Be careful because videos from concerts can be copyrighted. It's tricky because, sometimes they are and sometimes they aren't. You will see how hard they go, specially on the MAMA or MMA. And i went to the Michael Jackson Dangerous tour, so i've seen the greatest. Your mind will be blowned, beleive that 😉💜

For me, Save Me feels like someone suffering from some sort of depression begging for someone to help, and I'm Fine is when you realize that only you can save yourself.

@@ThisRoscoe I will say that a lot of their songs can be open to interpretation for the listener. That is part of why they resonate with so many. They can be applied to so many different situations that we go through as people.
I love the beginning of I’m fine where SUGA and Hobi slide under V to support him. SUGA did that despite being in pain from his long standing shoulder injury. They get oxygen when they come off stage. JK came off stage during one performance and totally collapsed which shocked him that his body let him down. They have learned to pace themselves better over the years but it’s still exhausting to perform as they do.
When you got to the part where you speak about the "painfully blue sky" - it hit me hard. Roscoe, you're a wise man, and I'm honoured to virtually sit with you on the couch and explore BTS music!

There's no wrong interpretation of a BTS song. Everyone can relate to their lyrics because they talk about human emotions, and you can adapt them differently depending on your background and life experiences. Their music and words speak to our hearts, and we FEEL them.

They themselves refuse to interpret their songs so people can make their own interpretations
Namjoon also once said he likes to write his lyrics to be abstract and ambiguous like Art pieces, and it depends on listeners/ readers to interpret how they take their art bcs just like art, when you show people a red coloured stroke, different people associate it differently. Different people have different ways of seeing and interpreting things. Namjoon said why does he want to make his lyrics to only have one meaning when each individuals have different meanings on a lot of things, since music is universal, it should resonate to everyone. And i have so much appreciation to namjoon and bts for crafting their music the way they are. reading bts's lyrics often feels like its poetry.

You will find in their earlier work, yes they had songs about girls. But around 2015 and the Most Beautiful Moment in life albums, the concept of love and relationship in their songs can be interpreted very broadly, including Save Me and I'm FIne. If it speaks to you with any relationship in mind, romantic, friendship, familial, pr others then the song and the lyrics conveyed their message well :)
As soon as I saw their performance and choreo, I knew they weren't like a western type boyband. No boyband I knew could do half of what they do on stage

For me personally the song Save Me speaks of depression and the darkness that you get trapped in in those moments of sadness. In I'm Fine we can acknowledge that we were sad and depressed and that it will be a constant future struggle but it doesn't swallow us anymore to a point where we feel helpless or hopless.
When I read the lyrics I don't think of a relationship. That is so great about BTS lyrics that it's possible to interpret songs through so many different lenses and viewpoints!

your interpretation of that bit in the choreography as "relapse" hit me very very hard. i've struggled for years with various self destructive practices, and your commentary on that choreo really hit me, because at the end of the day, they get back up. like someone else mentioned, i feel honoured to sit on the virtual comfy couch with you.
this might sound really odd, but you remind me a lot of my mom. she didn't understand kpop or bts at all, but as soon as i introduced it to her, it's something we've really bonded over. we've had a very rocky relationship, and at one point, i considered cutting her off entirely. now i go over to her apartment once a week to watch bts and kpop videos together. bts quite literally helped mend my relationship with my mom. and watching your videos reminds me of those first few nights when we would order pizza and binge content and interpret stuff and freak out over the choreography, etc.

I Roscoe! I agree, BTS live is from another world, and my favorite thing is hearing their voices crack while dancing, because it makes it way more real and meaningful 💜
Idk if you noticed this, in Save Me, the message is like "pls take my hand and save me, i need you" - the feeling of needing someone else and depending on others. and in namjoon's part, he pays homage to those who "save him" and support him. But, in Im Fine its like the opposite, they said 'i dont need anyone to save me, im just fine, i only have myself and im confident that i can do this' - the intonation was more like self-confidence, knowing that at the end of the day, we only have ourselves, we are the one who understands ourselves the most. HOWEVER... if you noticed the choreography of IM FINE, there are these choreo that shows they are lifted/ comforted by others (in the beginning, 2 people literally lifted V to sing his part, then the members tapping shoulders, the moves where JK falls but lifted by the members one by one, the members one by one cling onto one member, etc.) Which is quite contrary to what they said in the lyrics, "Im so fine, im just fine" but they are showing these scenes that others are lifting/supporting them". This is just how i see both of the songs, but its like them telling its okay to find solace within yourself, that confidence of being okay, telling yourself youre fine, going through it all alone, enduring it all alone with mindset that 'at the end, i only have myself', but that doesnt mean supports from others are less important. Sometimes those supports that makes you feel fine by yourself. Those supports are also needed for your self-growth. So yes, "save me until i feel like im fine, and i thank you for all your support".
but the lyricism and the connection between these songs are so clever! its so unique to write a song and having a corresponding 'theme' or relations with other song.

