the attention to detail of the references with their cameos here makes my heart so goddamn happy. the fact that rika's VA also voices one of the characters in this anime (that white-haired girl that i don't know the name of since i've never watched this series) so it made sense that she was the only character to speak, the fact that she used a chair as a weapon like how she beat satoko with it in Higurashi Rei (i thought she'd be using a rake like the Higurashi Daybreak PSP game but oh well), the fucking ohagi that was made for keiichi and that the old men thought a needle was inside one but it was actually tabasco sauce, the reference that rika is meant to love spicy food but somehow throws it, the violent sound of the ohagi hitting the wall and it oozing out the tabasco sauce was a very nice reference to the gore in the first two seasons, rika's iconic NIIPAA~ and of course the rest of our beloved Hinamiza Club Members looking absolutely amazing in this art style. they need to bring back more Higurashi or at least extend it. i miss it too much :(

The Tabasco is just a reference to the manga. It wasnt really explained in the anime, but there was never a sewing needle in the onigiri that keiichi ate, it was just Tabasco sauce. He just imagined the needle because of the Hinamizawa syndrome.
I couldn't help but smile and giggle at that little Rika who is as cute as ever 😊. This passage just takes the typical Higurashi's psychological horror devices we knew so well and just bends it into sheer parody, which makes the nostalgia even better in my book 😁. Also I *RRREAAALY* missed that adorable *Nipah!* of hers 😄. It sounds so damn fresh hearing it in 2018.
