MONTY PYTHON Life Of Brian Movie Description:
A young man, Brian, who was born one stable down and on the same night as Jesus, becomes intrigued by a young rebel, Judith. To try and impress her, Brian joins the independence movement against the Romans, the People's Front of Judea. However, in an attempt to hide from the Romans, he relays some of the teachings he heard from Jesus, which ends up spurring a crowd to believe he is the Messiah. While trying to get rid of his followers and reunite with Judith, he embarks on several misadventures.
Monty Python's Life of Brian, also known as Life of Brian, is a 1979 British comedy film starring and written by the comedy group Monty Python (Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin). It was also directed by Jones. The film tells the story of Brian Cohen (played by Chapman), a young Jewish man who is born on the same day as-and next door to-Jesus Christ, and is subsequently mistaken for the Messiah.
Following the withdrawal of funding by EMI Films just days before production was scheduled to begin, long-time Monty Python fan and former member of the Beatles, George Harrison, arranged financing for Life of Brian through the formation of his company HandMade Films.
The film's themes of religious satire were controversial at the time of its release, drawing accusations of blasphemy and protests from some religious groups. Thirty-nine local authorities in the United Kingdom either imposed an outright ban, or imposed an X (18 years) certificate. Some countries, including Ireland and Norway, banned its showing, and a few of these bans lasted decades. The filmmakers used the notoriety to promote the film, with posters in Sweden reading, "So funny, it was banned in Norway!"
The film was a box office success, the fourth-highest-grossing film in the United Kingdom in 1979, and highest grossing of any British film in the United States that year. It has remained popular and was named "greatest comedy film of all time" by several magazines and television networks, and it later received a 95% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes with the consensus, "One of the more cutting-edge films of the 1970s, this religious farce from the classic comedy troupe is as poignant as it is funny and satirical." In a 2006 Channel 4 poll, Life of Brian was ranked first on their list of the 50 Greatest Comedy Films.

And since I'm being pedantic, only Roman officers had feathers or fur or anything on their helmets. Centurians had crests that went cross-wise over their helmets, while the Optio (second in command of century) had crests that went front to back over their helmets. Regular roman legionaries had no crests at all. Whew. Not sure why I wrote this all for one of my favorite comedies, but my Roman history just spilled out. @Darth Wheazius The dictator was an pure emergency assignment done by the roman senat during times of crisis and that assignment lasted 6 months. Usually all political assignments lasted 1 year and were always hold by 2 people but for times of crises the senat gave the authority to 1 person in order to have quick and straight decisions.
Caesar bribed the senat to annouce him as dictator for life time (which lasted then just 1 month and then he got killed) because he had the military power and also the roman people on his side to do so..which was basically the start of the transition from a Republic into an Empire and his successor Augustus who became the first Emperor fulfilled that transition after he had won the civil war which broke out soon after Caesar was killed because his death left behind a huge power vaccuum..very simplified explained.

The fellow left alone that you were laughing at when the mob moved off and he just walked away was a great British comedian named Spike Milligan. Milligan was a generation older than the Pythons and was a member of a chaotic trio of comics known as the Goons, on a radio show in the UK. Anyways Spike developed a very unusual and avant garde type of comedy that set the tone for the next generation -- including the Pythons (and The Beatles, one of whom, George Harrison has a cameo in this film. He also helped produce it) . He wasn't supposed to be in the movie, but the Pythons found out he was holidaying in Tunisia, where the film was made, and asked him to make a cameo appearance.

As I mentioned in the Holy Grail reaction, Monty Python used a variety of sources to score that one (the album is available from Amazon as an MP3 download, but years ago some enterprising soul assembled all the sources into two fan-made FLAC albums). This time, the score was composed by Geoffrey Burgon, and I've been searching/hoping for a CD for ages. (There's an album out there, but it's audio from the movie, not the isolated score.)
30:46 Otto and his JPF Suicide Squad had a bigger role in the earlier drafts of the script, but almost all of it got cut, except the ending because Judith was already filmed standing over their bodies. If you look really close at the headgear, you'll see why their scenes got cut: _their symbol is a combination of the Star of David and the Nazi swastika._ Monty Python got into enough trouble with the film in its final cut, leaving THAT in probably would have earned them a *real* ass-kicking.

Most People back then couldn't really fathom that kind of person Eric Idle played as Stan/Loretta. This movie shined a light on a new kind of "subculture" for the time. And at the same time telling those that have a hard time with it that you can choose your family.

Man I love this movie. My parents showed it to me at a very young age, so I grew up with it. Brings back good memories. We still quote it (and Holy Grail) everytime I go home for Xmas.
Looks like you've got some great movies lined up for your next videos too. If you need ideas for more movies I'd suggest Shoot Em Up and Kung Fu Hustle if you've not seen them.

Fun fact about the biggus dickus scene: All the roman soldier guys actors where adviced before this scene was "Don't giggle!" Worked pretty well...

They had to shoot the "Biggus Dickus" scene several times because they would always start laughing. Even the final take showed Pontius Pilate ( Sir Michael Palin) smiling when he was saying the lines. It was the best they could manage.

The thing you said at the start about the questions you're asking during reactions is SO RELATABLE.
That's how reactions work. You're sat having a conversation by yourself so you've gotta think of talking points and questions even if you know the answer or later in the video discover the answer. I appreciate the audience interaction but sometimes... 😤 Eheh

Terry Gilliam is the one American member of Monty Python, and he's the director of Holy Grail and The Meaning of Life and he did all the cut-out animations. When given a budget his visual style becomes one of the most unique and fantastic in modern cinema. Check out "TIme Bandits" "Brazil" and "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen." Also good are "The Fisher King", "12 Monkeys" and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"
A couple great "Pythonesque" movies starring a few but not all of the Pythons are "A Fish Called Wanda" and "Erik The Viking"

When this film was released it was apparently banned in a number of towns in the UK, including the Welsh town of Aberystwyth. In 2008 the woman who played Judith (Brian's girlfriend at 24:00 ) became mayor of the town and one of her first acts was to 'unban' the movie
