Yakuza like a dragon brought me back to this masterpiece. Dragon quest 5 is still the best and the most tragic in the series. The protagonist had to lost his dad and then becoming a slave for years to come really got me all emotional back then

The idea of your MC being seemingly worse than both your father and your kids whilst being the one who grows and develops the most of all is a pretty interesting dynamic. The Hero is the total opposite of his father who was a man of physical strength who could literally tear doors off their hinges. The Hero is more wise, he's the only hero who is never pictured clad in armor or a sword and shield. Your kids being the next step in that is quite nice too, they're everything you accomplished embodied - being able to wield the strongest magic and weapons.
Lol moms don't matter for their stats 😂, only hair color, but I see people like the "depth" of this silent protagonist. Just wish you could get monsters earlier. There is also that dq your story movie, which lol I wonder what the choice was. Just blonde woman but it does star the player playing as the hero.
Thing is, the MC was never "worse". He more than lived up to Pankraz's expectations and i argue exceeds it, being the one who can finally find the legendary hero who turns out to be his own son while also succesfully protecting his own family from the same fate that Pankraz's family has to suffer. Physically and battlewise he's also his father's equal, though we don't know for sure if that's a fact or not because we never see Pankraz's prime strength and capabilities but i'm sure that he's equal to him if not more.

I really like the balance between the light flute(?) parts and the heavy trumpet parts. They really bring together the sense of childlike wonder from Act I and the grim outlook on the world in Acts II and III.

Well.. Not really. Dragon Quest especially at this time 1992) was way more popular in Japan than any Final Fantasy release. And for USA well, it wasn't out yet even if Final Fantasy IV existed. It doesn't strike me as surprising that a game that isn't out in a country isn't very popular here.
@@Haganeren Another problem is that Dragon Quest games seem to have horrible timing when releasing over here. DQ1-3 had come out at a time where jrpgs weren't that popular, I dont believe we got any of the snes titles until much later and by the time we got DQ7 the Ps2 was already out.
History would've looked upon Dragon Quest much differently in the west had Enix actually localized Dragon Quest V and/or VI for SNES. So many more people would have nostalgia for the series had they gotten to, just like they do for Final Fantasy IV and especially VI, Secret of Mana, and Chrono Trigger have with people here. Which reminds me, Dragon Quest VI was actually localized (as Dragon Warrior V) and ready to be released according to Robert Jerauld, the ex-producer at Enix America before its closure in the 90s. He said this regarding it: "It was Dragon Quest VI that was fully translated and ready to go as Dragon Warrior V. If I remember correctly, it would have been too expensive to bring Dragon Quest V over and thus Enix Japan didn't give permission for localization. Dragon Quest VI (Dragon Warrior V) simply wasn't finished by the time Enix America had closed. Had nothing to do with the visual quality and everything to do with Enix America not being around to release [it]. As I mentioned, we had the game basically finished and ready to go, but we didn't have the time to cert the title and finish testing. I've heard the various rumors that Nintendo of America was looking for polygon based games at the time, but that was never something I experienced or heard while working at Enix. NoA wanted the game, but we weren't around to release it." The lack of a Dragon Quest games in the SNES era in the west permanently skewed the franchise's importance and affected its future in the North American market that it is only now just starting to recover from by "rebooting itself" with consumers here thanks to recent releases, spin-offs, and especially Dragon Quest XI, and most likely a character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate if the rumors are real.

My first dragon quest game, and it's in my list of favorite games ever! I always thought this song sounded like a military band asking for reinforcements, kind of appropriate later on in the game.
I like the remake of DQV a lot, the only annoying thing is the puns (I would take Miudrass over Nimzo any day) but everything needed is improved, and the graphics are a nice upgrade

Good choice. You picked one of the big fan favorites (it's my favorite as well). If it makes any difference, Dragon Quest VI is quite a bit longer than DQIV is, so that may help determine which one you want to play when you're done with V.
Love this battle theme! This is called Violent Enemies by the way, for all versions. No wonder I couldn't find it right away; the title isn't completely right XD.
Its so good at giving a sense of wonder and adrenaline as a child in act 1 but gives off a totally different vibe when the hero grows up and goes on a conquest to save his wife and the rest of the world

electrovolt gaming 101 Akira does draw characters in such a way that you can mistaken them for someone else. The most obvious example was how in super Tension state the Hero in Dragon quest 8 made the hero look like Goku.

Got this game as a “bribe” to get me in in adopting a third dog in our household. I regret little in that decision. I just wish I had more free time completely to myself where I’m not stuck at home.
The only thing I don't like is when a group of same monsters appear it tells you you're facing a dracky(one example) instead of multiple ones, like drackies. I just don't like that, it confuses me. I think the PS2 version is right with that.

I tried my absoulte hardest to tame a killing machine cause they dope af and never did. When i replayed it to get a new wife i got one first try
I never bothered with finding them let alone trying to tame one. I found that the great dragon and killing machine combo was far easier to achieve.

Got this game as a “bribe” to get me in in adopting a third dog in our household. I regret little in that decision. I just wish I had more free time completely to myself where I’m not stuck at home.

The only thing I don't like is when a group of same monsters appear it tells you you're facing a dracky(one example) instead of multiple ones, like drackies. I just don't like that, it confuses me. I think the PS2 version is right with that.

i just hope square enix doesn't mess up dragon quest X....
dragon quest, wild arms and golden sun are my favorite jrpg series of all time :D
