The documentary features renowned experts in the field and also New Yorkers who remember seeing Jenkins perform. The Florence Foster Jenkins Story also presents archival discoveries-private, previously unpublished photos as well as original audio recordings. We should all live with the confidence of Florence Foster Jenkins
I don't want to live in that world
That could get a person impeached.
Not a chance.
Liberals took that approach to raising their kids and look what happened to them.
If they suck they need to know it or else they're in for a big let down.
Building confidence is one thing. Guiding them into a false outcome is another.
At whose expense...?
@@AngryHybridApe People still loved and adored her and now she's a legend.
I discovered Florence Foster Jenkins in my late teens (over 50 years ago) in N Ireland and laughed with everyone else. All these decades later I am listening again in S Africa, but now I feel more sadness than amusement. The fact that she died broken hearted, just 5 weeks after her disastrous performance at Carnegie Hall, sadly shows just how cruel we can be to eachother. RIP Florence. I hope you have been given perfect pitch. Brava Joyce DiDonato for portraying perfectly the Florence she thought she was.
👏👏👏
You cant blame the people for breaking her heart. That was inevitable.
The people closer to her should have had the courage to tell her before it snowballed into a false sense of greatness.
Her self perception as a singer is no more a failure than their self perception of love.
I live in ni right now, it’s so nice to hear that youre away some where else, I’m going to move to London when I’m older
@@bigbori8716 Hi Lucy, I moved to London when I was 20 to study singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama for 4 years. London is where my soul stays and I try to get back at least once a year. I also pop over to Belfast and Newtownabbey to catch up with old friends. Good luck with a move to London. It can be lonely unless you get in with the right crowd. I have booked for the Nathalie Stutzman concert in London in May and then on to Belfast. I am listening to Boris Johnson's announcements with baited breath!
@@lizmegginson1614 It’s so inspiring that you chased you’re dreams, I want to be a actress\singer on the west end, I don’t have many people to look up to, and somethings I doubt myself, but I can only do my best! The fact that you just went of it is inspiring
Is nobody going to talk about how great the actress is in this little show? how difficult it is to sing off key on purpose while acting like you're taking yourself seriously?
Well said and I agree. I think only Joyce DiDonato could have pulled this off so perfectly!
Yes younhave to be an exceptional singer to do this!
She’s fabulous - her good singing is fabulous, and her bad singing is spot on. She absolutely brought Florence Foster Jenkins to life
Where can I hear the real one singing
@@pereiraplaza222they play small clips of florence singing. It's awful. In the best way possible.
She sounds better than a lot of people today without auto tune.
She sounds like lady gaga to me. Acapella Lady Gaga
In which minute can I hear her singing I only see a modern day actress?
@@pereiraplaza222 they flip back and forth. First it'll be the actress. Then the real. As if the story is being told as she would hear herself and then how others would hear her. She was bad no doubt about it but that was the whole point. Those nose up their up rump critics just didn't get it and couldn't stand that a common lady sold out Carnegie and did it faster than any other act in history.
It’s like she’s purposely hitting every second note, she makes me smile.
I think she's fantastic 👏
"They said I couldn't sing, but no one can ever say I didn't sing." -- Meryl Streep as FFJ
Unburdened by talent. Unfettered by ability.
Excellent.
Or insight
The visualization of her perception and the reality were fantastic in this documentary/reenactment.
"She didn't mean to do it, but she's dead and it doesn't matter."😂😂😂
THAT KILLEDD MEE🤣🤣🤣
Savagely honest
There’s something so beautiful about the incredible dedication to something you love so much even when your talent may not measure up. She was going to perform and never even let it cross her mind once that it wasn’t the best in the world. Delusional? Maybe, but we can all learn a little bit from her confidence. Wouldn’t it all be amazing if we had an audience for our life long passions even if we weren’t “good” at them? Lovely story telling!
I agree with your sentiment but most of us already have that... it's called, our parents .
Parents are often delusional also lol!
It's a nice sentiment and you seem a kind soul but as a music producer it is hard on some of our well trained ears. I have never in my life told anyone they are awful but I'd like people to tell me honestly if I fancied myself an Astronaut lol 👍
Courage. The inspiration to tell someone you love so much that their singing is horrible.
I laughed so hard. I was in a bad mood. Thank you. 🙏
She died brokenhearted because people back there can be so mean. She is just showing her passion, singing, but people mock her
When you have enough money to buy your own consolation prizes.
Said every person of today's generation.
Today it doesn't take money. Trade money for pity or offense.
When that money could've been spent in far, far better ways.
She just sings outside the 12 tone temperament of western music.
She's singing 4d opera while most people can only handle 3d opera
So... She was basically the Tommy Wiseau of opera!
This is just beautifully done. It’s sad to hear she was ill. I love the shoe for a hat. She’s incredibly weird and I’m so down for it!
