TTTMusic i just went to phantasialand a few days ago and i think that even though the promotion for british parks is better, the rides are a lot better at phantasialand
US Rides: we are theming rides based off ghosts, haunted houses and haunted lumber mills and orchids. UK Rides: DOOMSDAY, APOCALYPSE and DEATH makes for good rides, man.
im_a_snacc I was fucking SCREAMING the entire time but it was still an AMAZING ride! I love the drop and the loops, Scariest bit is literally right before the drop
Went on swarm yesterday for my bday and it had all the effects running. Sitting back row when the water splash happened on the helix was insane. Love it.
@@ExpeditionThemePark Thanks, it was although on stealth the heavy rain felt like rocks. Love ur documentaries and they never cease to entertain. Keep up the outstanding work!
My sister wanted to go on it but once she saw it in person got too scared. It took some persuading to get her on haha. She loved it, but didn’t expect for it to be as tall as it was. It’s true that the pictures and videos don’t truly show it’s height.
See what I love about Thorpe Park is that although the overall theming of the Park is abit inconsistent. The specific theming for the rides (when they want to atleast) Disney/Universal level stuff! The Swarm has great theming and Saw the Ride has probably the best atmosphere i have ever experienced on a ride
Ah, THE SWARM. A very interesting one for me. A bit of a mixed bag. Absolutely love the coaster. However, I've always thought the theming was slightly off and I didn't know why. Watching this video I finally figured it out. LOVE the plane, church, copter etc...like the actual elements are great. But its the island. It feels like its just plonked there; not helped by it being a dead end and there being no other attractions there. The floor is like...almost immaculately clean/even/perfect. The fences around the theming give it a distinct "the chaos abruptly ends here" feel. Hmmm. We really need another attraction there, and/or, that other coaster or large attraction on the other island. Hook it up to Stealth and boom, absolutely transforms the park. You said it the start...the future is so strangely uncertain for this park.
It always feels like this would have fit so much better in Alton Towers especially with their ‘it’s a conspiracy maaaaaaaan’ marketing campaign like with Oblivion and Smiler. But I know they’re limited so much with building regulations and the like it probably wouldn’t have worked to the same degree or at least not with out a great deal of digging and reworking
@@criticalfayle7509 Yeah then the ride experience had to be very very different, you can't just dig this into the ground. It wouldve been great to have a wingcoaster going through tons of trenches and tunnels, though, would give even more headchoppers, feetchoppers, and other near misses then the Swarm does.
I have to say I agree with this quite a bit. I visited Thorpe Park for the first time the other week and, although I really enjoyed the ride, it did definitely feel that it was just plonked there. When we left we tried going one direction and was just with a fence and a no entry sign, which felt awfully abrupt. It's like there needed to be more rollercoasters or rides with the same theme to help knit it all together
Agreed - I wish the theming in the queue was more clear - it would hype up riders more. I rode it this year with no understanding of the story - I enjoyed it but didn't understand it AT ALL.
Stealth, Colossus and Hyperia are just rollercoasters in the park, with their theming being about a rollercoaster. The fish that used to be in the Amity Beach grow polluted and start flying, creating Flying Fish. In 1994 a volcano at the park erupts when the Nemesis Monster wakes up Alton Towers, which mean those 2 parks are in the same universe. They manage to clear it up, but this causes dangers in the future to be attracted to the park. Meanwhile in 2009, Jigsaw and the Saw movies are in the Thorpe Park universe. Jigsaw connects with Thorpe Park to add a ride there, but Jigsaw puts on “the ding pieces” that are actually death traps. He then kidnaps someone to see if they could withstand the thought of it, and they could so he opened the ride. After finding out, they shut the ride because it’s illegal. In 2012, the undead come from the graveyard closest to Thorpe Park. They awoke from the Nemesis signals causing vibrations in the ground that took 18 years to reach there. The zombies saw the theme park and its lights so they went there. Merlin created a safe zone for everyone visiting the park and residents nearby. The zombies break in though. The army exterminates the zombies and gains a direct signal to Thorpe Park in case anything else happens. At some point in 2014, some Angry Birds visit Thorpe Park and demand a place to stay, creating Angry Birds Land. But the pigs enter the park too, meaning they have to share the area. But that technically means Angry Birds are living creatures in this universe, which technically means that the Angry Birds universe and Thorpe Park Universe are connected. Or maybe some guys decide to make an Angry Birds themed area. But bombs are stored in the area, and they go off under a drop tower! Probably. In 2018, aliens from space see the volcano erupt. Things happening on Earth take longer to be seen from space, so now that the aliens see the volcano, they decide to go to Thorpe Park. In the summer, they reach there and cause chaos across the country. But not Staffordshire or across from there. The army goes to war with the aliens, causing a very intense battle. Eventually, the humans win, but the country is destroyed. Then in 2023, Thorpe opens a monorail underground, but it is cursed and haunted. As passengers ride, they find that it is actually not what it seems… Thorpe eventually closes the monorail. In 2024, a town called Big Easy Boulevard needs more space, and since the Angry Birds and pigs left Thorpe Park a few weeks prior, Thorpe lets Big Easy Boulevard use the empty town in the theme park. All the guests can access the town and cinema there for free, and they can use the spare cars for test drives. Now, for the Alton Towers universe…
They spend so much trying to get something unique or "worlds first" that most of the budget gets blown on how expensive these more prototype ride styles are. It means they end up with worlds first ride sure, but the rides end up being short and uninteresting outside of their respective gimmick and are usually quickly outdone by much bigger better versions of the same coaster type at other parks around the world.
