plus it was a 308gt4 which handled even worse than the 308, im struggling to remember what hillclimb track that was but its in england, if your interested in seeing the entire track and a car doing the whole thing, a hillman imp(all sunbeam imp in US) abeit a heavily modified spaceframed version, search kevin cole 1040 imp, there are two vids but the one you want has thumbnail pic of where the ferrari actually span out. theres a left hander just before it span :)
either he meant oversteer or because it understeered so much the driver might have over corrected it and gave a little too much gas causing a spin out.
@@PilotTed tbh there is little reason atall for that car to spin out there, it should have settled down easily after the left hander before there, possibly inexperienced and came round it way too fast or its almost as tho something went wrong with the car, blow out on other side or something? either way its not a 308 and the 308 handled better than this car, who knows but ive left a search above so you can see how the track leads up to there if anyone curious :)
it didn't really oversteer tho: it did something called a "scandinavian pendulum" without meaning it... it's a technique used in rally to force oversteer and the sliding of the rear tyres using as little breakes as possible, and it involves turning sharply on the opposite direction of the turn, and, as soon as the weight shifts, countersteer. that causes the back of the car to lose traction, sending you in a spin if you don't know what you're doing, but in a controlled drift if you know how to use it... the guy clearly didn't :D
It’s not about the speed or preference it’s about the feelings and just cold starting a classic car feels thousand times better than going top speed in a chevy equinox

The stock image of the Honda Odessa at 0:21 was edited by me! I work at JD Power and used to work in the stock photo editing department 😊 it’s so cool seeing my work out in the wild ❤ I still have the original file and even have written an automation action that exports the car in every colour it came in that year in USA and Canada. Those colours were then verified by a colourist to make sure it was accurate and then the images were sold to basically every vendor looking for stock images (eg: auto trader). Fun fact; the windows are actually rolled down, and then fake ones put in. It’s to manage the reflections on the glass so you can see inside the drivers window. Let me know if you need a stock image deal, I still work there but these days I do the weekly updates to the “build and price” web app of all the Stellantis owned car brands (eg: dodge, ram, Alfa, jeep, etc)
@@Bartonovich52 Idling a diesel uses around a gallon on fuel per hour (from 0.6 to 1.4 depending on size and technology). That's actually really efficient considering the size of a trucks engine and it almost always has its climate control on and it has to power all of the cabins electronic equipment.
@@Bartonovich52 The 15% actually comes from thermodynamics and has nothing to do with idling. Most of the stored energy in gasoline is lost to heat, friction, sound, and exhaust; only about 15% is converted into mechanical energy at the crankshaft. Diesel has a higher energy density and a much higher efficiency, closer to 30% iirc. This was from a class I took about 15 years ago, so engines may have become efficient; but diesel still has an edge.
Me too, especially the 1968-1970 muscle cars that were massively overpowered yet running on awful everyday 60s tyres. Also im wondering where donut is getting these 0-60 times, because everywhere i look i find different answers.

I was driving up a steep hill (at 75 mph ) in a 2002 ford explorer 4.0 v6 and a Toyota rav 4 flew past me I was kind of irritated. But if you are above 70 mph it won't drop into a passing gear. Even if it did pretty sure the toyota still would've pulled away. But I was also rolling 8 deep in a 7 passenger vehicle. But yeah that toyota went up that hill much easier than I could.
Dropping gears might be what the cube did. Probably was driving in manual and dropped back to 5th. That's the only way I drive unless I'm eating and driving then I'll use automatic. I do the opposite on steep hills. I slow down then wait until I get to the apex to speed back up when I have gravity on my side. I'm all about maximizing my MPG.

