For Mae switching sides, I'm imagining (or maybe just hoping at this point) that the Sith who found her told her those 4 were the ones that killed Osha, or that she did. Finding out she's alive and being used would have completely taken away the heart out of her revenge quest.

We should have been shown that internal conflict and it's resolution, though. That's a discussion she should have been having more significantly with Qimir working up to that decision.

@kirkdarling4120 Agreed. I'm not saying the way they went about it was great, just that I don't think it was a shock, or that she is even "good".
If her motivation for revenge was for the death of her twin (over the rest of the coven), and her twin turns out to be alive and with Sol. Then it's not hard to imagine she's begin to question what she is even doing.
The issue, to your point, is that we haven't been told that that was the case.

This is the writer of the ep explaining the turn of Mae: "She’s not “good” in that moment she’s just super tired of this pointless (what she considers pointless) missions and errands her master is making her do. But it’s too abrupt. And she has no remorse for the two she has already killed? And if she wants to see her sister why not go looking for her? Why go to the Jedi? It’s just rushed. It’s bad writing. It needs more lines. More substance.

Mae clearly was just being coerced continue her deal. It's not just because she doesn't want to fight a Wookie. I thought it was clear that the reason she changed her mind is the one thing who can, seeing Osha alive. Remember she thought she was dead all this time and still love her to the point that she was willing to go to jail for her crimes just to see her again.

the thing is, they gave us a random flashback for an entire episode in the MIDDLE of Mae's character arc, instead of showing us Mae's character change, so it came out of nowhere. Literally to the audience it looks like she decided all of this while walking in a forest for like 5 minutes

It feels like the story was crafted in outline form, with critical plot points paced to keep the flow smooth. Additionally, certain fan service items were sprinkled throughout to try to populate the story with immersive elements. The dangerous forest. The cutesy alien tracker. There must be a dark side haberdasher somewhere, "Helmets 'r' Us." But the story ended up shorter than the episode count, so the narrative gets padded.

I don't understand is how streaming services got so out of touch of how to make a weekly TV show. Up until 2010, all these companies had to create 44 minute shows with an A plot, a B plot, and a bit of season long continuity. You could jump in at any point and have a decent watch. Disney Plus is creating 4 hour movies that cost $250 million and cutting them into 8 pieces. It's ridiculously dumb and way too expensive.
I just watched the first season of 'White Collar'. You've got two leads with great chemistry. 4-5 secondary characters and I'm sure it cost a fraction of the $30 million per episode we've been seeing from Disney Plus. I don't get it. It shouldn't be hard to create compelling stories in Star Wars. They need to fire everyone making TV shows at this point because they clearly don't get it.

The Jedi, when questioning who Mae is working with, don't even consider the Sith. It's possible the face a Sith but don't know it's a Sith, which would explain the Jedi later not thinking the Sith had been extinct for a long time during the prequel era.

It doesn't surprise me that Osha would be uninterested in tracking down Osha. Osha had always been a prick to her, and then tried to _set her on fire._ That's the only motivated action that make sense to me in this episode. I _could_ be interested in the emotional content, except that still requires genuinely good writing to do any more than just give emotion signals instead of showing the motivation for emotions.
Why did they have the unarmed (but highly important) civilian at the rear of the group? That was dumb.
I think that in some way putting Ki-Adi-Mundi in this episode is intended to mean something. He can't possibly have been inserted and named in the credit for no reason. It may be that the writers are just tweaking the noses of hardcore fans of the lore. Or it may be that they're giving a valid clue to those same hardcore fans that this villain will prove not to be the Sith...but that would take more competent writing than they've shown us so far.
Clarus is dead correct in how Disney+ fails to structure these programs for the medium. This isn't a new problem: Magazines figured out how to do this 'way back in Charles Dickens' days.

One thing that keeps me from being invested is that Osha and Mae don’t really feel like distinct characters to me. Like, I know they’re twins so they would of course be similar and not like Mirror Mirror versions of each other, but we’ve spent barely any time with each of them to feel like either are unique characters. Like their major distinction is one is on the antagonist’s side and killed some Jedi and one is the protagonist who is likes the Jedi. Honestly they felt more distinct as children than they do after over a decade apart living completely different lives of Dark Sider training vs Jedi/space mechanic training

I feel like the motivations in the writing are poorly written and erratic. 1) Isn't childhood Mae going from I'm upset about you leaving to, I'm going to kill you pretty extreme? I suppose some will say, well she was just a kid and kids say crazy things without really understanding them or something, but child Mae almost immediately lit an actual fire. Perhaps it was just technically only the book itself and there's some perspective wizardry they are trying to pull, but as it stands right now its just nonsensical. 2) It seemed to me they were painting Mae as hell bent on revenge for deeply rooted personal reasons, not just about Osha but everything related to the homeworld incident. I feel like they also seemed to show her as having an extreme disdain for Jedi overall right from the start. Now seemingly all of a sudden, the homeworld incident was no biggie, and she must not have that much disdain for Jedi if she seemingly all of the sudden has no reservation about turning herself in to their custody. I could see the character deciding she was tired of following the sith characters lead, but just randomly and suddenly being all good with the Jedi? That makes no freakin' sense, especially not with a two second flip.

