Gotta say, I LOVE the respect and honor her teammates had. The ones who you'd assume to be the most threatened by her were the only ones, along with her family, who accepted and actively supported her. When they went to get her a dress, that was very moving. Love the demonstration of strong men who aren't intimidated by strong women. Such a good message!!
The sister was not very supportive, though. I would always buckle under and take a step back when my siblings and friends would get jealous. It's nice to see how determined this girl was. I have been jealous of others, too, but they were smart enough to brush it off.
Wow !!!!! A young Helen Hunt and Daphne Zuniga!!!! I guess Im showing my age because I know who those actresses are!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂 Wow this is the first time I have seen this movie!!!!😊😊😊
You may imagine my surprise today when laying on the sofa here in Iceland, on day 7 of Covid fever, when I stumbled upon this movie. I had never heard of it before. I clicked and started watching. As soon as I heard Oregon - memories came back from my year as an AFS exchange student, in a high school in Oregon in 1978. So I paused deciding to click "more" and read up on the movie. When I got to the part of "Tami Maida who played football in the small town of Philomath" - I positively got goose bumps. I couldn't believe it. Philomath High (in a town of around 1.500 at that time), is where I spent my exchange student year, graduating with a High School diploma in the spring of 1978. And I had never heard of Tami - who was there three years later, playing with some of the guys that were freshmen on the team, when I was there. Unbeliveable coincidence. Made my day 😀.
This is such a sweet movie!!!! Wow!!! I really love the mother too,... I would say this to my daughters "You can do anything, you can have everything… the trouble is that attitudes just haven’t kept up with the opportunities" , this movie is so inspirational!
what an amazing young woman tami maida was to be so brave and so sure of herself at such a young age what an inspiration this woman is for young people everywhere.
Helen Hunt is perfect for this part as Tami playing on the men's high school football team. She was brave and determined and turned out to be an asset to the team. There was a lot of news commotion in the town and much laughter to endure. She was gracious and stayed focused and a good example for anyone who is different in their chosen field to emulate.

I was surprised at how well the team players adapted and were proud to be playing with such a good Quarterback especially being a woman. The townspeople really came out in support as well. This movie is truly deserving of a 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ rating with an all-star cast.

I saw this movie as a kid and I can highly relate to this. Back then, there were hardly any women sports. We had to choose from a limited number of sports. I remember in middle school, my school only had the option of us playing volleyball, which I hated. After complaining. complaining and complaining, we finally convinced our PE teacher to let us play soccer. The school had the fields and only the boys were allowed to play.
We must have been ahead of you. By 1983 (junior high for me), girls did most sports boys did. I did Judo and about 20% of the club were female. I had a girl on a baseball team. I knew several girls who played ice hockey. School had soccer, basketball, touch (flag) football, track, floor hockey, gymnastics, swimming, etc. The only big sports I know the girls didn't do was rugby and wrestling. Then again, the boys didn't do field hockey. There were girls at school who used the weight room. Soccer was huge for girls. We had separate boys/girls classes until PE 12, which was co-ed but included all sorts of fun sports/games -- golf, tennis, broomball, bowling, skiing, ping pong, swimming, etc. I remember seeing the movie and the girl playing football thing wasn't that big of a deal even then. Personally, the fact that a Canadian family was playing football in high school was. This is not a sport widely played in Canadian schools.
Fabulous film ! What a story. Without films like this, real stories wouldn't be known at all! Great cast.. Technical stuff by Tami herself.. wow 😍 I know nothing about American Football, but the premise resonates with me.