Ptd concert in LA recently, Suga owned the crowd 👑 like the screams whenever his parts is even 10× louder like stadium gonna shake , you have to see him live rapping and them live

When you were explaining about the beats per minute and the heart I’m going to have to research that because it made so much sense. It also wouldn’t surprise me if they did do that. Late last yr Nov 2021, BTS held 4 concerts and on day two they performed the save me/I’m fine combo. And let me tell you the feeling and energy of the crowd was so freaking powerful. To have 50,000 army singing ‘I’m fine’ made it feel like an anthem, shouting an affirmation into the universe. So adding the element of bpm would also be an added touch. I’ll see if I can find a video for it. And although they are doing the same two songs you can see their evolution in performance, they don’t do 100% of the choreo but their charisma and energy is unmatched by any other performer I’ve see.

I’m FINE is what many people struggling with mental health issues say. Putting on a front, a brave face, and not acknowledging that they need help. I believe that is the theme of this song, becoming aware that people may NOT be FINE, when they say they are! And we all need a hand to get up after we fall. Yes, it’s about relapses, and not letting on that one is at the end of one’s resources. Robin Williams, Anthony Bourdain… are celebrity examples of how outwardly successful and upbeat individuals suffered alone. There is also a high rate of suicide among Korean artists and youths in a fiercely competitive society, mired by social media pressures and expectations. The BU explored their stories empathetically. The Love Yourself albums and campaign raised consciousness about how asking for help, “Save Me” is often masked by “I’m fine!”.
roscoe, your interpretation of the songs are really nice. i'm touched just listening. i'm really glad bts reaches you like this. i'm a 37-year-old woman who was once very much heartbroken and just drained from loving someone who never gives back. and then bts found me in 2018. in the same year, they dropped a song called "epiphany" and i cried for 5 hours straight. i just remembered it cos you used the word "epiphany." that song was one of the best reminders of my life and up to this day, whenever i forget about myself, i remember that song playing in my head. bts has so many songs that do that to me... they're such an inspiration but not in a cheesy way... their messaging is more relatable... like telling you that they understand. they can bring comfort via relatability and sincerity and not just fancy words to make someone feel good. i'll be waiting for you to check out fake love, magic shop, spring day, love yourself answer... ahh sorry, the list goes on...
i was once partial to rock and indie music with darker themes. but, bts picked me up and gave me that ray of light i've always needed but never knew. i just felt like sharing with you cos you seem so genuine. much love and more power to you and your channel! 💜
as for these two songs, the beauty of "save me" is that vulnerability and innocence during a dark time in your life and so because of your inexperience, you seek someone's help. it's not a bad thing. we've all been in some level of dependency on somebody else. however, the beauty of "i'm fine" is the maturity and acceptance that you have to help yourself and set a mindset that despite the heartaches, you need to pull yourself up and not succumb to depending on somebody else to build you back up. you see, rm's verse on i'm fine is a direct answer to the lines of his verse on save me. it's such a beautiful answer... in save me he was almost blindingly giving all credit to someone else for fixing him but in i'm fine, it's like he realizes that things are still bad but he now knows how to fix himself on his own. 💜 also, just to touch on the choreographies of both songs, save me seems like they're begging for help while on i'm fine, they keep saying they'll help themselves but the members lift up the one who's currently falling. i think it's such a great juxtaposition that gives off the feeling that if you help yourself, somebody comes along to support you too even without asking for it.

it's my all-time favorite bts song. it made me an army even though i've heard some of their songs before. i lost my father too and it turned my life upside down. "epiphany" made me realize i need to move on by starting to love myself.

Since you asked about the bpm, you're right that it has an influence on us!
The normal heart rate is between 60-100bpm, but we unconciously prefer songs and rythms around 120-130bpm, which roughly aligns with our average walking speed and even the tempo of a crowd clapping! Most popular songs fall under that range.
What I found is that I'm fine has 88bpm and save me has 140bpm.