@@Pear_chan thirteen was pretty naff. Also having the world's first flying coaster with Air was really cool but now it's a bit tame compared with most other flying models. Too busy chasing world's first elements rather than spending money on great attractions these days
@@bswift1991 Air is a great attraction still, it's just eventually people will outdo the original model. It doesn't make Air any less great. And 13 is great. It does exactly what its meant to; take ghost trains to a new level. They probably just wanted to streamline the process as the amount of new customers was not worth the effort of having a clunky queueing system and the more complex maintenance involved.
The Swarm is a strange one - I went on the ride and never before have I felt such a strange mixture of enjoyment and disappointment. Like, yes, it is unique in the UK with the wings and the theming is great, but the whole thing feels very quick and there just aren’t that many elements to it. A shame really. Although at least the You Me At Six song is an absolute banger. Possibly the best thing to come out of the ride.
I just love that deadpan "No." XD This honestly looks like an amazing roller coaster, just by the on-ride scenery alone. B&M's wing coasters by themselves are pretty awesome, as well!
Can we appreciate the fact you mentioned the song by you me at six !! Soooooo many people don't know about it and it's actually such a great song that fits the theme so well. And if you like the song check out the band they are amazing live !
I absolutely love the Swarm. It's my second favourite coaster in the uk behind the Smiler. (I absolutely love inversions and rlly dark theming so the Smiler is perfect for me). But anyway the theming is amazing and such a smooth ride. If you're in the front the 180° roll is insane. My favourite seat is in the front and right. I teared up because of the wind and i loved it. When I first rode The Swarm, I thought it was quite good, but nothing special. Nowadays I consider it the best ride at Thorpe Park. The theming is top notch (dare i say even better than the theming on Wickerman??) and the ride experience is smooth and thrilling. I really like The Swarm.

Never been to the UK (unless you would count a stopover at Heathrow Airport 😂) but I always find the videos about the rides there fascinating. You seem to have multiple great theme parks but I never really hear about them outside of your channel so thanks for the great videos.
This is one of my favourite rides ever. It came out right when I was really into the thrill and You me at Six. It now has such huge nostalgia for me that no ride compares. I will forever love this ride and its theming. 9 years on and I still run to this when I go to Thorpe Park
I went on this for the first time yesterday and it was really good! There was also fire coming from the fire engine every so often and it scared the life out of me every time it went off!
Loved this video. I was the first official operator and manager of THE SWARM. It was a great ride to work on but as mentioned the queuing was awkward and BIB (brave it backwards) wasn’t very popular (at least not as popular as TP thought it would be). Evacuating was tough on that lift but great to work on as a team (everyone had an earpiece and so challenges were set etc). Thanks
Great video - very well done as always. This ride is excellent and one of my Uk favourite rides. The theming needs a little refresh and the audio seems much quieter then before. Still an excellent ride that proves it’s not just about speed.
The university I went to on study abroad took us to Thorpe Park during Freshers week. Swarm was my absolute favorite at the park. Rode it multiple times in the night, the only one I rode more then once.
when i visited in august (my first visit to the park) i loved the swarm so much. it was genuinely amazing, it's my favourite coaster at the park and probably one of my favourites ive ever been on (i haven't been on many tho). the theming is amazing (especially with all the plants grown in) and it's so smooth to ride. plus the music is pretty cool.