Florence Foster is now my new morning workout music
I choked laughing. This is great. Confidence
She sold Carnegie Hall. Success by any measure! 😀
She deserves her place in history. I see so many women today standing on her back. I hate that she read those reviews. Great story!
Eccentricity can be refreshing and uplifting besides being original ..! I love this lady who showed all above ..! She is definitely my kind of people...! 💕❤️
She was royalty in her own story. I love it. Same here!
What a talented crying chihuahua, is almost sounds like an opera singer 👌🏼
So she is the OG queen of punk rock or something
This video and channel is about to blow up
Rip to my ears, I’m using my headphones, there should be a warning ⚠️ for this before they play her songs. We should all have confidence like her, it makes us unique and I think that’s probably why she’s famous, it’s because she was very unique in her own way especially with her confidence
Bravo! Sing Florence, sing!
I have an uncomfortable feeling that that's what my whistling sounds like to others.
"With a name like 'Smuckers' it's gotta be good." -The Narrator
We have one too in our country, she had concerts but she was one of the highly regarded actresses her name is Anne Curtis
😂😂😂😂
What a spectacular story, and what an amazing method to tell her story. I loved this so much!!
Now I’m listening to her albums on Apple Music!
I didn’t find her to be as horrendous, as you spoke her to be. She believed in herself and followed her dreams, at all cost. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
She sang better than I sing and I enjoy singing.
She’ is only the worlds worst opera! singer. She’s not the worlds worst singer. She has a high voice that does not have an all together unpleasant tone. She just can’t sing the right note. I’ve seen much worse in community choirs.
Oh she is the world's worst singer! She sounds exactly like the worst choir singers I've ever heard.
yeah i love her voice tho
Now, Joyce is a diva with a truly beautiful voice. This role must have been very difficult for her to do. I've seen her in many operas and she is an American jewel!
Omg...ya learn something new everyday! Thank you! Enjoyed this very much...for some strange reason..😄
Wow imagine living a life you fully created 💗 this woman is my mentor. Be the life you desire to live.
Nice , totally agree she is inspirational!
God Bless her, you can't say that she didn't give it a good old go! She was brave and sincere above all else. She loved Opera, loved to sing and followed her dream. I love that the majority of her fans loved her for her authenticity and that no-one wanted to hurt her by telling the truth for so many years, they just acceptedand embraced her for who she was. I think it must be easier to be an amateur, untalented Opera Singer than it is to be a Critic - how must they have felt when she died? I'm sure some of them found it difficult to live with themselves after x
I doubt they cared. After all, they were right about her.
I think this is me in my previous life, good job I'm broke in this one 😂
She was fabulous! 💃
Meryl Streep does a magnificent impersonation in the movie, as does Hugh Grant as her husband. Very sad but he loved her.
Sensational.
Thank you Florence.
Great Doc. Keep up the good work ReTold!! 👍🏽👏🏽
38:14 I legit didn’t even realize that was a freaking shoe on her head haha wtf
Her passion love and respect for music shines through!
And ... She studied and learned the music and lyrics
This is what all mumble rappers sound like without auto tune.
Agree
Those bits with the actress playing Florence sounding "good" in her view are so extra and beautiful haha ❤️
I love her story, there should be more of her.
Is this a new UA-cam channel? Great documentary! I love documentaries with acting in them.
Hey Dylan! Thank you! You might like our videos then. We are a new channel about docudramas/reenacted documentaries... Feel free to subscribe! :)
Delightfully terrible. My dog started howling when she heard her voice. Very funny!
Absolutely Magnificent.
She had a very punk rock attitude! And she sounds great to me
The power of believing in yourself. Bravo!
I would like anyone interested in the life of Florence to watch another documentary about her by Donald Collup: "Florence Foster Jenkins: A World Of Her Own ". Very respectfully done. This one has it's moments for sure, but Collup's documentary digs down a little deeper into her life and achievements. She was a dedicated lady and very involved in the world of music & the arts.
The first thing that came to my mind was the Florence "nightingale" from Tintin the adventures of?
The comics making fun of her singing and captain what's his name always made me smile.
Captain Hadock
Bianca Castafiore?
She is fabulous
Reminds me of the time I went to a musical at my friends high school. They were doing Shrek the musical and the main actor did such a HORRIBLE job with the accent that he ended up doing 5 different accents throughout the performance. I heard after that night, they told him to do no accent at all.
She’s definitely unique, but I remember laughing to myself throughout that musical because it was just SOOOO bad.
Joyce DiDonato is perfect in this! The shoe hat just cracks me up.
Woo hoo! Subscribed to 'Retold', who only has 280 subs so far! Love being on the 'cutting edge' of new YT channels 😃
Hey Caroline! Thanks for subscribing 💙
@@Retold ❤ thanks for giving me something to watch and listen to while I work, besides askreddit videos 😄
It took me 40 minutes to realize that she's wearing a shoe on her head.
I didn't realize it at all until you mentioned it, lol. How bizarre!