Someday you'll have to watch the behind the scenes concert movies (2018 Burn the Stage; 2019 Break The Silence; 2020 Bring The Soul), it will pull you emotionally apart as you can see how much work, exhaustion and dedication the guys put into these concerts and their perserverance and grit will put you back together.
Painfully blue sky ... I don't know how it is at your neck of the woods, but here right between the transition of winter to spring we have these really intense blue skies that seem to stretch into eternity and if you look at them directly they are so blue and brilliant, they hurt your eyes. Usually they appear on a really cold day on the cusp of spring. It is utterly beautiful but also devastating in an awesome way.

at 7:11 the move where Hobi and Suga lift V is impressive. Even more so when know that Suga was still having issues with his shoulder after the car accident before they debuted. Suga just recently had surgery to help with it in 2020.

You asked how they maintain their passion while performing day after day. I think it's because they love what they do and they love their fans. They receive so much love and support from their fans and bringing their A game to every single performance is their way to reciprocate that love.
Once when they were in Chile, JK was not feeling well but he pushed himself to perform at 100% as usual. When someone told him to take it easy, he said he didn't know when they'd be back to the country so he wanted to perform well for their Chilean fans. He ended up collapsing in exhaustion.
I JUST finished watching your Save Me vid, I could watch you all day (and actually have, in between working). THANK YOU for clarifying the one-take thing. I knew I wasn't crazy!

I'm Fine is one my absolute favorite songs. And when they perform Save Me and I'm Fine together just tugs my heart. The choreography is my favorite as well.
Oh wow! I didn't expect this until the weekend! Just started watching. Hmmm...I didn't see the Save Me reversed to I'm Fine on the floor; maybe this was a different link than what I sent. Still good though. They pound on their chests or run on treadmills while singing in order to be able to dance and sing at the same time. I do suggest you watch Ida S's Introduction to the 7 Members of BTS to get more details on each member than the other videos had. Everyone has their favorites. I love the choreo in this one - especially the I'm Fine part - and the meaning of both, but they aren't my favorite songs from BTS either. I'm sure others will pick songs for you to react to, but I think I'll let you enjoy your own journey. Thanks for the thorough and intelligent analyses that you do. Love that!

im not an avid commenter but I must say i greatly appreciate your input going through these songs and dances. i love that you keep an open mind about the songs and really put in effort to check and understand - or state your understanding - of the lyrics. I am enjoying your journey through the rabbit hole and I would like to thank you for keeping me company while I am working. I have known of BTS from the time they have debuted because my sister was an army. the first video of them I saw was We Are Bulletproof Pt.2 which was the 2nd mv they released. although i know/hear their songs on and off throughout the years, I have not really delved into their music until mid 2019, right around the time they went on their first break. seeing you go through your journey through their music makes me relive my joy in discovering their music and understanding their lyrics all over again.

You mentioned that these two songs are sister songs, but they're more like the opposite sides of a coin. Literally. It wasn't shown in this particular performance, but for other performances, they take the title "Save Me" and write it so that you can flip it upside down and it reads "I'm Fine". That, along with the lyrics of I'm Fine has always made me think of they way we greet strangers sometimes and ask how they are doing. Most people simply say "I'm fine", not matter how they're really feeling. My take on these two songs is that in Save Me, the person needs help and asks for it, but they may not receive it. In I'm Fine, the person falls and is helped up again and again, even as he keeps saying that he's fine, as if he's never even fallen. I'm fine is one of those songs that can be interpreted in different ways by everyone that listens to it. That's part of the brilliance of their music and why their songs have helped so many people get through dark times.

BTS concerts are usually 20-25 songs. Most of them have their own choreography. And they always sing live
They do have solo or unit songs and performances, which give them time to breathe out, but it's mostly 2-3 hours of nonstop performances
"Why can't I say that they are boy band from korea?" Feel you, whenever someone ask me what are you watching who are these, what is BTS, I just go silence cause if I start talking I'll go for whole 24 hours talking and still won't be satisfied about the introduction that I would give about them, they are not just a boy band they literally hold the concepts that the world has given up to and redefine it to adapt to what is beyond generation, that ain't a thing a typical boy band would do
"It's a band from Korea that's been breaking all sorts of records everywhere" is what I usually say 💜💜💜
Some lives are more powerful than others and just hit differently. Others, their impact doesn't shine so bright through the screen but were as bright as the sun in person and live. And then there are songs that we only have live versions of because an MV or anything "official" besides their audio/studio version just isn't available. You'll learn the best ones as we go Roscoe and develop your own faves too :)

I'm Fine like others have said is so effective as a mantra.... I sang along to it when I didn't feel fine but just singing the words out loud made me feel like maybe it's not all hopeless and maybe I will be fine again one day.

