I love dumb theories, but can somebody tell me what that whole, counting carbon footprint of cars by their fuel capacity was? Makes zero sense. Fuel consumption and distance they travel is what really matters. By his logic every car they see on screen just drive until their tank runs empty. Makes me question his methods sometimes, when he makes such massive mistakes. Here is the real method with numbers I just made up. Lets say you have 10 cars driving a 10 km race. As they are super cars and accelerate a lot, lets say they use 5 liters of fuel per km. So 10 cars * 5 L/km * 10 km. That is 500 liters of fuel. That is how you do it. Very simple.

Just gonna put this in here. During the part that MatPat was talking about how Brian and Mia drove from Los Angeles to Rio De Janeiro got me thinking, how long would that take...? Then I looked at Google maps and found that there are no roads past Yaviza Panama. The road literally just ends at a river port. Unless they got some kind of ferry to float them to somewhere that could get them into Colombia to drive the rest of the way to Rio De Janeiro, their trip ended right at an airport in Southern Panama. It's a dumb action franchise that involves all kinds of Easter eggs that only car guys will see, and loads of great humor. Great theory Matt, it's just your wording when you said "equalling out to roughly 0.115 metric tons" the "roughly" wasn't needed since 115kg is exactly 0.115t

3:18 if you are comparing it to the average SUV driver's commute probably way less than you think. yes, pushing a 1000 hp engine to the max, is going to create a lot of CO2, but it's never for a very long period of time. My guess is, based on what I know about the fast franchise is that all the hero cars combined probably add up to around a couple months of commuting for someone who dailies a Chevy Tahoe is similarly big vehicle.
19:06 well yeah, because the carbon footprint was coined by BP to get them off the hook for their pollution. if you look at the top CO2 emitters on earth it's all energy companies (oil and gas) with everyone else coming in a distant second. If I recall correctly the defense industry is next, and then logistics.
I got a bit worried when you started the bit at the end about individuals, but was massively relieved when you brought it back around to the companies that are ultimately responsible for the problem in the first place. Good on ya :)
It was actually really interesting seeing real science applied to movies that are so completely absurd. It is also surprising just how little emissions there are across these movies. I too thought it would be a lot more than 3 hours in New York, and it is actually shocking to hear. I think if we can come up with a more eco-friendly approach to planes, then we have a much better chance of sorting the greenhouse gas emissions problem, as it's all good for us to switch to an EV, but while we still have planes going about all day, emitting far more than we can in our lifetime, the problem is much more difficult to fix. Thank you, MatPat. I can't believe there's only 3 left.
"How big is the carbon footprint of the F&F series?" A mere speck of what the airplanes carrying the "ecologists" to WEF meetings to complain about OUR "impact" do.
Let alone the fact that MOST of the supposed CO2 entering the atmosphere actually NEVER goes into the atmosphere. CO2/Carbon footprints do not account for Catalytic converters or Carbon scrubbers that at their WORST are over 70% effective at reducing emissions. More scare tactics by businesses everywhere to shift the blame to consumers rather than themselves.
It was a good video but at 11:42 you have put Britain and Ireland together when they are two separate countries sorry to everyone else who gets bothered by this but having the Union Jack over Ireland is just a pet peeve of mine
This video prompts me to ask a question I've been meaning to. Is there someone on your team partial to the Nissan 300zx? I've seen images of it used and many videos across each of your channels. Maybe it is just a coincidence, but who knows lol
Love how Matpat usually finds an odd pattern that shows how we can be pushed to think a certain way. That google search about carbon emissions and having it flipped on us is wild. I would never have taken thought twice about it otherwise. Need to pick up matpats ability to do this
Reminder that if you were to cut your carbon footprint to 0 from birth to death, you prevent the same amount of CO2 that the biggest carbon emitters, large corporate companies, generate in a seconds Also I didn’t do any research this is just what I read somewhere once
An individual's carbon footprint doesn't matter. What matters is the pollution from organizations like companies and governing bodies. Holding orgs accountable is infinitely more important than tracking your own personal use.
Trying to explain to someone that electric cars actually run on coal because people make way too much money to actually rely on nuclear. Not to mention everything that goes into making the batteries for those cars and what goes into putting them together.
Thanks to the Fast and Furious Movies all the plants and trees out there in the world have 17,787.04 Metric tons of fresh CO2 to breathe and exhale 17,787.04 Metric tons of O2 we humans need to live…
Matpat: this will be a fun, silly willy, non serious video also mat 3 min later *alanayses all the cars with carbon footprints and CO2 missions, and tries to calculate the specs*
My brain: It’s been almost a month! You need to watch some theories. Me: But it’s so sad because MatPat is retiring! My brain: Just do it. I love this theory. Thank you for everything, Matt.
Fun fact (12:25), that spat at the end of fast 6 about the baby oil and the rock's response was entirely unscripted. The spit take from luda was 100% genuine. It was supposed to be a serious moment of the rock walkin up to dom.
19:40 Basically, what I got from this is that it doesn't even matter how eco-friendly you are, companies just love polluting too much for you to make a difference. So might as well give up because we can't stop the corporations.
(Not so) fun fact: British Petroleum popularized the term "carbon footprint" in the early 2000s to promote the idea that climate change is not the fault of an oil giant, but that of individuals.
This feels like such a classic/old episode with the way it is edited. And the intro in the beginning is the cherry on the top.

