Yikes! I worked in a metal stamping factory in Bridgeport CT in the '70's. I was there when a woman lost eight fingers in a punch press like this. All that wasn't crushed were her thumbs.
New OSHA-compliant machines have "pull backs" where a cuff on each wrist is attached to a wire that is pulled back as the die comes down. Also, to trigger the punch there is a button either side - one to be pressed with each hand. Looks like the US sent the old finger-crushers to a third-world country for them to use. Ain't capitalism grand?

You're right bro. This is for work safety. To minimize accidents, we work using tweezers that we make ourselves. In case of negligence, our hands will not be injured. Just the tools are enough.

@BlackheartCharlie Yes, capitalism IS grand! Best system going by far, and thanks to it this machine is still working away making parts and making money. You want to place blame? Blame it on the country that doesn't have the equivalent of OSHA laws.

@@markserbu I should expand my definition a bit: "capitalism" (i.e. unbridled and unregulated greed); spelled with a small "c", not Capitalism the economic system
The attitude of "Hey, blame the poor sods who bought the dangerous machinery we sold them (only because we were forced by OSHA to quit using it) is what I was referring to. A kind of "Well, if we make a profit, then it must be good. Let someone else worry about the consequences".)
There are actions that are legal, and even make business sense. Then there are actions that are just the right thing to do.
      Best regards,
      Charlie