Was Tin Tin’s Bianca Castiofore (awful opera singer) based on her?
Omg! I totally forgot about her! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, sounds about the same as me singing
I remember watching the movie Florence Foster Jenkins with Meryl Streep. Great movie, I recommend it.
She outshines Yoko Ono. Everyday and twice on Sunday.
The ghost of her vanity disliked your video 😐... as for me 😀 👍🏾
My dog howled while listening to her singing. I always trust the judgement of my dog.
I’m so confused about the shoe on her head
Statement hat for a Statement Lady.
I'm thinking it's mockery?
Stolen from Terry Gilliam's film "Brazil".
We all are.
There was a period of fashion when it was popular to wear shoe hats. It was a surrealist thing.
I think she was fabulous 😍
This is what i actually sound like when i sing to myself xD
The world have room for a few Florence's. It is charming.
But participation trophies for everyone is a plaque.
They're not always plaques, sometimes they are ribbons or trophies or certificates
Sure some trophies are plaques, but I only have so much room to hang these participation plaques on my wall!
Just like the best, nobody forgets the worst.
Thank you! 👏🏼
Is that a green high hilled shoe on her head? 💕
She loved singing & so she sang💕 Bravo 👍
Any time I play a recording of FFJ singing, my cat will run over and start biting my foot.
Rich people really can do whatever they want
I agree...look at Trump! 🤣
What about sleepy Joe? I laugh so hard each time he looses his mind talking to the press or geving a speech. When are they going to make him take the IQ test? Or is he going to go down in history as the FFJ of US Presidents? 🤭
Can we have a full list of all the music used in the documentary please?

I, too, believe that I am a talented opera singer, and I also want to host my own Ball of the Silver Skylarks.
Imagine waiting that long for someone to answer the dam phone lol dam girl answer my call😂😂
Who did they get to play her? Imagine that call from your agent!
Agent: yo, you’re terrible at singing right?!? I’v got a job for you!
The actor playing Florence is opera singer Joyce Didonato. 😂😂
Meryl Strèep starred in the film. Superb.
“she hit her head in a taxi… And thought she wasn’t even better singer than before”
This is almost as good as that asian guy on the third season or whatever of american idol. What was his name william hung? He was so bad he spawned a show spinoff devoted to horrible singers.
William hung 😂😂 I saw him in person at the mall (he did a free performance) lol I’ll never forget his attempt at ricky Martin
@@kfarm3858 I know right!
Dude was so bad it was glorious. I bought his CD I hated every second of it but I bought it because the dude deserved the tiny amount of money he got off of me. If you're that bad but yet that brave to go up at stage the least I could do is listen to you
I hate opera, but I love Florence Foster Jenkins. Not becuase of her singing, but how happy she could make herself feel. I don't think she was oblivious of her voice AT ALL. I think she did it anyway because it made her happy. She loved music, but she trolled the hell out of NY polite society before it was ever cool. If I had a "persona" like that which achieved two things: it made ME happy and the audience enjoyed it DESPITE of how bad the singing was. She was a commedienne with a love of classical music. If she knew it or not, she was great. I wish I could see her only once in my life.
I'd love it if this were true but sadly I do think she was unaware if her lack of talent .
La vie boheme!!
Me: I don’t get it, she sounds lovely. Is it just me? (color fades) Ooohhh...
Well she is famous worst singer, so she is not as worst as someone who is not famous.. so she is not the worst
thats some Kardashian logic
Anthony Kiedes is still up there with the absolute worst...
I agree!

👍🏾😂😂!
Shes pretty bad dude
@44:00 ish, whats this piece of music? I love it
Was a movie made about madam Jenkins? She used to put on concerts in her home?
I can’t remember the name, but they made a movie about her. I’d never heard of her and I didn’t know it was true until I stumbled on this video. It’s so unbelievably outrageous, I should’ve known it was true, you just can’t make this kind of shit up😂
Nobody interviewed had the guts ...
.. to say the honest truth; in America there is nothing more enjoyable than watching a rich person making an absolute aaahole of themselves.
I thought that was Britain.
Why do they keep saying it as Wilkes Berry? Its Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. I'm not from there but I've been there many times as a truck driver. So, do people from there call it Wilkes Berry? I've never heard that before.
Did she not notice the audience laughing?
Ah, the brief bliss of unchallenged self-belief! 👄💅💐👑
What happened to the husband that gave her syphilis at age 15 is my question.
if it was syphilis that caused her to not recognize her lack of talent.
this is a shame and a disgrace.
Was the man that gave her this disease brought to justice ?
he was a doctor after all.
Was shoe-on-head a thing?
Yep! Period of surrealist fashion
That’s so hard to listen to seriously, but ya it is funny!
She was in the Ring as Teddy Roosevelt said. The only failure is not being in the Ring risking it all by participating and competing.
Rehearsals had to have been grueling😞
Anyone else remember Mrs. Miller?