I literally went yesterday to Thorpe Park and Swarm was only running 40% of the time i was there (10-17). Such a shame Merlin can't keep figure out upkeep after all these years running parks
went on this for the first time today and i have to say it might have been one of my favourite riding experiences on a coaster in the uk something about that first drop.... it’s just so magical and thrilling was a big fan of the song when it came out too so it was really nice to finally get a chance to ride the ride
Swarm is definitely a back row coaster for me! But the fire effect has been very rare. However, after going a few times recently (off-peak) the fire has been on and activated after every 3 trains! It’s sweet
Got to put it to the Brits, they sure know how to advertise when it comes to rides because those commericals are really good. They actually put destroyed helicopters, planes and emergency vehicles in the theming, that is dedication to the craft right there.
I’m so lucky to live 15 minutes away from Thorpe Park, Chessington and Legoland. I haven’t been to Thorpe Park before and I think I’m gonna go with a couple of my mates within the next 2 weeks. I love watching your vids so I can tell them all the info about the attractions. Keep up the great stuff mate. 👍👍👍
I love the Swarm. It’s my favourite coaster in the world and I’ve been on lots of other coasters swell that are much more intense and longer but I just love the swarm so much. I like the near miss elements and the roll you do above the station makes me scream every time. And thanks to this rollercoaster, I found out about you me ast six which is my favourite band 😅
I'm finding this video 5 years later, but I went to Thorpe Park when I was living in London in 2013 and had no idea that the Swarm didn't always have the backwards option!
Went the other week with uni friends. The sounds effects, fire and water effects were all in full swing. With new alien invasion posters and marketing all around the area! Seems like it’s had a bit of funding injected back into it!
Hello There, this is a decent video, thank you for looking into this, it's much appreciated, it was a very decent insight throughout. It's such a decent and smooth Rollercoaster with fantastic theming throughout. Cheers Peter :) p.s. the Billboard was added later in 2013. p.p.s. the theming and the layout is really immersive throughout.
I love it because it feels like flying!! I find some roller coasters a bit too twisty or bumpy so The Swarm is perfect for me. Also, going through the billboard scares the shit out of me every time
My issue with the swarm is the same with all UK themed attractions. They never fully commit. Like the fake news article in the video, she says about Thorpe park the theme park being the centre of the outbreak. This just reminds you that you are in a park and completely ruins the illusion. It just makes it clunky and feel forced. When in the big parks like universal or Disney this doesn't happen. You don't go to Harry potter world and all the staff say "welcome to Hogwarts, in the centre of universal studios theme park" because it ruins the illusion. Long enabling comment but it really gets me! 😂
But, swarm is completely isolated from the rest of the park ( except before the first drop) literally on its own island surrounded by a thick tree line
Great video, The Swarm is my fave ride at Thorpe Park. The hype of Hyperia made me think it might topple it from the top, I've only managed one ride on Hyperia but as good as it is The Swarm still holds its place for me.
The Swarm really stood out for me due to its smoothness. It may be slower than many other rides but it doesn't seem to rattle you about like most others and for me felt the most like flying more than any other rollercoaster I've been on.
I love it. It’s still a smooth ride today and, as you said, packs a lot into a short ride time. One of my two favourites in the park (Nemesis Inferno is my other top choice).
This is one of my favourite rides I find the marketing silly and cringey though It goes up there in my top 10 favourite rollercoaster 1. Taron (PhantasiaLand, Germany) 2. Air (Alton Towers. UK) [before it became galactica] 3. The Smiler 4. Nemesis (again Alton towers) 5. The Swarm 6. Colossus (Thorpe park) 7. Rita (Alton Towers) 8. Th13teen (Alton Towers) And so on The 180 flip after the chain lift isn't given enough credit Its such a rush and is so much fun. I highly encourage that you go and try it out for yourself
My sister Atlanta went to Thorpe park when the actors were roaming around. She thought they were drunk. She went a few weeks after the swarms opening, now she knows why. 😂
Rode this for the first time last week and absolutely adore it. I do find it quite forceful, especially at the apex of that helix-like element and at the bottom of the first drop. I may not have gone on Inferno [it was closed] or Stealth [did not think it was worth torturing myself over] but out of Saw, Collosus and Swarm... Swarm is deffo my favourite
Thorpe Park was my first trip in high school and I remember downloading the swarm song before I went because I was so excited. I was so fortunate to experience the fire effects which were insane and I rode the ride 3 times, once backwards. The strangest thing though was that they sold 'swarm' condoms in the gift shop; each to their own I guess? (p.s loved the video!!)
