Just got me one today, what an unbelievable piece of kit, cannot wait to get into some alternate tunings, thanks for the tutorial, -the manual isnt that user-friendly, so you have made this easier for me to fathom-out.
Agreeing with Celtic12. Faster than reading the manual. Exactly what I was looking for... I'm controlling my DAW, Synths and VST's with the GR-55. It's a whole new level. Thx
I just got the GR-55 2 days ago. I'm using the gk3 and everything is good except one issue. I can do triplets on the strings 1,2,3, and 4 and the tracking is flawless, but when I do triplets on the 5th and 6th string its not keeping up. I have the pickup raised higher on the top strings thinking that would help but it didn't. Do you have any suggestions?
Hey Big John I have the same problem. In all the tuning tutorials, you never see or hear them playing the bottom 2 strings only the top 4 strings - Help please.
I just purchased a Gr-55 site unseen. I have a question. I have a Line 5 Flextone 2 x 12 100 watt amp (modeling amp). What shat standard setup should I use the Line 6 when using the GR-55 Thank U Bro
Kia ora from NZ Big John, I know whats wrong, (because this was happening to me and thanks to the guys at the Whangarei Rock shop for figuring it out)!! You need to turn up the volume on your PA or Head or whatever is driving the GR. You are hearing 2 guitars, one is the guitar in alternate tuning, the other is from the standard tuning of the guitar. The alternate tuning is coming out of the PA/ Head, go and stand in front of the speakers with the volume up a bit, you will now only hear the alternate tuned guitar, because it is drowning out the unvolumed standard tuning of the actual guitar. So, in essence, turn it up and secondly those who are in front of the PA will only be hearing the alternate tuned guitar. Hope this has helped, cheers from down under.
man.... I'm getting an idea.... hahahha you run your guitar into this 55.... set the BASIC guitar tone you want and tuning (drop D, etc) then run that into your DAW w/o ANY other modeling/effects. THEN assign the amp modeling and effects in the DAW so that they are non-destructive and can be changed long after you've recorded. I just got my guitar back after having the Graphtech MIDI stuff installed and I plugged it into a GI-20 and cried. It was completely useless. It would not track anything beyond staccato picking at a very slow speed and wouldn't play notes beyond the 14th fret. It wouldn't do bends. it was useful only as an odd ashtray holder and as a power source for the piezos themselves. So, I may have to go with this 55 just for tracking purposes. I need something that tracks insanely close with sensitivity able to track hammer ons as well as picking and this GI-20 absolutely sucks. It's good for strumming a chord and holding it then strumming another chord. that's it. I'm going to be watching these vids and maybe get my hands on a 55 to see if it will track at least adequately enough to do most of what I'd want. Admittedly, I can play very fast and maybe these things just are not sensitive enough to keep up but I also play really cleanly and there is no excuse for it not to tell I just hit a note even if that note only lasted 30 ms. Anyway, the piezos sound good (not like a real acoustic but better than just EQing a clean tone) . So, this MIDI part is still missing for me. I was looking at those Axon unites but those are hard to find and I despise feeBay and PreyPal. But now that I see this 55... that is very interesting. The modeling to GET the tone first and then run that to my stuff. oohhhhhhhh. But then I'd have the outs connected anyway so I could record the synth stuff but I also have tons of libs on my PC so this sounds like I'm going to need more connectors. Aight.... just thinking out loud. hehehehe
I just purchased a GR 55 and none of my patches match up with the patches listed in the manual. Trying to follow your tutorial, I selected "user," and then I tried to select 11-3 as in your tutorial and the GR 55 will not give me 11-3, only 11-1 (Mahogany Tones) and 11-2 (Heavy Exp sw up 5). Can you tell me what's going on?

thank you. that is an excellent tutorial. feeling less overwhelmed by the GR55 now.
Thank you for this!!! I was getting a headache trying to figure out where to do alt tunings. Now I feel like an idiot =] Thanks again!
thanks for the demo!
Thank you sir! I never knew this existed.
Great tutorial ...
Thank you so much.....two thumbsup

Because of the tuning aspect of this, does it correct slight intonation problems as well???