Can't understand what's so special about an old Mercedes sedan. I'm not trying to be sarcastic, I seriously don't get why people love those cars. It doesn't have a rotary engine, or rear wheel steering, not even AWD and it's engine is not behind the seats. From my perspective it's just a performance sedan kinda like modern day C63 AMG. Is't C63 AMG even more boring than the likes of Ford Explorer or Honda Odissey?
@@ldmtag have you even driven a good mercedes of that era? air ride and zero offset suspension that just soaks up abuse, they give you absolute confidence and the level of qaulity and design you experience only drives that notion home. They set and kept the standard for luxury performance sedans for good reason 🤦♂️ they envisioned generations of vehicles to both carry and represent their brand decades before they were even developed and pushed the boundaries of the automotive industry with over engineered (and underappreciated) systems that sometimes worked quite well. Hey Nolan I had a 1989 Ford Festiva back in1998 my uncle put a supercharger as a joke on it..talk about a Bat Out Of Hell..we put low pro 50 series tires & weighed down the rear end with sand bags to keep it stable
I’m glad he mentioned bias ply tires. I was going to say, these numbers are off by as much as 0.5 seconds for the muscle cars due to tire differences. Not to mention how often manufacturers downplayed performance of cars back then for insurance reasons
A few years ago we had to break it to my dad that his 1993 Mercedes 500E was slower 0-60 and in the 1/4 mi than a V6 Camry. He thought his 500E was the fastest car on the planet. A small part of him died that day.
I know the feeling. When you find out you paid way too much for "horsepower" only to find out high school kids with minmum wage jobs are out pacing you with bolt on "performance parts" on 4 bangers.... ouch! my feelings...
One of my favorite all-time cars was my 1998 Chevy Metro 3 cylinder, with a 5 speed manual. If you put too much weight in it, it would get a speed wobble at 40. If I drafted well on the interstate I could get 60 mpg on the highway
Old lady use to bring Geo Metro 3 cylinder 5 speed 2 door hatch to the shop I worked at in 2004. She never wanted to spend a dime on it, had bald tires, cheapest tires I ever priced 12 inch rims. I thought she was going to faint when we told her how much new tires cost flat out rejected the idea of every replacing them. Come one Monday morning she is on the phone before we open in a panic because car broke down don't know how she got it to the shop but I know she didn't pay for a tow. Mechanic replaced broken timing belt car ran terrible, compression gauge showed one dead cylinder. We called her she was there within 15 minutes to pick up the car mad as hell about the bill and the fact that the engine was damaged from interference when the timing belt broke. She drove that two cylinder Geo Metro around town for years usually with a line of traffic behind her.
I drove one that I bought from a dealers back lot. Told me it only ran on 2 cylinders. Said if I had 100 bucks, they'd fill out the paperwork if I'd drive it off their lot. Drove that turd for three years on 2 cylinders. It would only hit 45mph, and it was the shitty 3sp auto, but damn was it fun. I love driving turds.
You can have fast or reliable. But really, cars came a long way in the last 40 or 50 years. Any new turbo-diesel with similar capacity can do circles around any 1.9TDI, without leaving the signature black plume of smoke behind.
@@MaxHalatTV she wisely chose the 1.9d, had she went with the turbodiesel, and it probably had spilled it's guts by now. New 1.9dci can last, but they need good maintenance, good oil new rod caps every 100000km....
My wife's little 2019 Trax and her "old" 2015 Equinox (which our sons drive) are surprisingly quick and agile. However, I after 33 years of driving my '88 IROC during spring-through-fall, I will take that over them any day.
The biggest limiter of 1960s musclecar acceleration is and always was tires. They often came stock with narrow bias ply tires. Even a set of modern all season tires drastically improve getting them off the line; let alone filling the wheelwell with a wide drag radial.

What’s getting overlooked is that the majority of what kills the older cars is tires technology of the day. A bone stock hemi cuda which ran low 14s did so on bias ply tires that were 8 inches wide at best with a very hard compound. A modern set of rubber on every last one of the cars listed can drop a full second off of 0-60 times and a seconds off of quarter mile times. I know we are talking about original stock vs original stock but there are very few cars that run around on oem rubber. You’re going to end up with a bunch of kids in scions running up on muscle cars and getting embarrassed because they think they are are faster when in reality these cars in factory trim still make 300,400, and close to 500hp still.

