He is such a nice guy - unreal how likable he is in this interview. He has a very similar vibe to the Clapton of today, humble and thoughtful with his words.

I've been listening to Eric play on the bluesbreakers album for so many years and guess what I never get tired of it.

Clapton was born March 30th 1945, so he's 22 in this interview. He talks just like he does now !

At 7:30 Eric states his favorite guitar is a Gibson. God I miss those years. He hasn't abandoned the Gibson entirely but it's extremely rare to see him play one now. I loved the Cream reunion concerts but I was bitterly disappointed (as were many fans I'm sure) that he didn't use a Gibson for those shows. It was almost sacrilege really, hearing him play all those songs with Jack & Ginger on a Fender. 😔

He'd look pretty silly wearing 1960s psychedelic outfits wouldn't he?

I guess he could still do all that stuff on a Gibson but maybe he didn't want to hear everybody saying he should go back to a Gibson and how much better it sounds and so on. He said they experimented with Marshall stacks in RAH but it didn't sound right so maybe they also experimented with using a Gibson. He often plays a Strat like a Gibson or so it seems to me -- lots of bending and sustain. SRV had a much twangier sound.

Sacrilege is a bit dramatic. His playing during those shows was absolutely stellar, too. But I agree to an extent, I'm a Gibson guy.

There is no credible explanation for ThE use of Fender in Cream 2005 shows.....It IS as they were playing with acoustic instruments

Even in 1967 Eric knew exactly what he wanted and had a handle in what direction he was going. Who would have thought that he would have come so far and BLESS ALL of us with his music and the feelings of the Blues and all of his other songs, concerts, and appearances he has made the world over. There will NEVER be another like him. I love you Eric...

Incredible the interviewer knew of Jimi's band during the Village days. The interviewer is also quite knowledgeable about blues from the sounds of it. Good interview!

Fascinating interview with Eric Clapton from 1967. There must be others? Not sure where this was recorded, but there is a complementary Ginger Baker interview on youtube from about the same time period while they were waiting to go on Murray the K "Music in the 5th Dimension" package shows between March 25th and April 2nd 1967. Cream's set was only about 12 minutes long so they had lots of time to kill backstage. Thanks to Wallace Wood for this info.

This was before Prince, obviously. Back then it was folks like the Kinks and the Who (Link Wray fans) using that overdriven guitar sound on their early singles that was such a big hit with young/art school/R&B crowd. Eric is modest about his ability, but just listen to the original Freddy King version of Hideaway then play the Bluesbreakers album version that sounds like Eric might have just laid it down in one take.

If this is from Cream's first tour of America than this recording must be around June or July of '67. No?

That's right people, Eric C. didn't pick a electric guitar till 17 an it only took 3 years until he evolved with John Mayall on the Beano Album and only 4/5 years to play like he did with Cream. Although, Eric's brilliance with Cream was at the hands of Jack an Ginger pushing him from the roots of Jazz. And thank God for that. But to me, when he decided to put down the Les Paul his skill died. And yes he had more fame with his solo career, just like Fleetwood Mac had more fame with Stevie Nix, but to me she ruined the bands pure blues style.
