I have a pin locking line and the suction liner. The pin locking liner is my go to for every day use, it's definitely the most secure. You're right about the bruising on the bottom of your residual limb. You're also more susceptible to skin break downs with the pin locking liner. I have a major callous on the bottom of my limb from constant friction between the liner and the bottom of my socket. When this happens I transition to my suction liner and leg or I stay out of my prosthetic for several days. Great video and great information!! Many of us amputees have to figure out these things on our own. It's great to have a community where fellow amputees can come together and learn from each other's experiences.

They gotta develop one that gets the best of both. Then people dont have to choose the lesser evil anymore. That said, both suction and pin are already far above old school prosthetics that connected to your hip with suspender like straps.
Medicine is evolving, its exiting to think what will be possible in another couple decades

@AJJesko the liner is use is both pin lock and sealed, it's a pin lock liner that I pull a seal on the end, it's a hybrid! Therefore I have the best of both worlds 😊

I use the pin system for seven years now. I found the best way to line your sleeve to put in the socket, is to make a mark at the end of the sleeve aline with wording on your sleeve. I have found this to be 99% percent accurate.

That sounds like a great system! I know so many people who love their pin system so I try to let other know that just because I don't like it doesnt make it a bad liner!

Hi Annika, that was a clear explanation of the sockets and linersyou made there. I'm in the middle of writing some scientific stuff about liner-skin friction but I do not know anyone with prostheses. You made a clear insight what it involves to (have to) use prostheses. Good to see you can have an active life. Thank you.

Great content as always! I use elevated vacuum system. Most definitely feels secure and moves with me like it's my real 🦵 tried the pin lock system when I 1st became an amputee 11 years ago and it was painful! Due to my traumatic way i lost my leg and have lot of skin grafts my prosthesist suggested elevated vacuum. Lot less painful and skin breakdown. Hmmm the seal in looked pretty cool. I've never tried it, next time I get a new leg maybe I'll look into it.

Wow! You touched on so many different valid points. As a double bka, it's been a lot of trial and error. I agree that the vacuum suspension with the seal-in liner is the best, and I was put on a pin lock with my first prosthetics as well. And adding the oversleeves definitely gives me added confidence that they aren't going to fall off. I even drive with my prosthetic because I'm so confident in the secure nature of the seal ins with the oversleeves! I especially appreciate that you also even touched on your leggings. Because I'm a double BKA, crops work well for me, but I wondered what you would do with just one. Great video, keep up the great work!

A random unrelated question: Considering your career, and how you became an amputee, you seem to have adjusted rather quickly to becoming an amputee. I was wondering, did you know any one who was an amputee before you became one?
I met this woman once who told me we had gone to high school together. we had never met but she had seen me around, and she remembered being impressed with how well I got around.
When she lost her leg in a car accident at 19 she knew she would be okay because she knew I was okay. It blew my mind that I could have that effect on someone without ever even meeting them.
I was just wondering if you had something like that as well, if you had known, of seen an amputee doing okay so you knew when you lost your leg you'd be okay too.

@@WhyHelloShelby Like Anika, I like showing off that I'm an amputee, but I don't really like admitting I like doing it.
I think I like it because I like showing off what I can do.
I especially enjoy skiing on super steep slopes where people stop at the top to work up their courage to drop in.
I like to ski past, on one ski, and drop in without hesitation and ski down.
Once I saw a friend, ski instructor teaching a class. He was struggling to get the class to jump off a small corneous to build their confidence. I skied passed and jumped off, much higher than I intended (about 10 feet) but I stuck the landing, did a couple of hard check turns to bleed off my excess speed and got on the lift.
Later my friend told me his entire class was extremely impressed. He just said, "Yea, he's a lift operator here."
I figure it's the best way to show people that limb loss is not as limiting as people think.

Prior to the conversation of losing my leg, the only amputees I knew of were athletes. I knew Amy Purdy from Dancing with the Stars, and I did a report on Jessica Long in middle school (I don't even remember what the project was)
Once I started researching more about amputation, I found youtube videos and Facebook groups, and I was transferred to Wounded Warrior Battalion since I was active duty. It definitely made a huge difference mentally knowing a general idea of what to expect!
The first time someone told me that my videos helped them or inspired them made me feel amazing. I hadn't intended for it to happen, but I'm glad that's the reaction I got. I'm glad you also could experience that feeling ❤

Kind of curious how the suspension sleeve works over leggings since it’s purpose is to adhere to skin for suspension. I didn’t have to wear one until my last revision. My residual limb is now tiny and conical and I have no choice if I want my leg to stay on. I ride my bike without it because it does decrease knee range of motion. It took a lot of time and a period of resentment to get use to it, but now I can’t imagine not wearing it. The suspension sleeve is a also necessary for elevated vacuum.

I leave my prosthetic exposed when wearing stuff because I want to be able to access the quick release very fast... like when I was needing more room to fix water pipes in a tight space and my legs got in the way... one time not long ago. Lately been recovering from making my stump bleed due to over using it with a WillowWood ∆LPH∆ Pin Liner that is supposed to be cooler than most... actually just bull shit unless you freeze the thing and then put it on... going to try an endolite liner from Britain next with small holes for air to breathe... a pin liner. I have two prosthetics currently and all of this originated from being cut in half twice and then lost a leg... had organ transplants as well... and my organ donor was a young 19 year old lady whom was murdered and had been a ballet, lyrical and jazz dancer from age three and on her college dance team. Any way... interesting seeing the suspension liner and how you do it... I put one on top to keep from smashing my fingers between the prosthetic and my flesh like a nut cracker for my knuckles... and keeps me from slipping my fingers in when sitting Indian style and pushing on my amputated leg to push up off the floor and such things... any way wish you the best and thanks for the video.

Great video! Wondering what your thoughts are on combining pin liner with the rubber sealant? This is something my prosthetist and I have discussed recently and will give it a try.
The end of my stump is quite delicate so I can’t have only pin liner. I’ve been using a combination of silicon gel liner and pelite liner ever since my amputation but the gel liner has a seam that pulls against my skin, so if the fit is not 100% perfect the pull gets stronger, compromising my skin.

completely off topic, but why is the video looking 'reversed', like your LEFT leg is AWOL instead of your right? (I've seen a few of your other vids, and on Jo B's channel a few times, and your right shin/foot has always been the 'aftermarket' one - which is it? is my phone the problem?)
