Endless gratitude to Milestones: A Miles Davis Archive for ALL the wonderful work you put into presenting such extraordinary works of music and artists! This post is exceptional in not only the inspired performances by each and every member of this otherworldly ensemble of geniuses but the potent expansiveness of the hall's sound that enhances the power of the group without overkill of acoustics...BIG UPS!!!

I'm copying over my comment from the earlier upload of this concert. Thank you for the remaster. Again, this is my FAVORITE of the 2nd quintet bootlegs!
    -----
OK finally! To me -- this is the BEST outing of the 1967 tour ! I was dissapointed that the Columbia bootleg series of the '67 tour didn't include any from this set. I love Herbie and Tony's work here especially. The interplay between them in the solos for Round Midnight and Footprints is incredible. Totally swinging and lyrical.
OK 20:19 - 21:01 --right here. I love this part! Damn ! Tony's drumming is so REGAL and exciting!

Hi Ko-Fi, thanks for this nice remastering of the 1968 ORF broadcast. I own a copy of the full ORF broadcast (that in fact has few flaws) with introduction and comments by jazz journalist Mr. Walter R. Langer.
You mention the concert date given on the 1967 poster of the "Berliner Jazztage" as 1967, November 3rd. In fact this jazz festival had been the first I visited after moving to Berlin. As an 18-year old I became obsessed with this music, especially after the Miles Davis Quintet's performance. In some bad spelling I noted on the leporello program "Get me fiever !". Since I own an original of this leporello where I marked the concerts which I visited, I found that I had actually attended the Miles Davis concert on November 4, 1967. After the poster was printed the program had obviously been changed at short notice in the order of the concerts.
Unfortunately I don't know if its possible to attach a scan of that leporello here.
Warm greetings from Berlin to all Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter fans enjoying this channel.🎶🎷🎺🎶

This is not just music. This is something totally from another dimension. No wonder no one, or group has been able to replicate anything remotely this close in style and stride…😮

Tony & Wayne on this!!!! and Miles is on fire. the whole group is at peak dynamic range I think. they never got louder with this setup, as far as I've heard, yet there are whole periods of drum-less suspension of time and space.
Wayne's solo work is extraterrestrial, on Agitation he produces a galactic painting mixed with snare drum cracks that lead to a sort of sortie ending of anthemic proportions. Herbie is in abstract mode throughout (his Footprints solo is so fresh and modern sounding, masterful piano playing), as is Ron who lays down flooring for these solos with a matched strength to what Tony is playing.
Tony has begun evolving into his new, aggressive psychedelic jazz/rock drumming concept. mixed with an early afro-futurism, Tony launched a style that would blossom in his next venture (starting in late '68), The Tony Williams Lifetime, that influenced drummers all over the world. how many drummers today play like, and sound like, they've checked out some Tony?

Awesome post, thank you! I have been fascinated by the transformation of Davis' quintet from 1960, post Coltrane, to the second great quintet. The complete Seven Steps and Plugged Nickel sessions never get old but this is a real treat. Again thanks for all your posts, I really do enjoy them.

Somehow I missed this show from the 67 tour. Why didn’t it make it to the box? It’s easily just as good as Paris.

Taking rhythm, harmony & melody to the extreme within a form, a spontaneous combustion of musical ideas flowing like a river because of the players acute ability to listen. I can't stop listening to this band & it's been that way for almost 50 years now! I was saddened by the death of Wayne but happy that he lived a long life & shared so much with us & the Universe!!

Endless gratitude for allowing us Miles fans to hear another magic evening of this magnificent ensemble of intrepid explorers boldly venturing into the vast universe of sonic possibilities despite deploying familiar music masterpieces showcasing their creative genius in "re-purposing" them and making them brand new again, as is their want to do!!! That was a beautiful homage to the magnificent Wayne Shorter who recently transitioned to dimensional distant shores to delight other quadrants of the Multiverse but was so generous in leaving with us a bounty of his vast gifts for us to enjoy forever!!!

Je n arrête pas de m émerveiller du génie de Tony Williams et me demande si un drummer peut avoir des" trucs" , des automatismes pour masquer les vides , ou si sa fonction particulière de "coeur "l oblige plus que les autres à être toujours présent et intense....