Watchandjewelryloft I’ve had the same reaction to my supercharged coyote mustang I drive everyday. Why do I need 500 whp, the truth is I don’t but I wanted it and I can afford it so I did it.
I would say you don’t want a massive deviation from car to car in how they perform. Speed limits are much higher today. Do you want a car with a 13 second 0 to 60 time trying to merge onto a highway with an 85mph speed limit, and not enough acceleration to get up to highway speed before the merge ramp runs out? If you see anything from a model T to a 1960s car cruising on the highway you just assume it’s going slower than normal traffic at this point.

Racing is where vehicles get their advancements, fuel injection, suspension, rolling gear transmissions, active aero and the materials. We use the same technology for better fuel consumption so basically we are driving cars with racing technology for mpg and reliability with some cheap parts to cut costs.
J M the NC chassis is actually made based off the RX-8 chassis...........so no no the ND Miata which came out in 2016 did not influence the RX-8 which came out in 2001 and just for reference the NC came out in 2005 so they spent a few years basically combining the old NB Miata with the RX-8 and poof we now have the yata, the boat, or the NC Miata.
You should make another 5 to 10 cars that are faster than 5 to 10 cars muscle cars again. Even the big muscle cars like the chevelles with 454's cars that are actually faster than that that are pretty cheap. This was a good video and I really enjoyed it I'd like to see more.

"The 308 was prone to understeer"
Proceeds to show oversteering 308
plus it was a 308gt4 which handled even worse than the 308, im struggling to remember what hillclimb track that was but its in england, if your interested in seeing the entire track and a car doing the whole thing, a hillman imp(all sunbeam imp in US) abeit a heavily modified spaceframed version, search kevin cole 1040 imp, there are two vids but the one you want has thumbnail pic of where the ferrari actually span out. theres a left hander just before it span :)
Actually that’s a Mondial
either he meant oversteer or because it understeered so much the driver might have over corrected it and gave a little too much gas causing a spin out.

"Only 15% of your fuel is turned to mechanical power"
*laughs in diesel*
You mean 10%?
Because just about every goddamn diesel idles for hours and hours. Remember.. idling was included in those losses.

Power*
@@TheT-800 thank you, I fixed it.
I, a Miata, approve of this comment.
@@genista9910 thank you o'Lord.
"Retired pokemon master (he was the very best)" I wasn't specting that but i loved it lmao
Have you played Sword/Shield?
Those "low FPS shots" are really annoying, can't tell if my PC is dying or what.

Yes finally someone said it
Seme here
Yeah, strains the eyes!
get over it geez bro
You should make another 5 to 10 cars that are faster than 5 to 10 cars muscle cars again. Even the big muscle cars like the chevelles with 454's cars that are actually faster than that that are pretty cheap. This was a good video and I really enjoyed it I'd like to see more.
0:23 I'm pretty sure that this particular Mustang "Cobra" isn't the best barometer for performance.
Still it is still a fun car that was shown alot of times
Yugo quality cobra. Lol
a barometer measures pressure. sooo in this case 'the pressure is on!' so to speak, thus making it appropriate.
Yeah I’m not sure a mustang 2 counts as a muscle car
The same goes for that first generation barracuda ....
it's not all about how fast a car accelerates, but how it makes you feel while doing it.
You sound like a fellow 86 driver lmao
9:58 The Koenigsegg Gemera’s 3 cylinder makes 600hp
My five cylinder volvo d3 doesn't but it makes 400 lb ft of torque out the box!
Love this video! Automotive technology has come a long way in performance, efficiency and safety. I've had a few fun older cars in my life, (AP1 S2000, Fiesta ST, Mazdaspeed6, MK1 Scirocco, Corrado G60), but my hybrid Wrangler would destroy all of them in a drag race. On a curvy back road I'd prefer any of my older cars but day-to-day use my Wrangler is fantastic.