@@CheesySalmon Its obvious the Jedi kill the witches man cmon… How are people actually intrigued by this “mystery”? It’s obvious that the Jedi were the ones responsible for the fire since ep 1. The specifics of how everything went down don’t matter anymore because we know already what the main reveal is and what consequences they have later on in the story. We know the Jedi either directly kill the witches or indirectly end up getting them killed and tried to cover it up. The bad thing that the show is trying to highlight is not just that the Jedi had a hand in the death of all these people, but that they also were willing to cover it up. That they were willing to throw away their code and all their morals to save their own ass’s , that’s where the whole “kill the dream” thing is going. People are going to loose faith in the Jedi or at the very least Osha is.
As for the sith thing, there is only two options for who it could be. It’s either going to be Mea’s boy toy or the zabrek witch. I’m hoping and praying that it’s not Mea’s friend because it’s way, way too obvious of a reveal even for this show. Then they have a short episode with a jump cut just as the first interesting thing happens. It's a cheap ploy for a show that costs this much. The cost of this show is ridiculous when you compare it to Godzilla minus one. I'd hoped Disney started to figure it out but they've lost their way. Maybe all the pieces start to click as the story progresses. Maybe its just a disjointed mess. Book of Boba Fett faltered in this way. It set up Boba Fett for these failures and never really brought his story arc back in to focus with a twist showing how the bounty hunter learned from his political flubs. There never felt like any payoff landed. So my faith in the ability to reign in new story tellers from wandering too much in the wilds is broken. It's as if George Lucas is still running the show.
I hope I'm wrong. Maybe the episodes where everything begins to click in place are coming. I'm ready for this to be a Jedi mystery - lightsabers out. Or maybe we're going to get more star vespas.

"Mostly Uncharted" planet with overengineered bridge conveniently next to random woodland landing zone.... hmmmmm
Jecki seems TOO into things "becoming one with the Force"... put her on a list.
I will allow props to the Single "Good" Lore Deep Cut. They Canonized the Tynnan Species which has been overdue since first publication in 1979 in "Han Solo's Revenge" (Brian Daley).
The BAD news is, that if they can exert THIS much research, they should KNOW that KI ADI MUNDI was a KNIGHT in TPM who later attained Master by AOTC. (Yes, they are as dumb as Anakin for not catching that)... (Oh, yeah, and he also WAS NOT BORN YET.). If the KelDor on the mission wasn't obviously gonna get the Redshirt Treatment, they probably would have called him Plo Koon too.
Their options to address this screwup are
    1. Edit the text of the Credits to ANY OTHER NAME and walk away. {Jedi Mind Trick} "You saw nothing".
    2. Retcon the Cerean Species to a ludicrous degree and task a hack writer to explain his scandalous demotion between High Republic and TPM. (The Wookieepedia Edit is STRONG with this one)
    3. Claim it is an Ancestor of the same Name. Ki Adi Mundi, Knight of the High Republic, Keeper of the Jedi Bootycall Pass, Sixth of His Name.
    4. Claim that in addition to the Cerean near extinction birth rate problem, they have a culturally limited number of allowable Name sounds (Like Korea) and the odds of simple coincidence Name replication rise to plausibility.
Say nothing about the near dozen Jedi and civilian contractors that now ALL must die for being witness to Smilo Ren. (Probably Qmir) playing with his food. Master OR Apprentice, the Ro2 Cover is blown for this decade. Also, Apprentice or Master, a Ro2 Sith is ALWAYS looking for the next hotness to put on the warmup bench in case an Apprentice Rises, or one Falls.
But what REALLY happened was, the Acolyte serves not the Dark Jedi, the Sith or the Witches. The Spiral art on the wall gives it all away. Smilo Ren is a follower of JIGSAW, and he "wants to play a game", where the Jedi are not killed by a weapon, but by their choices. Kelnacca was researching the game and came too close.

I agree with Clarus that this show feels lazy, it’s giving me a lot of the same vibes that Ashoka did. So much of this show has felt linear, it lacks the intrigue and tension that make a series interesting. Like what would Sol have done if Osha adamantly refused to go with him? Would he bend/break his Jedi code in order to get his way or would he let her go? But everything just falls neatly into place, the mystery of Smilo Ren is honestly laughable.
Also, on the lazy front, they tell us that forest was super deadly, and we know it’s super deadly because… one mid bug attacked 20 people in a world where there are blasters, lightsabers, and Force wilders. I want to give this show a chance but they make it so hard.

Why is Master KI-ADI-MUNDI there? I hope they're able to explain it well enough. Yes most jedi can sense animals, and some can influence them. I feel like the cut out the scene where Mae starts mulling over the idea of turning herself in? The helmet looks kinda cheap, maybe better lighting. Diologue is still clunky AF, though there are some decent ideas behind the clunky conversations. Vernestra is the bad guy. Sol and Jeki are the only ones that I find myself connecting with.
Star Wars doesn't need saving, it just needs the people who make it to actually have talent and give a crap about simple things like details and diologue and characters

In this ep so much did not work for me, the terrible plotting, short length, wild character shifts. It was a filler in a season of 8 eps, every ep needs to hit hard and move the story. This undid the story. I was very upset after watching. Besides Mae's baffling change of heart which I agree its not good, two other big things, first, tracking by scent is nonsense, there would be no trail to follow if Kelnacca went into the forest years ago. Plus Sol has a personal connection and can't get at least a read? Just no. Second Kelnacca being killed off camera, I was livid, no Wookiee battle rage Jedi battling Sith? Just no, total waste. But there was sometbing I thought you would pick up on as I yelled at the TV and on TwitterX about it, when the Jedi arrive and Jecki talks to the locals and gets the info that Kelnacca went into the forest, Sol then turns to the forest and says he went in there, his tone is not agreeing, it sounds like he is repeating what Jecki said as his own idea. I was like Jedi men are jerks that they steal women's work too? And you had the chocolate fondue/fountain thing at the start so I thought you would catch it too. Really, check that scene, listen to Sol's tone, maybe I am reading it wrong.
