It holds a little tool that is used to pull off the black plastic caps (the actual Abdeckkappen) that sit on the wheel bolts to make them look more fancy.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I'll forever prefer tactile buttons for a lot of those routine adjustments. Hate having to look down at a screen. Knobs and switches have always seemed faster and easier to me.

true, i love older MMI, with the knobs, they also made some nice clicky sounds!
I totally agreee, on my Tesla has it down to a point tho, that since certain dynamics don't change (i.e. the virtual button is always in the same place), and most things with a switch or knob can be done via steering wheel and voice, I seldom have to look away to get to them.
I actually like the Q8 over the Velar. Sadly, I can't afford it. Hello Rav4.

When you lock or unlock the European version of the Audi Q8, the back lights make a cool looking “dance”. I don’t know why the American version doesn’t make that.

I really like and appreciate people like Doug who are doing better videos. It may seem his video is just another video but in fact when he notices all those interesting quirks and facts, besides the features car buyers care the most, he really prepare his work before posting it. I like his professionalism and his passion about automobiles. He may have a team or just himself but he does do his work AND make things more interesting.
I am a driver and for the past months his videos have been pretty good company with me on my boring days. Of course, I don’t watch while I drive. :)

European Audi Q8 is very different car apparently. European version does have that little dance with light in the back, also the cup holders are hidden.

Maybe not fingerprints but dust that flies in the air. I mean does your phone look dirty all the time? If the screen is on then it shouldnt be too noticable.

That will get old VERY quick. Yes a nice microfiber cloth is handy (I use one on my car also). This vehicle has a large amount of space to be cleaned off.

You were so spot on with this review that Audi eventually accommodated with the SQ8. Looking forward to your review on that model. I drove the Velar and really like it, but a substantially smaller wheelbase. Options are so expensive as well. Almost double the base model price.

Audi does a fantastic job with voice recognition on the navigation as well. My dad has a 2018 a4 and I took it on a trip to Arizona from LA. I told the voice command my friend's entire address and it picked it up with 1 sentence.
Cali may be on fire but Doug and his cars hasnt burned yet so all is well

Being an Audi owner, I know what the little U-shaped tool is that you found in the rear cargo area. It is to remove the lug nut covers on the rims. The actual chrome lug nuts are covered in plastic cover overlays to keep the lugs clean and rust free.
Special thanks since Google didn't really help in this case
@@jameskaplan5428 No problem. There are actual plastic covers over the lug nuts to protect them from rusting and getting dirt in them. That little tool hugs around the lug nut cover and is able to easily pull them off.

"Abdeckkappen" means cover caps. I thought it looks like a small tool for something, not like any covers. The description on the bag would only make sense if the caps themselves would be stored in there. It's even weird if you understand german.

Short Term Memory and Long Term Memory 15:41 are not your odometers - that's your average speed and mpg. The trip odometers are at the bottom - both are displayed simultaneously and they do not change as you switch between short and long term.

Doug.. if you lock the door from the back seat, all you have to do to open it is pull on the interior door handle twice. This is standard across all VW group cars, I believe.

Really strange to be watching this in 2023 and listening to Doug marveling about all the tech in Audi's 2019 flagship car... almost all of which I also have in my 2018 A4
about those touch screens replacing traditional buttons....I have experience with different brand that when was really cold outside, when I got into the car, started the engine touch screen did not work so I wasnt able to adjust airflow etc.

I don't like that he just refuses to acknowledge that VAG cars unlock the back doors when you pull the handle once, and then open on the second pull. This has been the case forever.

FYI if you lock the door in the back seat and the car is in park just pull door handle Twice and the Door will unlock. #audi tricks.

Ah, yes, finally the footwell temperature. Something I have on my 1989 Chevrolet Camaro (it's called Bi-Level) but couldn't get it on an Audi till now.

Cool SUV but with all the cameras and screens it looks more like a security desk in a building.
It looks so crazy right?! Pretty sure that's how most cars are going to look in a few years. Once accustomed to the layout there is no denying that those touch screens are more efficient than clunky and ugly buttons everywhere. The size of the area where you need to tap to select or adjust whatever function you need is greatly increased too since only the functions you need are displayed depending on the section you are on making said function easier to tap especially on a bumpy road. I do prefer a knob only for the volume though. Nothing is more annoying than having to keep tapping a button or touch icon to lower the volume for a bit then keep tapping again to raise it back up also especially on a bumpy road. You can hold instead of tapping but that either takes too long or the hold scroll is too quick which I end up tapping away anyway to adjust it exactly where I want it. Even holding the volume down button or icon to mute on most systems is not as easy to use than doing a quick turn or press of the knob. You could also just grab the volume knob to adjust it without taking your eyes off the road to look for wherever the mute or volume down button/icon is. You can also rest your fingers on the knob to help stabilize them while adjusting the volume which is helpful because with the buttons/icons on a bumpy road your finger will be bobbing around as you try to hit that exact spot you need to tap which you will miss sometimes unless again, you take your eyes off the road for the few seconds it takes you to adjust the volume where you want it which is a few seconds too long.
Long story short; knob for the volume, touch screens for everything else.

Switches and knobs is quality, touch is cheap.
