Nintendo may not have won Family Game, but Astro Bot did (and GOTY)...which in of itself is hugely hugely inspired by Nintendo, even Team Asobi made a point to reference them at the risk of making it awkward for their Playstation home team.
Astro Bot is a refresher from all the narrative single players from playstation. It feels like something Nintendo would have came up with if they made a game for PS5. It's a great alternative to Nintendo games, specifically 3D Mario.

What I find hilarious about modern Naughty Dog is that they're terrified of making their characters attractive or cool looking. Like she can't even have hair because she's tough, we have to see her shave it too. Like I get it but it's just so tiring. The hair thing legit upsets me because I practically grew up in a hair salon and I've seen so many cool, creative hairstyles and every time I see bald or other basic hairstyles like a bun I just shake my head and say "you couldn't think of anything else? Or did you not want to animate hair moving?". They went all out on the retro future tech but still crave photo real human actors. They totally knew too, they immediately disabled comments on the trailer, even Concord kept the comments up longer
Yeah... I am hoping for at least a little customization or something to offset that. But this is Naughty Dog so you know there's going to be Sweet Baby BS in your face all through the thing. I just hope they make the awesome gameplay moments outshine the eye roll moments enough to make it worth it.

There was definitely a feeling at this year's game awards that has been missing. The atmosphere was great and you could feel the buzz in the air. Awesome show!
No recognition for the masterpiece that is Silent Hill 2 Remake was criminal. I know they can't give every game an award but Sound Design and Graphics should've definitely went to Bloober Team, if not GOTY. Lame.
Dude, Sega announcing and showing off the next Virtua Fighter game makes this year the best award show I’ve seen. It’s literally been like 16+ years or longer since there has been a brand new Virtua Fighter and not just an update to a previous version. What they showed was truely next generation and looks so far ahead of what’s currently out.
Onimusha, Ninja Gaiden, and Virtua Fighter were the biggest announcements for me. Turok looks decent (never played original) and although I don’t like RGG Project Century looks interesting.
I hope Astro Bot's success gives Sony the idea to take some chances on games that are less cinematic and more fun. I enjoy the cinematic stuff but I would really like to have some variety on my PS5.