I’m Fine is one of my absolutely favorite songs of theirs (though I tend to say that with every song😂). But the meaning, and the contrast to Save Me, really resonates to a particularly dark time in my life. So yeah, it means something special to me.
Man, so I mean, I know the audio quality recorded for a video isn't the same as being there, but honestly... BTS's live performances are so good. Seeing them in 2018, I remember thinking, "Wow, this is NOTHING like in the videos..." Something I also keep in mind is, they're not just singers, they're performers, so they can't have both flawless while also completely doing both. I know sometimes during heavy choreo moments, they will let the backing track do its thing like what they did in Save Me. I know sometimes they'll sing through it but something that I love is being able to hear their voice falter just a bit because of how hard they're performing, eg Jimin singing "Gwaenchanha, gwaenchanha" in I'm Fine after Suga's verse. People may judge that, but I love it. There's another live performance of I'm Fine that I really like, but not sure if I should mention what show it was on or if you would prefer to find out on your own :0 P.s - I am also a no-trailer type of person if I KNOW I want to see a movie regardless, so I will do my utmost best not to mention anything until after you've seen the video!
*TIP FOR SEEING THEM IN CONCEERT (in North America)* Tickets sell out FAST and there is an online waiting list (eg it'll say "you're xxxxx in line"). If you're part of the official ARMY membership during the period of sale, you will get early access. Set an alarm for earlier than presale time to get yourself enough time to be ready and on the site. If possible, try to see the seating set up beforehand, to have a general idea of where you want to be, especially if money will be a factor! If you have quick internet speed and your computer isn't a potato, that would be best! As the time is approaching, refresh the site to see when buying is OPEN. If money is going to be an issue, it might be a bit more tough since you might sit there and contemplate about if you want to "spend that much" otherwise, it's easier to just CLICK, ADD TO CART or whatever and BUY! If you take a bit of time, there's an off chance someone may have just snagged the seat just before your computer loaded to show it wasn't available. If using Ticketmaster, do NOT load onto multiple devices at one time, especially with the same login account. That'll mess the system up for you and might make you wait longer or have some sort of issue. Would be best if you have some friends on their own account try to buy the tickets, as well, in the off chance someone is able to snag them quicker.

These songs give so much meaning to people's lives despite our differences in experience. You are definitely right when you said that we have different interpretations about the song because of our different experiences and that's makes it even more worthy because everyone can relate and connect to its message in our different ways. One of my favourite tiny parts of this is the quiet “hope world” being blended in before j-hope starts his verse. You’ll see in the future, but that’s kind of his signature thing and it fits perfectly with the theme of this song 💜

From 17 I’ve lost my Dad, Brother and Grandmothers on my Mom and Dads side. I’m 29 now and I still don’t feel like me. It’s hard to pick yourself back up, especially when you’re not even sure who you’re supposed to be. Working on it though. BTS has definitely helped me throughout the years since I discovered them in 2015 because of the messages in their music.
I liked every word of the entire video, what you have shared from your perspective. For me, BTS has been a journey, more inwards than outwards. Every letter, every interpretation, every reference to different art forms, every color and movement says something. As long as I have been a person who studied depression, depersonalization, anxiety and social phobia and has had a long journey in life to heal, the music and lyrics of this group seem intense to me, for emotional liberation. I've been in that "not feeling like yourself" place before and it was a struggle to climb out of it. I hadn't ever keyed onto the choreography of I'm Fine like you pointed out and you are so right about them helping each other up and supporting each other physically resonates so much with the lyrics and meaning of the song. I can't wait till you discover their Love Myself era. For me personally its one of favorites. 3 songs make me feel something everytime I listen to them and they are Magic Shop, Mikrokosmos (which is the song that made me become an ARMY) and Answer: Love Myself..this song I can't even explain what it does to me but I am definitely tattooing certain lines from this song.
