what a great place. I went up scafell pike from wasdale head, up hollow stones etc then to the left, wasnt keen on scafell pike, for all the obvious reasons, except the incredible view, but pleased I went over mickledoor and up Lords Rake onto Scafell itself. What a beautiful summit and approach. This is amazing stuff, I saw people on this face as I passed onto the rake. I was also warned of the dangers of trying to scramble up Broad Stands unprotected and unskilled. Glad i gave it a miss!x
Did CB as it is still known in 1966. We had a head on car crash outside of Ambleside, Carried on and Bivvied in Eskdale. Did CB in big mountain boots and "rubbers" black soled tennis shoes. The dieback on the second pitch would still be scary.
The cameramen in these situations are generally suspended from fixed ropes and abseil off the top rather than climbing up from the bottom. Yes you take all the equipment home and also have to carry it all the way up to the crag, which can be quite strenuous.
I was so impressed at the climber and then I realised 'what about the camera man! ' what's he hangin on to? I have no head for heights so this freaks me out, amazing video though. Do you take all that iron ware home with you by the way?
Beautiful to see the climbing on Scafell. Only walked up it so far.

nice vid guys ...have to say knowing someone did it in hobnails .. man what a rush they musta had
Sad to think of Siegfried Herford climbing here in 1914 before dying in the horror of the Western Front. What a talent was lost.