I understand that but Nintendo is doing itself a disservice with this.
@narcisopedro3474 agreed. In a sea if narrative and live service games, it was cool to see a first party title Excel at being just a video game.
@@narcisopedro3474 Nintendo typically innovates with their platformer games. Astro Bot doesn't innovate, it only copies other Nintendo games (or pay homage to if you want a less cynical take)
@@ParadoxalDream WTF...Nintendo doesn't innovate shit, they haven't been innovative since SNES. Nintendo 2024s biggest problem is ALL of their games are piss easy, don't innovate for shit anymore, they ride trends.
Nintendo will never win a GOTY but they won through AstroBot.
I unapologetically enjoy infinity nikki ... i know I'm not supposed to but the big expansive world.
The attention to detail and story the fun minigames, you can just stumble upon it's been a long time since i've been this happy and excited to explore a game world
You can enjoy anything bro
I've never even heard of this.
Aw hell naw you better not be enjoying
Thanks for your dedication. I wasn't able to watch so very thankful for you succinctly covering all of this stuff. Very hyped for for the "built-for-coop" for Elden Ring. I think it goes to show that mods are acknowledged and their usage is incorporated by Devs.
It’s probably just a second screen shot button so both players can screen shot when you are using splint joycons which is an issue i have with the og
_"terrified"_
It was a really good show. An A for the awards show format, I feel he really is honing in on what this show is. I really appreciated the industry struggle acknowledgements! I give it a B for content for me without much or a Nintendo presence. Good show Jeff!
As soon as I saw the first red floating orb I screamed "Onimusha!"
Sadly, they showed very little that I actually cared about, and some of what looked interesting didn't really have gameplay.
Great video! Thank you for all of your work. I watch every morning at work.
Okami is one of my favorite games and I've given up on ever seeing it again. That alone makes the Game Awards amazing for me
Imagine silksong, hl3, and bloodborne being in one presentation.
Unless it’s already been mentioned Screamer was an old racing game from the 90s so this looks to be a new entry.
Didn't expect Concord 2 so soon
Which one? I see about 5 Concords every event
Concord not getting game of the year was tragic 😢
@@Sir_Robin_of_Camelotlast one.
Lame.
This was one of the best shows on years if ever, honestly.
Thanks Jon, You just saved me a lot of time.
Onimusha, Ninja Gaiden, and Virtua Fighter were the biggest announcements for me. Turok looks decent (never played original) and although I don’t like RGG Project Century looks interesting.
VF really put the Tekken announcement to shame lol. Hopefully it's not years away.
That game awards was actually really good. Lots of hype! Also the Muppets were the best part lmao
With the announcement of Okami 2, I'd like to formally apologize to Geoff, I wasn't familiar your game.
I feel that’s the best show I’ve seen in a long time. It actually felt like a celebration of games.
The Game Awards was very solid! Shadow Labyrinth, Ninja Gaiden, Split Fiction and Virtua Fighter look awesome! Plus TGA Orchestra killed it as always!
Just happy to see Omnimusha and Virtua fighter getting new stuff again
I waited 8 years for The Last Guardian to release. so I expect we will not see that new Fumito Ueda game before 2030
Must be tuff getting a silicon skin to be so form fitting on the Switch2, especially the shoulder bumpers.
"Screamer" is a reboot of a 1990's racing series.
So incredibly hyped for Onimusha!
Crimson Desert looked really interesting. Definitely keeping an eye on that one
I hope Astro Bot's success gives Sony the idea to take some chances on games that are less cinematic and more fun. I enjoy the cinematic stuff but I would really like to have some variety on my PS5.
For the intergalactic, I believe Jeff said it was an in engine trailer. Which was what impressed me the most.
I was too caught off guard by the terrible character design to notice the other stuff
It looked great and the style is clean. And OST by Trent and Atticus? 🔥
LOL I never expected to get comment of the day. Thank you so much, Spawn Wave!
Congrats to Astro Bot on the GOTY win. Absolutely deserved! Gotta check out the first Okami game now too.
The Vitura Fighter event was at midnight btw right after the game awards
Extremely happy that Astro Bot won GOTY. Also happy that Balatro received a ton of awards too.
Jeff Key Lee cooked with this show! A for me
I wasn’t able to watch the awards live this year, so I appreciate this overview! It looks like it was way better than last year. I’m happy Astro took the win, and I’m very excited for Okami!
The trailers arent really matching up with your announcements, its making it confusing in certain parts
Astro Bot is a complete joy to play. I loved every single second of it. I thought Wukong was going to get GOTY for sure, but this makes sense. Good for Team Asobi. PlayStation has a strong mascot now.
Screamer was originally a PC CD-ROM racing game from 1996 with a focus on realistic graphics and racing mechanics. I never finished it but I loved the OST.
I have no idea if this Screamer has anything to do with the old game.
The C button potentially being a CAST button is a genius theory!
this was the show of forgotten IPs coming back: onimusha, okami, VF, Turok , ninja gaiden, etc.
I appreciate Okami 2 but I wouldn't mind a new Megaman Legends
wondering if Mega Man is going thru a bit of an identity crisis as of late. Feel like we’re due for a new one pretty soon
Also I hope the Okami sequel makes we get Viewtiful Joe 3 lol
The website for nightreign describes it like it will be procedurally generated. So I’m not expected the story or world people that had made soulsborne soulsborne. Also likely lots of resuse of assets
The Muppets brought some much needed levity, especially poking fun of the length of the show and broke things up well
So the Switch 2 is nearly identical in design to the current Switch. This is what interests people? I just hope the controls don't break all the time.
We just don't want Nintendo to "re-invent" just do what worked. Nintendo ALWAYS tries to "innovate." Its not bad to innovate, but it sometimes breaks immersion. Like GameCube, or Wii U. I like GameCube, but that controller takes away from a lot.
@@RangerZero47it will be 1080p 60fps IF that
Wasn't expecting so much back lash at Astro Bot, a amazing game that deserved to win.
seems like Capcom is delaying RE9. what a bummer
disappointing not to see it but probably a good thing they take their time on it. I loved 7 and 8 for different reasons & have high hopes for 9!
@@steven-i6j i’m glad that Sony has exclusivity to the next resident evil game and I think resident evil belongs on PlayStation as it started on PlayStation.
Even fromsoft is not immune to milking a cash cow apparently
Looks like Sony bought them already and we just don't know about it.
What the hell are you talking about? Are you expecting them to make bigass RPG every single year?
Dude they’ve been one trick pony for over a decade. 😂 Design wise they’re creatively bankrupt. Just look at what they did to AC. 😒
@@OtakuUnderground92 you're not wrong but they've always done what they wanted. AC never sold well but they did it anyway. Now it looks they've just become an elden Ring studio
18:11 maybe they're having a throw back to the GameCube controller and that "C" button is the new action / jump button. 😂
I mean astrobot is an amazing game it's why it won so many awards. We just need to see more games like that or with that level of creativity anyways
Onimusha coming back was the best part for me.
Forget Onimusha the best part for me was AstroBot winning GOTY.
@Adamtendo_player_1 that was awesome.
All the big game titles announced were for every system except the Switch.
That's because Nintendo and third parties are shifting over to the Switch 2, and they're not announcing anything yet.
Switch is an overclocked Xbox 360. Even smartphones are more powerful. Its saving grace is the Japanese games that don't make use of graphical horsepower otherwise you would only be seeing indies and first party.
I understand that but Nintendo is doing itself a disservice with this. After watching all the major titles lack the Nintendo logo you are not really giving your consumers a reason to purchase your next console. Every game had a steam logo and with the rise in the handheld pc market it’s becoming more and more appealing. Let’s see if when they announce the next system these titles also announce a Switch 2 version available at launch.
@@crg0284I agree , right now the Nintendo line up both third and first party feels empty
Nintendo and partners cookin behind the scenes be patient
Game announcements aside, the pacing and feeling of the show was so much better than last year. Everyone felt relevant to video games and there wasn't anyone who was just there to be a celebrity, well I guess there was Harrison Ford, but still.
During the pre-show we got a new 2D Ninja Gaiden! Looks like it was inspired by The Messenger because it's a metroidvania!
The Messenger was inspired by the NES Ninja Gaiden games. So, this new Ninja Gaiden game is going back to those old NES games.
Also did we get anything on Wolverine or Blade? Nothing, also it appears that Death stranding 2 and Sinking City 2 might be slight delayed!
Awesome Halflife 3 AND Super Switch announcements. Very streamlined show. Fun and engaging atmosphere all around!!!
Jeff’s game of the year was honestly a toss up between Astro Bot and Black Myth. But it’s really cool to see a really small, tech demo studio like Asobi win.
I think the trailer for Intergalactic wasn't CGI. I think those are in-game cut scenes using the game engine. I think what we saw in the trailer will be in the game.
Mafia & Sonic were definitely the highlights for me
But what even is that Sonic racing thing. Like really, again Sega?
9:49 I wonder if screamer is a remake of the 1995 pc title of the same name. It was also a racer
17:23 You haven't seen SwitchUp's video yet then 😅
Thanks for summarizing the show! Ninja Gaiden looks great. Did you mention there will be a new mech game?!??! I'm in!
