  • GVM upgrades are a very hot topic right now, and rightly so. A vehicle that is overloaded is unsafe and in the event of an accident, it may be uninsured!
Unfortunately there is a lot of misinformation in the market currently. From companies selling expensive products that are not needed, to information that is simply incorrect. In this video we answer a few of the questions that we get asked every day.
We (DMW) have the highest level of engineering approvals you can get under our Second Stage Manufacturing in Australia. This means not only is the information correct, but you can trust that you are getting the right product for the right application.
In this video we answer a few of the questions that we get asked every day.

It's great to hear that the gvm is federal approved especially post rego. Be able to own a great truck with the correct gvm anywhere.

If the rear axle load is 1600kgs before the upgrade, what is it after a gvm upgrade...?

I'm struggling to find a GVM upgrade kit for a 1993 75 series LandCruiser to become legal.
Everything is for the new vehicle market.

Do the chassis get strengthened as part of the gvm? I would imagine unless that could also handle the extra weight that that would void warranty?

Yes and other custom components are engineered to reinforce the vehicle along with other upgrades for the suspension, brakes, etc.

You didn’t touch on the towing capacity after gvm, that would be the biggest debate on any gvm upgrade.

Only because people assume it boosts the gross combined mass. But that only can be change on new pre rego car.

What is your recommended rear load that you build in, using this vehicle as an example?

Hi Guys, interesting subject. Got some questions answered by your vid. But also got a question for you. Rear axle upgrade to 3 tons, but no coils, instead rear full air suspension with airbagmen system ? And which shocks best. Please have your say on this since allot of LC200 out there towing and if going solo not having 250kg on the ball the springs are overrated and bock hard what sucks to drive.. appreciate your reply. Cheers

      Hi Holter,
60mm or 2.5” shocks are the best from our experience, we use and recommend Dobinsons MRA in our test vehicle. We don’t have an option for full air only at this GVM sorry, it will need springs still. The springs in our setup ride great because the airbag is designed to be inflated up to 60psi when required.

Hi just wondering what size rims and tyres are? Do you know the rim offset? Is it still legally compliant with those wheels? I’ve had a gvm upgrade on my 200 and been told I can’t put wheels on it as it will be over the legal height and wheel track etc?

If the chassis stays the same, isn't the basic engineering the same? Will manufacturers stand by their warranty if the drivetrain or engine is affected by extra weight over those specified by the manufacturer? I purchased an Isuzu Ute 2nd hand with a GVM upgrade but the local dealer said is street legal but not covered by remainder of warranty because the Ute is not designed for extra weight irrespective of the shocks and springs being upgraded??

    • @dirtymuddyweekends
      @dirtymuddyweekends  2 роки тому +1

We are not able to upgrade the D-Max at this stage so cannot offer advice on this however we can confidently show how the chassis in a 200 is designed for the weight we have engineered it at. The 79 series GVM requires chassis bracing at 4499kg however the 200 series is far stronger so requires a differential bracing upgrade.

If the Gross combined is not passed they claiming a gear box cant Handle the weight as is in the car and not being towing would be hard claim...
The weight is the same. They could claim suspension was effected at most, then chassis too.
But saying that like any manufacturer or insurance company they will try anything to void a claim.
Look in the warranty to see if GVM upgrade is covered or not.

G.V.C.M. Can not be changed. If you increase your G.V.M and use that capacity will have to be deducted off the trailer. You cannot increase your vehicle's total G.V.C.M.

You bend that chassis and no one is going to want to touch you!! Insurance out the window, and Toyota will throw you under the bus! The platform has a set GVM for a reason! The GVM upgrade ADRs are met, BUT!!…. Just watch what happens when the worst scenario happens!!… the silence from the manufacturers and insurance will be deafening!!

That's why we only offer the utmost quality modifications. And, to achieve these, we engineer custom components and undergo a plethora of certifications by DMW and the government as well as numerous vehicle tests.

Agree with Adam Kisnorbo. Definitely want to know the specs around GCM. Is it a stamped GCM or a theoretical GCM. If you can maintain 3.5T towing with a 4495 upgrade, for example, how is this legal?
I’m not having a go, genuinely interested.
    Cheers
