The land he wanted was zoned C-2. It would not have allowed for the building of an arena. The State of Arizona stepped in and stopped the auction from happening. Without any cooperation from The Ishiba family who own the Suns and Mercury on getting a new arena, then returning to Phoenix for any owner might be impossible.

Its not that everyone hates McDavid, they hate how the media jams him down our throats. The Panthers won the Stanley Cup but all you hear about is McDavid and the Oilers. You will have a 20 minute segment on the broadcast and 15 minutes is about the losing team oilers and mcdavid and 5 minutes on the winning panthers. We get it, hes the greatest player playing. Why not talk about how Forzling and Barkov shut down McDavid in games 6 and 7? People want to talk about how many points he had in the finals. In 7 games he had 11 points which is good, however 8 of those 11 points came in 2 games, games 4 and 5. You could easily talk about how the Florida Panthers have such a great defensive system that in 5 of the 7 games McDavid was basically non existent. That is peoples problems with McDavid. This video for example, you spent 2 and a half minutes ranting about McDavid and the hate he gets. Why not just say that McDavid won the Conn Smythe did not come out on the ice to accept it, maybe its better to award the conn smythe at the awards, would of taken 30 seconds like very other topic except for the phoenix topic as that's a big topic

Phoenix is no different now than Kc,Atlanta, cincy,Houston or anywhere else that "wants" a team. Gary just said they aren't expanding anytime soon. That 5 year window with Alex was their best chance of getting the team back regardless of him sucking. Suns just did new renovations on their arena and don't need a new one for the foreseeable future. NHL ain't going back there anytime soon. If new competent owners didn't step up and save them for the almost 30 years they were there... they aren't going to come out of the woodwork now. Plus more hoops of building an arena isn't easy

Are people really surprised that Meruelo would have to give the $1 billion back to the NHL to reactivate the team? Like, did anyone think he was getting a team for free? It's not like he couldn't make money off the $1 billion between now and whenever the Coyotes would have returned, so having to give the money back can't be that big of a deal to him.
Everybody (fans & media) is citing one source on this, who in turn is citing "sources" without specifying who they are (not looking for names, just something more detailed than "sources"). Does this situation make Meruelo look bad? Sure. Could this be the end of the Coyotes? Maybe. Did the person Meruelo put in charge of handling the land acquisition drop the ball here? Absolutely. Could someone have misinterpreted what Meruelo told his staff and jumped to the conclusion that Meruelo is "giving up" because they can't stand the guy? That's possible. Until there is an official announcement from him or what's left of the Coyotes' organization, we shouldn't be jumping to conclusions.

How Mcdavid not coming out mere minutes after losing the biggest game of his life is seen as anything but expected is beyond me. Of course he was gutted but also, he's the captain of his team. They overcame so much this season and fell short of one goal. At that time as a captain, you stay with your team and take care of the guys. How would it look if you at that time left your team to go out and claim an award for yourself? Terrible is the answer. Not ok of the league or fans to expect it of him, it could have waited.

Every minor success we had, most recently gathering would could be a great core going forward, seemed to be in spite of him. Every time we were ever in the news, even before the arena drama, all the discussion would be about how we only have 4 fans, how bad we’ve always been and will be, and how we shouldn’t even exist. He’s a fourth line AHL center, won’t ever be a star - but he took a ton of defensive zone faceoffs and was a key player due to his defensive skills. I pointed out all year good plays Riley made, and that his team knew how important he was since he was assistant captain when McIlrath got called up. The whole Conn Smythe controversy reminds me of the 2014 World Championship. Pekka Rinne singlehandedly carried a mediocre Finnish team to the final, where they unded up losing 5-2 to a stacked Russian team, backstopped by none other than Sergei Bobrovsky who had a 95,03 SV%, 1.13 GAA, 8-0-0 record and one SO through the tournament. Tournament MVP went to Rinne however, who finished with 92.83 SV%, 1.88 GAA, and a 5-3-1 record with 3 SO. Apparently some people thought it should've gone to Bobrovsky with his ridiculous statline, but Russia probably would've won even without him, while on the other hand Finland had no business making it as far as they did, with Rinne being the only reason they made it that far.
Anyways...I seem to have forgotten what the point of this whole story was. People get unreasonably angry when Bob doesn't get the MVP...maybe...? Anyway, people should just chill.