Come on mattpat. You can't seriously put the CO2 emitions from simply supplying gas to other people on them.
Reduce our carbon footprint? Laughing in Chinese and Indian.
12:30 That line was improvised by The Rock
Lol
I was looking for this :p
Has anyone seen anything written in green or red in this video
"How big is the carbon footprint of the F&F series?"
A mere speck of what the airplanes carrying the "ecologists" to WEF meetings to complain about OUR "impact" do.
It was a good video but at 11:42 you have put Britain and Ireland together when they are two separate countries sorry to everyone else who gets bothered by this but having the Union Jack over Ireland is just a pet peeve of mine
yep
This video prompts me to ask a question I've been meaning to. Is there someone on your team partial to the Nissan 300zx? I've seen images of it used and many videos across each of your channels. Maybe it is just a coincidence, but who knows lol
Love how Matpat usually finds an odd pattern that shows how we can be pushed to think a certain way. That google search about carbon emissions and having it flipped on us is wild. I would never have taken thought twice about it otherwise. Need to pick up matpats ability to do this
4:00 I am HERE for mildly interesting 😁
Reminder that if you were to cut your carbon footprint to 0 from birth to death, you prevent the same amount of CO2 that the biggest carbon emitters, large corporate companies, generate in a seconds
Also I didn’t do any research this is just what I read somewhere once
An individual's carbon footprint doesn't matter. What matters is the pollution from organizations like companies and governing bodies. Holding orgs accountable is infinitely more important than tracking your own personal use.
9:33 holy they even counted that 😂
0:55 I just shat my pants!
Trying to explain to someone that electric cars actually run on coal because people make way too much money to actually rely on nuclear. Not to mention everything that goes into making the batteries for those cars and what goes into putting them together.
First
Congrats
You were actually first
Yup! Your actually first!
You are first
Let’s go
Homie complains about how much we spend on carbon footprint but then proceeds to also upload a video of eating meat dishes. Okay, I see you.
When you realize that vin diesel made half of the earnings from the f&f franchise by saying 3 words repeatedly 😂
Thanks to the Fast and Furious Movies all the plants and trees out there in the world have 17,787.04 Metric tons of fresh CO2 to breathe and exhale 17,787.04 Metric tons of O2 we humans need to live…
Matpat: this will be a fun, silly willy, non serious video
also mat 3 min later *alanayses all the cars with carbon footprints and CO2 missions, and tries to calculate the specs*
I would personally argue that the Hello Neighbour trailer analysis was the epitome of a dumb episode. That was the best part.
FINALLY! THIS is the film theory I remember
Yeah
Fast and the Furious really is one of the GOAT franchises. First 4 were good, but 5, 6 & 7 were the best. 8 & 9 were ok, 10 was pretty good.
I really loved these passion projects! I hope the theory fellas also get to theorize on their passions. I would love to watch that.
The dumb episodes are my FAVORITE.
Seems like his prediction on how this video would do is so far wrong
Great video 👍
My brain: It’s been almost a month! You need to watch some theories.
Me: But it’s so sad because MatPat is retiring!
My brain: Just do it.
I love this theory. Thank you for everything, Matt.
What is this “3 theories left” business???? What have I missed?????
Fun fact (12:25), that spat at the end of fast 6 about the baby oil and the rock's response was entirely unscripted. The spit take from luda was 100% genuine. It was supposed to be a serious moment of the rock walkin up to dom.
19:40
Basically, what I got from this is that it doesn't even matter how eco-friendly you are, companies just love polluting too much for you to make a difference. So might as well give up because we can't stop the corporations.
We need more “dumb” episodes
Also we need a class of “09” theory
So what exactly is the theory? Motor racing causes pollution? Excellent.
Game Theory’s intro has changed a ton over the years but I really appreciate how the Film Theory one is the same one we’ve always had, never changed.
This might be the ONE theory where the bad guys... really are the bad guys. A VERY refreshing change, you have no idea.
this channel spawned my love of film, thank you Mat for everything you have done on this channel.
Owning Film Theory must be such a good excuse to binge movies 😭
"But hey, That's just a theory. A film theory. Aaaaand cut."
I am gonna miss this man! 😢😢😢😢😢😢
You said using energy you cant use energy you can only convert energy
Top 5 theory right here.
We’re gonna miss this channel MattPat but I know you’re moving onto bigger and better things so I can’t be mad
Please do HMIS before you retire!!!!
(Not so) fun fact: British Petroleum popularized the term "carbon footprint" in the early 2000s to promote the idea that climate change is not the fault of an oil giant, but that of individuals.
My inner car nerd was so happy hearing you read all those cars off. 😂
