, sweetest racket ever produced!

The grommets will never wear out. Need to use a very soft multi or nay gut and this racquet is absolutely buttery smooth great for an aggressive serve and volley player. I played it and I would say the RA is under 60 fantastic control!! Apply some lead tape at 3 and 9 and this becomes a lethal weapon for a player with full strokes like Boris had. And it was designed in West Germany made in Taiwan sold for about $70 retail

This racquet would have been seen more back in the day if online shopping was a thing back then. This was a racquet that you couldn't find in your typical tennis shop or sporting goods store. You had to special order it from the tennis stores advertised on the back pages of Tennis magazine. I'm sure courts in Europe saw a good number of these.

Hi Harry. Like the Yamaha YFG50, this Puma Boris Becker is another oldie but a goodie. I never played with this one but its similar in head shape to the Kneissl White Star and the Adidas GTX Pro (Lendl). I think Lendl used the White Star before switching to Adidas. It's interesting how racquet designs have changed over the decades. You should do a review on the Original Mad Rac if you can find one...

The funny 'gimmick' of this racquet was it had a big flathead screw on the buttcap that you could turn to make the racquet shorter. Totally useless of course! And I never understood the marketing behind it. The racquet looked absolutely ridiculous at its shortest! I guess they felt it needed a gimmick....