As someone who likes You me at six, I wish they played the music again. It's one of my favourite coasters after Nemises Inferno. It sucks we have a waste of space when we can add a new coaster, there has been no new coaster in years. I didn't mind the ghost train but eh, it wasnt worth the two hour wait. The rush you get going through the billboard is just amazing.
Went a few weeks ago and it was my first upside down rollercoaster. I loved it and proceeded to go on it five times. Other people might think it’s boring but it’s the best rollercoaster I’ve ever been on by far. It was for my bday as well and we got unlimited fastrack so I went on every ride.
I was lucky enough to ride it backwards in 2013 (the last time I went to Thorpe) it was an awesome experience to do. I was so excited to see a winged coaster but I agree more slow and graceful then full impact ride. But unique and definitely worth the credit ✈️🚁🚒🔥
I went on the swarm in august I loved it! The only thing I hated was the airtime. I know it is part of the theming of the ride, but it made it my #2, no 1 being inferno. Overall, fantastic ride and one of my favs!

That deadpan "no." after the ghost train advert made me laugh so hard, I ended up in a coughing fit. Well done, sir. xD
Queuing for this ride is what got me into You Me at Six
Was the best build up and anticipation for a ride EVER I remember watching the testing vids on UA-cam and managed to be there for opening day 😁
The university I went to on study abroad took us to Thorpe Park during Freshers week. Swarm was my absolute favorite at the park. Rode it multiple times in the night, the only one I rode more then once.
The swarm is a great ride. I don't care if the ride seems too short. The themeing is beautiful and the ride is so smooth.
Thank you for the credit, this might be my fave video of yours so far! I have always loved filming it!
when i visited in august (my first visit to the park) i loved the swarm so much. it was genuinely amazing, it's my favourite coaster at the park and probably one of my favourites ive ever been on (i haven't been on many tho). the theming is amazing (especially with all the plants grown in) and it's so smooth to ride. plus the music is pretty cool.
I literally went yesterday to Thorpe Park and Swarm was only running 40% of the time i was there (10-17). Such a shame Merlin can't keep figure out upkeep after all these years running parks
I still love the first inversion, it's so slow it's amazing!
i absolutely loved this ride, there was absolutely no headbanging, the experience was ultra smooth, and entire ride was delightful
went on this for the first time today and i have to say it might have been one of my favourite riding experiences on a coaster in the uk
something about that first drop.... it’s just so magical and thrilling
was a big fan of the song when it came out too so it was really nice to finally get a chance to ride the ride
I love The Swarm. Absolutely love it.
Swarm is definitely a back row coaster for me! But the fire effect has been very rare. However, after going a few times recently (off-peak) the fire has been on and activated after every 3 trains!
It’s sweet
Picflux I went in the back row. Super smooth, same as Nemesis, the back row is super smooth.
Got to put it to the Brits, they sure know how to advertise when it comes to rides because those commericals are really good. They actually put destroyed helicopters, planes and emergency vehicles in the theming, that is dedication to the craft right there.
I love that they chose You Me At Six for the soundtrack. They made an absolute alt-rock banger, as they always do.
the music in the background of this video ......... it brings back memories i forgot i had
Swarm is my (so far) my favourite rollercoaster of all time.
Love these UK videos
You should love all my videos! Kidding thanks
I’ve been terrified by The Swarm for years, always thought the lift hill and first drop would be unbearable, but its actually really chill and fun
Love these videos; being a big rollercoaster fan
The Swarm is my second favourite ride in the park, after Stealth. The Swarm is much easier to marathon though.
Hey Expedition, I just wanna say that I love watching some of your videos. Some seemed scary and some seemed really cool! Keep up the good work! 😉
Hi Kristi thank you so much!
