    Thank you, my friend!
    I have just replaced a broken fan on my Dell Inspiron 5567.
    I would never have had the confidence without your excellent video.
    Thank you for saving me the £60 my local repair guy asked.

    1. This computer, and maybe others as well, requires different screw bit sizes. I happened to have bought a computer tool kit some time ago and found that it contained the necessary bits to do this. The kit also had plastic pry bars so I would not be using a metal pry bar which can potentially contact circuitry on the components. I bought the kit on Amazon for about $30(US).
    2. Also, it is very important as soon as you remove the cover to disconnect the battery so there will not be any power available to the circuits.
    3. Also, be sure, when doing this job, that the air where you live is not too dry and static which can cause a spark (static electricity) between your hand and the computer components. These components use very minute voltages and the circuits can be easily damaged. Most of us don't live in East India which is a humid climate. The kit I bought did have a grounding strap I used between my wrist and the metal frame of the computer while I was working on it.

      I do lapotps for about 15 years, and so far no problem with the static electricity. But good advises.

    At 5:33 the ribbon cable (or whatever you call it) is pulled out and at 5:48 when you come back, the cable has been plugged back in. This is a little tricky to plug back in because the parts are so tiny. On my model there was one screw that I could unscrew from the motherboard, and I figured out that there is a little cover that clamps down over the tip of the ribbon cable that you have to flip down, position the cable in place, then flip it back up. Also it's hard to see, you can only see it from the side. But after a couple tries I got it to clamp in.
    Anyway, thanks, I could not have done it without your video.

    Fixing the white ribbon underneath the fan is the most annoying thing I have ever experienced in this world. If only you had mentioned to hold on to the ribbon rather than taking it out of the motherboard I wouldn't have to go through all this pain of fixing it back in. The laptop won't even turn on now. Will update after I try and remove the motherboard and pry the ribbon back in its slot

    • @ZVEKOfficial
      @ZVEKOfficial 3 роки тому +5

      Update: (2hrs later) I FIXED IT! I had to disassemble the entire laptop. After removing all the Motherboards cables I was finally able to take it out of the laptop casing. I then attached the white ribbon (which actually is used to turn on the power button of the laptop) inside its slot underneath the motherboard. You really need to remove each and every single cable and wire to get the motherboard out btw. Horrible laptop design to be honest. But I'm happy I was able to get the job done.

      I found that I had to unscrew and raise up the board where this cable connects in order to properly reinstall it. It's pretty much impossible to do so otherwise. If I had seen that it was glued to the underside of the fan housing when I was lifting it off, I could possibly have held the cable down with a plastic pry tool while lifting the fan off and I wouldn't have had to take the board loose to reattach it. Don't know if I would have been able to pry it successfully this way, but would like to have been able to at least try anyway.

      I had to do this same thing on an older Dell I had a few years ago; I'll explain in this text why I did it). I learned a lot from that experience.
      The reason I went looking for a video on how to remove the computer cover from this newer model (5567) was because the cooling fan in mine suddenly started making a loud noise. For a day or so prior to the fan making noise, I noticed the fan was running on a high speed and the fan exhaust area (on the back of the computer where the screen meets the base) was very warm.
      I'm going to share a few observations here I experienced when I did mine. The absolute first thing I did when I removed the back cover was to unplug the battery to remove the possibility of powering any of the circuits; it's easy to accidentally hit the power button when flipping the computer over to disassemble it. I removed the fan assembly carefully while holding down on the ribbon cable that passes underneath the fan housing with a plastic (not metal) pry bar. This eliminates having to remove and reinstall the board in order to reconnect this (power) cable (if you're not sure you were able to keep this cable held in place, remove the board by removing it's screws and unplug and replug the cable). I cleaned the fan blades with a fine bristle brush.
      Possibly the computer was not assembled with the proper amount of paste to keep the processor operating cool enough (I had an older Dell computer a few years ago where the person assembling it had applied way too much paste and it never did run cool). Don't overuse this paste - use an amount similar to what this youtuber did in the video. If you use too much paste, the heat will not leave the CPU area quickly enough (the heat will migrate into the surrounding areas). Also, don't press down on the heat sink when replacing it onto the CPU. You will notice the screws that hold the CPU in place are spring-loaded. These spring loaded screws will automatically apply the correct amount of pressure. Just guide the heat sink into place over the CPU and install the screws while gently keeping the CPU in place.
      Cleaning the fan blades and replacing the paste on the CPU (my model doesn't also have the GPU because it's not a gaming computer and doesn't have a GPU) seems to have solved the problem. It's now running coolly and quietly. I don't think these cooling fans are intended to run all the time the computer is running, just when the CPU and/or GPU get(s) hot. The temperature in these components tell the cooling fan when to run, and the fan cycles on and off as necessary.

    How much thermal paste should I buy for this? I can't really tell the capacity of that syringe you used in the video...
    I reaaaally don't want to get at it and find out I don't have enough. I´d love to just buy a 20gr syringe and be done with it for a good while but tbh I can't afford that rn :/

    • @LaptopDisassembly
      @LaptopDisassembly  2 роки тому

      20gr is way much. I use big syringe coz I use it everyday. You can just put a small drop like been and just use your finger to make it even. It has to be a thin layer at the end.

      @@monica-mi5lx You have to remove the srews on the board. After that just lift the left side of the board. It is a regular connector on the end of the board. Just plug the cable back and close the mechanism.

    Hello, I've tried just about everything... I replaced the fan&Heatsink in a Dell 17-5767 Now the Fan is running wide open all the time... error message saying fan not responding correctly...In the bios the the fan isn't showing the RPM's...Any ideals? I've tried about everything...unplugged battery for 30 sec held power button for 30 second's...unplugged the small 2032 battery for 10 mins... Did the thermal paste over..unplugged the fan and plugged back up...reset the laptop...tried a old bios firmware...tried my old fan which still works,BUT IT ALSO runs at highest rpms now... Trying to think of everything I've tried...Did the new fan do some kind of hardware change???? Any way gonna order another fan and try that,I guess Thanks

    • @LaptopDisassembly

      Have you try with the latest bios from the dell site. If that douse not help, there may be a problem with the thermal sensor. It is telling the laptop that the it is hot and it needs to be cooled. Also did you try different windows. I had cases with bad OS with same behavior.