I loved this ride although I barely get to go on rollercoasters so everything is rather exciting to me
I love it because it feels like flying!! I find some roller coasters a bit too twisty or bumpy so The Swarm is perfect for me. Also, going through the billboard scares the shit out of me every time
This is my favourite ride at Thorpe park! Last time I went, we and my friend rode it 5 times as the park was quiet
with me going to thorpe park soon watching the history of the rides will make me understand them more and these are brilliant
I think your just too old and cynical
I totally get what you mean.
It's like they are combining an advertisement with the ride story.
I agree LOL
But, swarm is completely isolated from the rest of the park ( except before the first drop) literally on its own island surrounded by a thick tree line
Great video, The Swarm is my fave ride at Thorpe Park. The hype of Hyperia made me think it might topple it from the top, I've only managed one ride on Hyperia but as good as it is The Swarm still holds its place for me.
The Swarm creatures/robots remind me of the Flying Hunter Killers from the Terminator films.
I rode front seat on this ride when I went to Thorpe. It’s such a great ride
You put so much effort in your videos. Bravo
The Swarm really stood out for me due to its smoothness. It may be slower than many other rides but it doesn't seem to rattle you about like most others and for me felt the most like flying more than any other rollercoaster I've been on.
A - Love the videos, keep it up
B - HISTORY OF AIR!!!
I love it. It’s still a smooth ride today and, as you said, packs a lot into a short ride time. One of my two favourites in the park (Nemesis Inferno is my other top choice).
Man the English have the best park ride advertisements, they're like their own dystopia AU
This ride opened on my 8th birthday
I remember seeing an advert about it on TV and I literally thought there was gonna be a war on my birthday
This is one of my favourite rides
I find the marketing silly and cringey though
It goes up there in my top 10 favourite rollercoaster
1. Taron (PhantasiaLand, Germany)
2. Air (Alton Towers. UK) [before it became galactica]
3. The Smiler
4. Nemesis (again Alton towers)
5. The Swarm
6. Colossus (Thorpe park)
7. Rita (Alton Towers)
8. Th13teen (Alton Towers)
And so on
The 180 flip after the chain lift isn't given enough credit
Its such a rush and is so much fun. I highly encourage that you go and try it out for yourself
What is your opinion on black mamba and Colorado Adventure at phantasia land
My sister Atlanta went to Thorpe park when the actors were roaming around. She thought they were drunk. She went a few weeks after the swarms opening, now she knows why. 😂
Rode this for the first time last week and absolutely adore it. I do find it quite forceful, especially at the apex of that helix-like element and at the bottom of the first drop. I may not have gone on Inferno [it was closed] or Stealth [did not think it was worth torturing myself over] but out of Saw, Collosus and Swarm... Swarm is deffo my favourite
Really enjoyed this video! ☺️
Yay!!! Love The Swarm!!!
Woo!
Youmeatsix did a killer job with the song
Where's the inbetweeners at? Be pretty easy to spot w one hauling a car door and the other in Speedos
and Neil getting stung by wasps.
We ❤️ The Swarm - short but so awesome especially at night! Bring back #BraveItBackwards 😱
Another fantastic video Sam thanks
Can you do history of nemesis inferno next please just a suggestion
Thorpe Park was my first trip in high school and I remember downloading the swarm song before I went because I was so excited. I was so fortunate to experience the fire effects which were insane and I rode the ride 3 times, once backwards. The strangest thing though was that they sold 'swarm' condoms in the gift shop; each to their own I guess? (p.s loved the video!!)
Great insite thank you. Thumbs up from me, keep up the great videos.
Nick Hutson has added the new soundtrack to the area, adding to the theming. Also THEY’RE USING THE FULL SONG AGAIN!
What was your fav?
Probably swarm and stealth
I was lucky enough to ride it backwards in 2013 (the last time I went to Thorpe) it was an awesome experience to do. I was so excited to see a winged coaster but I agree more slow and graceful then full impact ride. But unique and definitely worth the credit ✈️🚁🚒🔥
Sadly the Merlin hype and marketing is often better than the actual ride itself.
That said the swarm is a solid coaster but nothing special.
In my opinion, the Swarm is so far my favourite rollercoaster of all time.
Great video about a great ride was very exciting when it opened and it's still mine and my wifes favourite ride at Thorpe park :)
I went on the swarm in august I loved it! The only thing I hated was the airtime. I know it is part of the theming of the ride, but it made it my #2, no 1 being inferno. Overall, fantastic ride and one of my favs!
Love the theming for this ride especially the head chopper
